HT5244 Flashback Removal Tool and Software update is not working!

My software is up to date but the virus is still detected on my computer, what should I do? The  flashfake removal tool from Kapersky(I may have spelled it wrong) detects a virus but when I click on it to remove it, nothing happens.

  • Widgets, Safari, Software Update -- All not working since I got Comcast

My Dashboard, Safari and Software Update have not worked since I got Comcast internet. I'm pretty sure their installer screwed up something, but I don't know how to undo it. Firefox, Adium, Mail and other internet applications all work great.
I tried to fix the Software Updater problem a while ago and was able to get it to see what is available (by adding swquery.apple.com to the sites that bypass proxy settings), but it still refuses to download anything.
I can't help but think there's one thing that's causing all this trouble. Any thoughts?

You can have up to 5 computers authorized at one time with iTunes. There's no reason to deauthorize until you want to go over the limit. You can do this once a year. Do a clean install of the OS on the mac you are selling.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

    Snow Leopard DVD:
You can get it only by phone now from Apple.
In the US, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask for a sales assistant. Last quoted price was $19.99 for the single-user and $29.99 for the family licence.
For other countries, check here; http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Don't forget to ask for Sales; the tech support guys can't help.
When you've installed SL it will be 10.6.3. You need to update that to 10.6.8 with the combo installer from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 - that gives you access to the Mac App store.
Lion is only available by phone also - same number and they'll give you a download code to use in the Mac App Store.
If you're going to Mountain Lion you don't need to install Lion first - you can do it straight from Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    Specifications;
    Snow Leopard 10.6.x:
    Lion 10.7.x;
    Mountain Lion 10.8.x:

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all media and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • IChat won't connect and Software Update will not run.

    Hi, all,
Sorry if something like this has already come up, and I apologise if this is the incorrect forum to post this in. I searched and didn't see anything identical to my issue (I didn't search very hard, but I did search), so I figured posting a topic might be the best way to go. I know this is two problems, but I decided to post it in the iChat forum in case the two were related.
I bought this computer and received it yesterday. It's a 15 inch MacBook Pro, i5, 10.6.4. It worked fine this morning, software update ran, ichat worked fine.
Now, when I try to connect to iChat, it takes a good ten minutes to try to connect, and then it sends me an error that says "You have been disconnected from iChat services. An internal error occurred that disconnected you from all iChat services. To resume using iChat, log in again to your instant messaging account." So, I quit iChat, and restarted it, but now it won't even show me my buddy list saying "connecting....". It just starts and sits there, and all the options are greyed out. I tried going into the security settings and changing the port to 443, but that's greyed out, too.
So I thought I would try to run software update, and software update opens, but it doesn't ... go. It shows the little blue bar, and it's not frozen, but it doesn't advance at all, and it never gives me the option to go to the "install updates" screen because it doesn't check. I went into my network settings to check my connection, and I'm definitely connected to the internet (I mean, I'm typing this ON the MacBook Pro right now), but the panel says I'm not. I can hit "cancel" and quit software update.
I already reinstalled the OS and the update to 10.6.4, and it's still the same issue.
Help, anyone? This computer is brand new and I really don't want to have to erase and reinstall.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
On the changing the port front stop off on the Account Info tab on the way a deselect "Use this Account" to take it Off Line. (you can get half way states)
You should then find the port 5190 is dark text so it can be edited.
You should press the Enter key to "Set" the port change (this is different to earlier versions of iChat)
Also try it with the SSL option disabled.
If this is an AIM Login (AIM or Apple Name) their SSL server is more prone to "Falling over". iChat should default to using an Non SSL Login on a reconnection front it can be subject to a time frame issue.
Next check the Mac Firewall (System Preferences > Security > Firewall tab)
If this is On in Snow Leopard you have to go to the Advanced Button and Allow Signed Apps and Add iChat to the list.
I favour the last suggestion as this may also block Software Update (Although I nm not sure how you got to 10.6.4 although it is a separate Download you can get).
I would also check you have DNS servers listed in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab

Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line "Binary Images for iChat"

  • IPOD Software Updater- "Restore" not working

The IPOD software updater will not allow me to restore my Nano.
Both the update and restore buttons are not "active". The updater prompts me to plug in my Nano and automatically attempts to update my Nano which isn't necessary since there's no new update.
This caused the "Do not disconnect" message to appear for a long time until I turned it off.
Any thoughts, suggestions...would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks-

Fixed! I had the same issue and have fixed it... for now!
Let me go into the details...
My wife and I just received our new Nanos. Her's has been exhibiting strange behaviour so I have tried to restore.
On her latop, the latest iPod Updater did not at first 'see' the Nano whereas on my laptop, it sees the Nano and starts to restore then stops when the progress bar gets to the 'd' of "iPod". I have had to force quit and try again and each time it gets fo far and stops.
By putting the Nano into Disk Mode, I can get my wife's laptop to "see" the Nano and, once again, it stalled at exactly the same spot. I force quit the update and tried and again... and it worked this time!
The only difference this time was that I was holding the Nano in my hand. I can see no reason why this would be relevant unless the connector had been ever so slighty lose, though this is a long shot.
So, I am back to having 2 functioning Nanos... for now!
    Best Wishes
    Mark Townsend

  • Software update notification not working

    Hello
I'm having issue with the software update notification not informing me of updates to downloaded apps. I've open the software app button but no notices on the bottom. The only way I can update is to go to HP app site and press update button on app page. I'm still unable to backup manually or automatically. The Touchpad has never been backed up. I checked with HP two weeks ago and they confirmed that backup has never been done. I've tried to erase backup but error window says I have no internet connection and cannot not erase backup on profile. HP say they are checking on solution but no reply since contact. Are the issues related? Touchpad 32gb Wifi believing it has no Internet connection so unable to backup and unable to check if app updates are available. This is my second Touchpad (first one had cracks on speakers and headphone jack returned to Amazon) and the first one had no issues with backup or software notification. I've done restarts and complete reboots. Issue remains.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Have you installed any "homebrew" apps? This could be causing an issue.
I have checked you HP webOS account and see that you have never backed up to the account with you current Touchpad. I see your original device was backing up okay as you have stated.
You can download and run HP webOS doctor for this device. This can be downloaded from http://ws.hpwebos.com/webosdoctor/sorry.htm, enter you device serial number. You may want to create a new HP webOS account to try after the ROM reload. If this works alright then try logging into your original account again. You may be able to restore your data again.

  • Installer & software update all not working now along with safari & itunes

    hi all
I've posted this under the safari beta for mac area (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1148867&tstart=0) as well but as it relates to several issues, i wanted to put it here and see if anyone here at any ideas.
yesterday i installed the new version of itunes and safari 3 beta. as i was half way through the safari installation i lost my wireless connection and had to then force quit the process. since then, my itunes, safari and software update and installer programs are not working.
i've tried downloading previous versions of everything but when i go to install them the installer appears and then dissapears just as quickly. on top of that when i click on itunes from the dock, it bounces like it is about to load up and then stops and doesn't. finally, when i go to click on software update from System Preferences, I get an error message "Preferences Error, Could not load Software Update".
this includes my trying to download and install the mac osx 10.4.10 combined update to 'fix' everything but as mentioned above the installer appears for a second and then dissapears again without doing anything.
over to you all for any and all help.
    thanks in advance

Any help would be greatly appreciated because whilst i am getting by using firefox, my little girls songs are on itunes and i need to get into them (anyone with kids will understand my pain).
    thanks

If you downloaded the update from the phone, and using an older version of iTunes, yes that should do it.

  • Update to 10.4.4 now software update does not work

Updated using the standalone installer and now Software Update will not launch, although I can run it from the Preference pane. Tried repair permissions. Ran cron scripts. Ran the combo update. Still no luck. Any ideas. Thanks.

Software Update will not launch, although I can run it from the Preference pane.
Confusing because they contradict each other. Where are you trying in the failed instance? From the About this Mac menu item? Please be a bit more specific. If my assumption is correct, then create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if it works there. Report back.

I don.t understand what happened I'll try some setting later but if someone have any idea pls help me. Thnx! It's the very first time I have an issue with my mac and I feel terible!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Safari won't open URLs and Software Update does not cnnect

OK. I'm back in the hope that I can get some help from this forum or I can get steered to the appropriate forum.
This morning I went to the local library and connected to the internet directly using airport to their WAN. So I now know my problem is independent of the weird dial up arrangement I have at home.
Safari still does not open the sites. It gives a message "Cannot open page "x" because it cannot connect to server "X""
When I open Firefox all my sites are working normally. (I also downloaded and installed Firefox 3 this morning)
I have reset Safari but that does not help.
I have even downloaded the latest greatest version of safari (the beta 4) but it exhibits the same problems
When I invoke Software Update it claims I am not connected to the internet. Does this depend on Safari? Is there a preference i can change to make it work through Firefox
When I invoke internet connect diagnostics it says my internet connection is working normally.

    Thank you. Problem solved.
Both safari and S/w Update now working again.
I have no idea how the proxy got set. (I don't remember doing it!!!)
    Thanks again, Steve

  • Installer.app and software update don't work anymore

    hi there,
i just repaired my hd using diskwarrior, which was succesful. now i tried to get some updates installed, but just at the start of the process for every .pkg file i tried, installer says there was a problem and that i have to try again. of course, trying again doesn't help.
that problem, which also includes software update in the very same way, already existed before i fixed my drive with diskwarrior. it was the initial reason i ran a disk repair.
any ideas, especially any that don't involve reinstalling os x?
before, the system had been running fine for several years.
    thanx,
    ulrich christian

At this point Ulrich I'm back from vacation. Did you do anything else?

This was the last Java update for Leopard:

J2SE 1.4.2 is no longer being updated to fix bugs or security issues and remains disabled by default in this update. Support for out-of-process Java applets on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been removed with this update.

  • Software Update does not work...

When I open Software Update the window opens, and then the progression bar begins to fill... but then nothing. The bar fills about an inch. Yesterday I even left the house for about four or five hours, and when I got home it was the same. My last update was in December '08... 10.5.6
My internet connection is fine... I've run Disk Utility and repaired permissions... I can't think of anything else to do.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?

    Try removing these items:
    /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
/Home/Library/Preferences/ByHosr/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.xxx.plist (where 'xxx' is a hex number)
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    Restart your computer.
