HT5312 how to change your rescue email

how do you you add a rescue email if you didnt add one when you created the accout? because when i go to purchase anything off the itunes store it ask me to answer sercurity questions but i dont remember my answers for them because i made this account a long time ago. iIt also doent give me the option to send the answers to my rescue email because i dont think i ever put a rescue email when i created the account.

If you aren't getting the reset link then you don't have one, and you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions - as it says on the page that you posted from :
Note: The option to send an email to reset your security questions and answers will not be available if a rescue email address is not provided. You will need to contact iTunes Store support in order to do so.

    What someone posted earlier works, although if you can't remember you password, or the answers to your security questions that is a different problem. 
    Go to https://appleid.apple.com/ .
    In the right column, click the link for "Manage your account".
    Log in.
    In the left column, click the link for "Password and Security".
    Answer the security questions when prompted.
    In the right column, under the heading "Rescue Email Address", you'll find links for editing or deleting your rescue email address.
    Then find where your rescue email is listed, and click edit, you will have to input a NEW email address that is different from the one you want to use as your appleID, then Save.
    After you complete those steps, then you can go back to the Name, ID, and E-mail Addresses tab, and input the e-mail address you would like.  (The one you just deleted from your rescue e-mail.)

    You cannot and need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
    They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

    If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address - if it doesn't show then you don't have a rescue email address.

    I have this message:
    Exceeded Maximum Attempts
    We apologize, but we were unable to verify your account information with the answers you provided to our security questions.
    You have made too many attempts to answer these questions. So, for security reasons, you will not be able to reset password for the next eight hours.

    If there's an option on that message to have it sent to you, use it, wait a few hours, and check the spam filter. If not or it doesn't work, you need to contact Apple, either through the link in that article or by phoning them.
