I purchased a $15 iTunes gift card and I redeemed it in the iTunes Store . When I tried to buy a song it kept saying I had to do some variations to my account. So I pressed ok. Then it asked for my security questions answers which I have forgotten. The website to get new questions and answers were there so I clicked on it. It said that it would send an email to my rescue email but I don't have any access to that account. Please help me change my rescue email so I can purchase new songs. Thanks

How can iI change my rescue email? My original apple id email is no longer valid and I would like to change my apple id to what is currently my rescue email. I have a secondary email that I can change to my rescue email. However, because I could not designate my primary email as my apple id, my current secondary email is my apple id. Please help.

This is what I actually did when I needed to change my rescue email. However, it is clear that the above strategies would now work for me.
I needed to change my rescue email b/c I wanted that email to be my primary email/appleID. The rescue email and primary cannot be the same for some reason. When I needed to do it, I forgot the answer to one of my security questions so was forced to click "Send reset security info email to •••••@***.com." This sent an email to my rescue email address -- so if you cannot access your rescue, this alt strategy will not work.
When I clicked the link sent, something went wrong and aple could not bring me to that page. However, when I looked back in the browser tab where I was managing my AppleID, the page/environment for "Password and security" changed. All that was there was something to click that said "Reset .....". This brought me to a page to change all 'password and security' related issues including my rescue email address.
Summary of Alt:

I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
      tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
      "done", in the upper right corner
c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
      Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
      should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
      security questions.
d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
      selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
      should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
      questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

Navigate to appleid.apple.com using your web browser.
Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
After you've validated your identity by correctly answering your security questions, click Edit to the right of your rescue email address.

Once you have created a rescue address, you cannot delete it, nor can you change it to the same address as used by your ID. There are numerous providers you can get additional email addresses from, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Google etc etc.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted. If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. That's definitely not supposed to happen. You shouldn't have someone else's iCloud email linked to your ID.
You'll have to get iCloud support to sort this one out. The only way to contact them is to start here: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/. You'll have to provide your iPhone serial number. Unless it's within the 90 day free support window, or you purchased AppleCare, there will be a charge. I suppose you can plead your case when they answer that you shouldn't be charged as you didn't set up this address and it shouldn't have happened with your ID.

You would have to change it back to your old email address in order to turn off "Find My iPhone" on your devices. After you changed it back to your old address and deactivated "Find My iPhone" (activation lock) you could change your Apple ID to your new address again. Now it should wok on all your devices.

That's Activation Lock. You will need to remember the Apple ID and password you used to set up the phone.
If you can't remember them, you can go to iforgot.apple.com to try to recover the information.
If you are the original owner of the phone & have proof of purchase, you can try calling Apple to see if they can assist also.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.
