You mean the Poker site? I assume that you can open the web site. However, I think that you are trying to download a .exe file - a Windows file that will not work on the iPad anyway. If you have another app that will "try" to open the app, Safari will go through the motions of downloading the file, but you can't use the file anyway.
You can download some types of files with other browsers, but that .exe file is not going to work on the iPad at all. Is that what you are trying to do?

  • Safari will not download, instead it opens a blank page

Whenever I try to download a file, Safari will not trigger a download. Instead, it opens up a blank grey page. The full download address appears in the address bar, with the file name I'm trying to download at the end ( like.... http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/11.1.102.55/install_flash_p layer_osx.dmg )
but the download never triggers. My primary Browser is Safari Version 5.0.5 (6533.21.1), but I have also tried to download using Firefox 3.6.3. which also never triggers. I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a late 2008 MBP.
Normally, I can use the "Download linked File" function, but occasionally a website will only let me download a .html, or .php file instead. At the moment, I am trying to download the most recent Adobe Flash Player update, but its being a right mare!!! Hope someone can help me please!!

Your Safari version is outdated (because you moved it) and probably incompatible with your Mac OS version. However, that doesn't explain the problem with Firefox.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, monitor, and Ethernet, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account that has the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, perhaps including wireless networking on certain Macs. If you usually connect to the Internet via WiFi, and it doesn’t wohrk in safe mode, connect using an Ethernet cable. If you can’t do that, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and perform a safe login, as follows: Enter your credentials at the login screen, then hold down the shift key and click the “Log in” button. Keep holding the key until the menu bar appears. In this mode, your login items, among other things, won’t load.
In safe mode, test again. Same problem(s) now?
After testing, reboot (if you booted in safe mode) or log out/log in (if you performed a safe login) as usual.

  • Safari will not download to my computer

I deleted safari because It messed up, and i want to download it again, every time i download it and i get to the stage where you chose what disc you want to chose, i click on my hard-drive disc, and it says that 'your computer cannot use this software" or something like that. i thought it might be doing that because it was overlapping on my old safari, so i completely deleted everything to do with safari that i had previously. I have tried downloading Safari and Safari 2.1 and neither work. They both show the exact same thing.

    Hello Christian,
Safari is not downloaded it in installed from the Tiger install disk 1
read this, Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4
Deleting Safari should be a very last step to troubleshooting it.
Did you test Safari is a test account first to see if it was a username home
issue ? That is a good first step for next time. Did you empty the trash?
Good luck!!. I hope this helps restore your Safari, please let us know.

  • Safari Will Not Download pdfs: On One Site and from One Computer Only

On only one computer, at only one web site (my own creation), I suddenly cannot get pdfs to open in Safari 4.0. What might be happening?
    1. I have created 5 web sites for my business. I use RapidWeaver from RealMacSoftware.
    2. Each of the 5 sites I’ve created has downloadable pdfs.
    3. Two of the sites are password protected, but this does not appear to be the source of the problem.
    4. One of these two protected sites (Site A) will not open any pdfs on the site in a Safari browser window on my Intel iMac running 10.5.7. When I click on a pdf link in Safari, I get the gray spinning wheel on a white page (which does not stop after 10+ minutes). If I try to reload the page, a white page results. Trying any other pdf link on this site produces nothing but a white page.
    5. If I option-click on the link, the pdf downloads fine, but I then have to open it. It does not open in Safari, but rather Reader.
    6. This behavior does not occur on two other Macs in my office. One, a MacBook Pro running 10.5.7 and Safari 4.0, opens the pdfs in Safari just fine. Another, a G5 running Tiger with Safari 4.0, also works fine. (FWIW: No problems on Dell running XP Home, via either Explorer or Firefox.)
    7. The behavior also does not occur on the other protected site I have created (Site B) or on any of the other unprotected sites. All computers, all browsers—no problems.
    8. I have the latest Adobe Reader version (9.1.2).
    9. I have repaired permissions and restarted—no luck.
    10. I have republished Site A through RapidWeaver, but there is no change. My web host had a power failure a day or two ago, but all sites were up and running yesterday.
Any clues about what’s going on? I have intentionally not downloaded the apparently available Safari version 4.0.1 because of the several problems reported on the boards.

I tried logging in to the guest account and got a slightly different result: Two of the five websites I've created with RapidWeaver now do not display pdfs using the Adobe Reader plugin.
The common thread now is that the two that don't work are the password protected sites. When I boot back into my main account, the original problem returns: Only one site doesn't work; the other one does.
    Still only on one computer.

  • Safari will not download on my PC side of my mac

I have tried to download Safari on the PC side of my macbook. As soon as I click the download button, the screen instantly goes to the next screen as if the download has completed. Safari won't download.

What broswer are you trying to use to download Safari? Have you tried both IE and Firefox?

  • Safari will not download most files

The only thing I can download are Apple updates: Not 3rd party application updates, not Firefox, not efax attachment files.
I am considering reinstalling Safari from the CD and/or trying to download the OS X 10.4.8 Intel update. Should I?
    Any suggestions will much appreciated.

Sometimes these problems can be quite the trial and error due to the multiple interaction of various files etc. At least we know this problem is specific to your User Account.
If you haven't done so, move the com.apple.safari plist back to its original location, writing over the newly created file.
Move to the desktop the Safari folder (which holds bookmarks, history, etc), and restart Safari. Try a download. If no relief, move the folder back, replacing the newly created one. If it does work, then you'll need to move one file at a time back to its original location, restarting Safari each time to isolate the problem file.
If the above doesn't work, go to the User Library>Caches>Safari and move that file to the desktop. Same routine as the previous step (restart Safari, etc). If no go, move the folder back etc.
The last one to try is the cookies.plist file found in your User Library>Cookies folder. Same routine, except restart the computer before restarting Safari.
    Post back.

  • Safari will not download certain things...

On a white plastic unibody macbook 13in, with 10.6.8, and safari 5.1.4, I can not update flash, nor can I download Google Chrome. They both go to a blackscreen for under the tabs, but load the progress bar/url bar. Additionally, the problem is similar in Firefox, which leads me to believe that this may be a OSX issue, not a safari issue. Please help, this is incredibally annoying for someone who plays a large quantity of flash games, uses youtube, et cetera. I want this to be fixed, so can anyone help?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari will not download any files or allow videos to play.

I have recently upgraded to safari version 4.02 on a 20" iMac with OS 10.5.7. I have tried to download files from a number of web sites and a number of different file types and none will download. Files that I have tried to download are psd, png, tiff, PDF, eps, etc.... Instead of my files downloading, I am presented with a new browser page chock full of (character) text. Can anyone help me fix this?

    The following worked for me under OS 10.4.11 on a iMac G5 with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard. Go to;
    http://shimshak.iblogget.com/2007/11/07/view-pdf-files-in-safari-3/
and follow the directions. Whata guy!!
There’s a similar problem with .pdf’s under the new Firefox 3.5.3. I found a fix for that — if you use Adobe Acrobat. Under, Firefox>Preferences>Applications>Portable Document Format,
set the application to your version of Acrobat. Preferences will let you browse over to your copy of Acrobat.
    I hope these are helpful.

  • Safari will not download.

I am not able to get my G5 using safari or any other web browser to download programs from other websites. I pay for them and then have to use another computer to download them then copy to disc and then install on my G5. Yes they are mac compatible programs. I can do software updates no problem. Any ideas to get it working? I have looked at the search items and nothing seems to work in their suggestions. I believe I am up to date on all updates, I check every day for updates.

No that one didn't answer my question. I have a folder for downloads and have permissions for it. When I click on the link the address shows up in the address line at the top of the page just like any web page you are at. The blue line runs across very quickly as if it is loading but way to fast and no download window apppears. I even search to see if it put it somewhere else but the finder doesn't find anything.

  • Ipad 2 - safari will not download applications

just bought an ipad 2 - tried to download several applications and safari refuses...microsoft office for excel, spreadshet, powerpoint etc - need these to open emails! any solutions??? suggestions??? ready to return it...

You can only install apps (programs) that are available in the App Store on the iPad (also accessible via iTunes on your computer) - 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) programs do not work on the iPad (iOS).
There are a number of office type apps available in the App Store, but the Mail app itself should be able to open/view those document types that you've mentioned, though you can't then save them to the iPad unless you've got an app that is capable of reading/storing them - the iPad is not like a computer as files/documents need to be associated/stored within an app, not just in a file system as on a computer.
I've seen a number of people recommend Documents To Go as a good 'office' app : http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/documents-to-go-premium-office/id317107309?mt=8 . There are also app versions of Apple's Notes, Pages, and Keynote programs, as well as a number of other third-party apps.

  • Safari will not download a file

I Am trying to download a Wetransfer zipped file, but safari says it cannot download it. Any suggestions?

Do you have an app on your iPad that supports zipped files ? Unless you have an app that supports zipped files (and which you can use 'open in' in Safari to copy it to it, or if you can browse to and download the file directly in the app), and can unzip them (I'm assuming that you want to unzip it on your iPad) and supports the type of file(s) in the archive, then you won't be able to save the file.

  • Safari will not download images

Safari keeps comomg up with the box with a question mark in it.  I cannot manually down load a lot of the images, pictures etc.  I have Flip4Mac but I think that is only for playing Windows video files.

    Hello Fraser:
We may not have the problem isolated. Are you connecting the computer that "works" in the same way that the one that "works" is connected?
There is nothing inherent in either Safari or OS X that I am aware of that would cause the problem you describe.
A general "fix" for some Safari performance problems (after clearing the cache) is to trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart (enter your personal Safari preferences). You might also trash the "favicon" file as that can slow Safari if it gets too large (~library>safari>icons).
I would also turn off all items in the Safari preferences under "autofill" and turn on all the web content boxes under "security."
