HT5262 how to restore my iPad from an old backup?

My iPad broke but it was backed up.
I eventually got a replacement iPad, but when I click on the Restore button, it does not find my backup, only the sync I performed on the new iPad.
I know the backup is there since I can see the folder and it is not empty:
C:\Users\bitola88\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Please help!

Again, iTunes only keeps one normal backup, per device. Any other backups listed are backups created from restore points. These are time/date stamped & are not overwritten.

    Hi,
What is the table you want to restore?
Using export/import is supported with Oracle Apps database (for full database exp/imp, and certain schemas like custom ones). For the Apps schema, I believe it is not supported due to object dependencies and integrity constraints.

  • How to restore an iPhone from a previous backup using iTunes

Hi all, I don't have a question - but merely a story of the solution I found to restore a previous backup from my wife's iPhone 5c that had some problems. Long story short, something got jammed with her Exchange email account settings and she lost all of her contacts and emails. Everything was fine on her work server (accessing the account using Outlook or the web app worked just fine). For whatever reason, this would not be fixed by deleting and recreating the Exchange account on the iPhone for some reason.
First let me say that this would never have worked if I didn't have a recent, intentional, manual backup of her phone. Moral of the story: plug your phone in to your computer and back up regularly. However, the trouble always seems to arise (much like it did in this case): with an automatic backup overwriting a good file with bad data.
My last known good backup was on Feb 17th. After that date, something went wrong on the phone. When I connected it to the computer in an effort to restore it from that backup, I was befuddled by the fact that the first thing iTunes does is immediately back up the phone, which automatically overwrites the 'Latest Backup' with today's date (the 20th). I tried restoring the backup thinking to myself that iTunes would fish out the second most recent, but when it was finished I got a restored version of the phone that was broken, not the working copy from the 17th.
Before starting this process it's important to know what on which date your last good backup completed.
I should note that in my study I learned that there is a fundamental difference between backing up and syncing. The former handles all the settings and iOS stuff, the latter is all about apps and music (and stuff). This knowledge proved useful later.
I'm using an iMac with OSX Yosemite 10.10.2, iTunes 12.1.0.50, and a USB backup drive filled daily, courtesy of Time Machine.
    The process looked like this:
    1. Unplug the phone, double tap the home button and quit all the apps, and turn it off. It's probably not necessary to shut it down entirely, but that's what OCD does - it makes you do irrational things.
    2. Quit all the computer's programs, and restart. Again, the wonder of OCD.
    3. Once restarted, don't open iTunes. Mouse up to the 'Go' menu in the Finder top bar. Click on 'Go'. Hold down the 'Option' key and you'll notice the 'Library' submenu magically appears. Click 'Library'.
    4. A Finder > Library window will open. Double click on 'Application Support'. Double click on 'MobileSync'. You should be staring at a Finder window with a folder called 'Backup'. Don't double click it.
    5. From here, launch Time Machine from the Dock or from Mission Control. Ooh and aaahh as the Finder window magically animates itself into file-folder order.
    6. Scan back in time to the date after your last good backup. Click 'Restore'. It will ask you if you want to keep or overwrite the 'Backup' folder. I overwrote mine. It was a 25GB folder, so the Time Machine recovery took a while.
    7. While the recovery was going on, I learned of a way (here) to use the Terminal application (inside Mission Control > Other) to disable the automatic backup function in iTunes. For sake of not mis-copying the Terminal commands and giving you broken code, I suggest you refer to that page - plus, you should give them kudos and share their work because frankly, I'm not smart enough to have written it. Simply copy in the 'disable' command in to Terminal, wait a moment, and a new Terminal command line will pop-up. That means it's done and good. I thought I might get some fireworks, but alas.
    8. With the backups turned off, the phone unplugged, and the Time Machine restore complete, I quit Time Machine and launched iTunes.
    9. I plugged in the phone. It booted up. It then synced, but did not backup (which was perfect). The 'Latest Backup' field thankfully read February 17th. Joy. I clicked 'Restore Backup...' and the process began. The phone successfully recovered and I was elated.
    10. Now recovered and fully functional again (contacts and mail both intact), I again unplugged the phone and then quit iTunes. I returned to the Terminal application, and punched in the other code that causes the automatic backup to resume. I relaunched iTunes, plugged in a different iPhone (to test objectively), and it both synced and backed up. Huzzah.
To be honest, I won't be following this thread nor replying to questions if any arise. I just thought I should share the solution and thank all of the people who posted stuff along the way that helped me out of a jam. Thank You.

    Hi austinflorida,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand you want to restore your iOS backups to the new iTunes installation.  Take a look at the information below on how you can accomplish this.
If you backed your iOS device up to iTunes, back up your devices on the new computer or manually transfer the backups from your old computer. The backups belong in:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and then choose Run. Type %appdata%and click OK.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start, and then in the search bar type %appdata% and press the Return key.
    Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, move the cursor to the top-right, click on the magnifying glass charm, type %appdata% and press the Return key.

  • Can I restore my iPad from a sync/backup that was made on a different computer but copied to my current one?

I regularly sync my iPad with my mac by plugging it in with the USB cable and hitting the "Sync" button in iTunes. Until recently, I had a computer with Leopard that just died. Luckily I had a backup of everything, including my iTunes folder, on an external hard drive. When I plug my iPad into my new computer (which has Lion), I can see all my apps and my preferences regarding what to sync have been saved.
Unfortunately, one of my apps, Papers, had a lot of information on it that was lost recently and I'd like to restore that information if possible. The Papers support people told me that it should be stored in my iPad backup, so if I restore it from a backup I should get that data back. But on iTunes is says that the last backup on this computer is "unknown". I don't know if that means there is no backup, or if it just doesn't know the date because it was copied from a different computer. Regardless, it makes me nervous to hit restore when I don't know if I have a backup or not.
    My questions are:
    1) Can I access a backup of my iPad on my new computer?
    2) If so, would I just hit "Restore" and it will give me the option of restoring from the backup that was there?
I want to make sure if I restore my iPad I won't lose anything accidentally!
    Thank you!

I just wanted to update this chain since I was able to solve the problem I had. My iPad backups were on a time machine backup, but not on my new computer. In my most recent time machine backup I navigated to:
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and took the most recent folder from there. I copied that folder into the corresponding directory on my new machine, and then when I opened iTunes and plugged in my iPad it was there and I was able to restore it!
Note that if you have multiple devices, you can open that folder in the Backup directory and find the info.plist file, and near the top it will say the name of the device, so I was able to tell which was my iPad backup and which was my iPhone backup.
    Problem solved!

  • I restore my iPhone from an old Backup in iTunes.  The Contacts get overwritten by those in iCloud immediately.  How do I prevent this and keep my old contacts?

I restore an old Backup from iTunes to my iPhone 4.  The contacts are immediately overwritten by those in iCloud.  How do I prevent iCloud contact list over writing the contact list restored from the iTunes Backup?

Yes you can erase the drive and reinstall OS 10.6 from the original disk.
    1. Put the disk in and restart the computer while holding the C key down. (The letter C.)
    2. When the computer boots you will see the beginning of the OS installation, and have to select a language.
    3. On the next screen there is a menu bar. Click Utilities on the menu bar and select Disk Utility.
    4. When DU is running, select the hard drive in the left hand column, format should be Mac OS extended journaled, then click Erase.
    5. When that task is done, quit DU and proceed with the installation. It will take some time.
    6. The computer will restart after the installation is completed and show you an awful noisy welcoming screen.
Then you have to enter information about yourself.
    7. Run Software update to get to OS 10.6.8.
Now you can go to the App store and find your previous purchases. You will not have to pay for them again. And you do not have install them one at a time. If for example you want 10.9, and your computer can handle it, go directly to 10.9.1 from 10.6.8.

  • How to restore individual files from a TM backup after a clean install?

    Hi to all,
my teenage daughter's Mac Mini (running OSX 10.8) was cluttered with all sorts of stuff, even unwanted and inappropriate popup windows when using Safari, and more. So I made a final TM backup. Then I did a clean install of Mavericks.
Now, I wanted to bring back individual files and folders from that TM backup, BUT...
going to Migration Assistant, I realized that it would overwrite the clean install and bring back the clutter. This is no option.
going to TM, I realized I wasn't able to select any of the snapshots from the timeline
going to the external drive containing the TM backup with Finder, all folders within her "old" user.folder showed a small red stop-sign, which I learned is an issue with permissions. I wasn't able to restore manually.
    What to do now?
I know I could restore the cluttered state and copy folders and files manually to an external drive, make another clean install of Mavericks, then copy manually from that external drive. This seems a lot of time and work to me.
    Is there an easier way?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michi

  • How can I restore my iPad from an encrypted backup if I didn't put a password on it?

I went to back up my iPad two days ago just as I have several times prior. Low and behold, it asks me for a password of which I have no knowledge of EVER putting one in. So I called Apple support. The "genius" (and I use that word loosely) told me I had to reset my ipad as a "new" ipad in iTunes, then use an older backup to restore my data. All went fine until the iPad restarted and immediately began doing a backup to the iCloud. I proceed to try to restore my data. Only 1 older backup shows up in the list, which is the one I did right before resetting the iPad, BUT, it is encrypted. So now I have an ipad that USED to have a years worth of appointments and schedule that is now empty. I went to the local Apple store and the "Genius" there skated around the issue for an hour because he didn't have a clue how to get my calendar restored. He finally, as he was wrapping up, gave me the web address to the Expresslane.apple.com folks and told me that they would help me. I followed the links that he told me to and right before It said someone would call me, They asked for $19.99 first, even though the local genius told me there would be no charge since he was referring me to them. This is my first and last Apple product as I will be looking for a more reliable substitute.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
