HT5266 The screen issue. I do have a retina macbook pro mid 2013.

The screen seems to be decolonizing, you can see it at the bottom corners, while background is black. I mean those places are getting whiter (brighter) that all the rest screen. And it seems to be extending. What could you advice?

This is a picture of the actual issue with retina screen in my case.

Take it to an Apple Store or other service provider for testing.

I have a 15' Macbook Pro, mid 2010 running Mavericks. I want to upgrade the hardware by increasing the RAM to 8GB and replacing the HD for a SDD one. What would be the best way to install mavericks on the new HD? I have the original OS X CD.
From what I read, I have 2 choices: 1. to install OSX and then upgrade to Mavericks, but I'm not sure if this would be possible (to upgrade directly from OSX to Mavericks); and 2. to use a software called Super Duper.
I wouldn't like to have to use a third party software to do this, so the question is: is there a better way to install directly the Mavericks not having to use a third party software?

Install the new drive in the computer.
Install the old drive in an external USB or Firewire enclosure.
Boot the computer from the Recovery HD on the external drive.
Use Disk Utility to partition and format the new internal drive.
Clone your external drive to the internal drive.
How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the Recovery HD on the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the Recovery HD then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
      1. Open Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of
the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive
is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the
Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from
the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended
(Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to
GUID  then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and
wait until the process has completed.
      4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the
drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main
          window.
      5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the
Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to
          return to the Erase window.
      6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several
hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
      1. Using Disk Utility still opened.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • Retina Macbook Pro (late 2013) screen blinking

I recently got a Retina Macbook Pro (late 2013), and the screen has been spontaneously blinking. It's exceptionally distracting, and I've been unable to correlate it to any running program. Has anyone else had this issue?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your MacBook is in warranty, so take it to an Apple Store or reseller to get the MacBook repaired or replaced free of charge. It looks like a hardware issue, so it's better to do this

  • HT1539 How do I redeem my Digital Copy if I have a Retina Macbook Pro with no DVD drive?  Apple should have fixed this by now!

I have a Retina Macbook Pro, but iTunes is asking me to insert a disc.  Well, I can't.  Why has Apple not fixed this.  I want to enter my code and get my movie.

I know that this isn't a real solution for your computer, but the digital copy is tied to your Apple ID. So if you have another Mac, you can redeem it on that Mac, then download the movie to your Retina MBP (Movies in the Cloud FTW).
If you don't own another Mac yourself, find a friend's computer, log out of his iTunes (or make a new user account), log into your Apple ID within iTunes, Authorize iTunes, then insert the DVD and redeem it. I redeemed Skyfall & Frankenweenie from an iMac at work just to see if it works, which it does. Heck, I don't think they even need a Mac, a PC running iTunes should work!

  • My non retina macbook pro mid 2012 will read the display its connected to but does not display anything at all

    Hi there,
I have a macbook pro mid 2012 non retina display and i tried using an external display for it. I hooked it up and the screen blacked out and turned back on like normal and the computer itself was reading that the display was there. The only problem is that on the display itself there is no image of the macbook being displayed. im using a thunderbolt to vga connector and all the connection check out the only problem is the display. the display works on my other macbook that i have just fine i dont understand why it wouldnt work on this new one. Keep in mind i have had this computer for only 5 days.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi, cubingcouple.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your MacBook is not working with your external display. display shows a blank screen.  Here is the best troubleshooting resource to go through when experiencing these symptoms.

  • Mavericks seems to have killed my MacBook Pro (mid 1010)

My MacBook Pro (mid 2010) had been working normally. I just installed mavericks. Now the computer won't start. After the apple icon shows up, part of the screen suddenly becomes black and about 20 lines of code appear. The computer then restarts, and a window appears stating that "The computer has restarted because of a problem" with no further information. Then the cycle continues, with the operating system never starting up.
Obviously I wish I had never installed mavericks. Does anyone know how I might get machine running normally again?

I understand your reasoning;however, this is what Apple has apparently decided, so there isn't anything we can do about it. When Lion first was introduced, you were able to download the installer and then save a copy of it somewhere. This is no longer possible now with the new Macs/new OS - when you invoke recovery and download the OS, there is no way to save that installer as the download/install sequence is one process now and there is no way to save the installer as it deletes itself after the install.
Aside from that issue, new Macs have not been able to use the app store or software update version on thei Macs because of their special builds until one or two updates later when the updates "caught up" with the new Mac's OS build version.
As you can see here, a Mac might have come with different OS versions as well as different builds of the same version:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159
Personally, I've decided to keep a "fresh install" bootable clone as an emergency measure (which I do not update purposely so it remains "factory fresh") in addition to my regular clones which are updated regularly. That eliminates the need for a download in order to reinstall.

  • I have a new MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and it goes into deep sleep when I disconnect if from AC power.

I have a new 13" MacBook Pro mid 2012 and it goes into deep sleep when it is disconnected from AC power.  I have to press the power button to wake it up.  Is this a known issue or is there something wrong with the MacBook Pro?

There are a few threads about this around. Its a known issue for 2012 non retina users, not sure about Apple. It should not work this way and Apple has not put out an update to fix it yet. Check out these threads for some workarounds. I think I saw if you reinstall and don't update one of the updates you get normal functionality back. Otherwise there are some terminal changes you can make to make it operate mostly normally. I made some changes in terminal.

  • I can't expand my partition and I have free space Macbook pro mid 2010

Hello! I have a macbook pro mid 2010 with Mavericks, I had 2 partitions and deleted one with the disk utility, now I want to expand the one that I have left but I can't, I cannot drag the corner of the partition because it is below of the free space, I will post a picture so you can understand better.  Also I tried using iPartitions but it won't let me make any changes. Thank you

    Hi LamboMong,
    just try this:
    http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

  • Why is the sound being played back on my retina macbook pro?

I bought a 13inch retina macbook pro on friday last week. I use Skype daily and chat with friends but I am having an issue. Lets say I am on Skype and chatting with people and I listen to music or watch youtube video at the same time the call is going. The person on the other line of skype can hear what ever is going on clear as day. I ALWAYS use my apple earpods while on skype and listening to music. I had a 13inch 2010 macbook pro and it never did this while on skype and listening to something. I took it back to bestbuy where I bought it thinking it was just defect and they replaced it for me, but this computer is doing the same. Is there a defect or something? I want to know becuase this is exreamly annoying.

He's talking about it happening when he's using headphones, that is not normal.
In your system preferences, under sound, in the last tab, use the test microphone function to find out whether Mountain Lion itself is causing you to hear things back or if Skype is sending your audio playthrough to the person your in a video call with.

  • Just downloaded mavericks, now iPhoto won't load because of an error message that says "You can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac" . I have a 17" MacBook Pro, mid 2010 model running 2.53 GHz and Intel Core I5,

I just downloaded the new Mavericks operating sytem on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro, 17" 2.53GHz, Intel Core I5 machine. My IPhoto is no longer working at all, I'm getting an error message that says - "You Can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac". I also loaded Mavericks onto my other MacBook Pro 17", mid 2009 model and everything works fine. I would think that the newer Mac would easily work with IPhoto. Also, when I try to download from the App Store, it asks for my Apple ID and Password, I enter it, and then the little spinning color wheel just spins forever, with nothing ever happening. I tried downloading the IPhoto Upgrade but it never actually downloads, HELP!!!

What version of iPhoto do you have installed?  Is if one of the versions shown as not compatible in this screenshot?
If it is then go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5.  It will be free if you have an iPhoto 9 or later verson currently.

  • I have an apple macbook pro late 2013 15" retina display crashing on me when i am connected to an external display?

I got the following message after the crash, it happens a few times a day, my system is the base with 16gb ram late 2013 15" macbook pro retina.  it only happens when i am connected to an external display, I do have a converter from vga to displayport.  also, i run 4 different browsers in incognito mode as i do web testing and also have about 30 tabs open and excel and a few other apps open, not sure if this is what makes it happen or if it is the external display?  it is under warranty, so if you see anything below that may relate to the hardware i can bring it in and get it fixed.

  • 10.8.2 audio jack issue fix with a 15" retina Macbook Pro

OK so I had an issue where I could not get the headphone jack to work whatso ever with multiple pairs of headphones. I barely used the port so I i'm not sure what exactly the problem is down to as I had recently installed a ton for new software thank to MacHeist charity bundle and also putting on Logmein.
I also occasional  watch content via the hdmi out with audio going into my Onkyo tx-nr616 reciever. This weirdly enough proved to be the key in getting my headphone jack to work again.
I had tried removing he sound drivers for Logmein to no avail. I was backing up via time machine when i though to try playing some music via the hdmi out. The sound device poped up in outputs in sound as expected. then i plugged in the headphones and the 'internal speakers' changed to 'headphones. I pulled the hdmi lead and there I had it.... audio through the **** headphones again!
Problem is if i'm away from home again and not near a hdmi cable this is gonna be a pain. Apple clearly need to look into this as a few people have reported issues from a few searches i've seen. Hope this helps all.
Weird my bootcamped Windows 8 had the same issue!

This ended up going into a authorised repair centre, i'm awaiting its return....

  • I have a retina MacBook Pro, and a thunderbolt display.  I've noticed that randomly when docking to the display (I close my laptop screen) my Launchpad layout will randomly reset.  It isn't consistent, and i'm not sure why this is happening!

This is very annoying because I really enjoy using launchpad.  I have a lot of applications in there and I hate having to reorganize everything.  I messed with a third party application before to backup/restore my launchpad layout, but it had some issues with Mountain Lion so I ditched it.  Any thoughts?

Threads are just processes that link together like the threads in these discussions, well, maybe that is a bad example given how disjointed these get
It looks like you are not pushing the cpu or hard drive enough to cause your behavior.  Not sure what the temperature limit on that cpu is, on the newer models it is around 100-110 °C which is notciabley hot, and the system shutsdown for self protection at the thermal limit.
You could be hitting a thermal limit causing that behavior...so do you see good behavior at lower load levela on the system?  Does this only happen with when you are under the high graphic loads?
Trying to zero in on when this occurs to see if we an isolate the problem.
