HT5313 Wrong Access Rights, unable to repair

Since a larger update (Lion 10.7.5 on my Mac-Mini) including parts of OS X itself and iTunes 10.7 I think I have access problems.
I observe the following behavior:
* iTunes:
Every time I start iTunes I have to accept the license agreement again.
* Mail:
When I open the preferences page and then press the red “close” button an error window pops up that states something like “Error storing preferences” (I have a german language OS), probably wrong access rights in ~/Library/Preferences“.
* When moving files from one folder to the other (using the finder) in my home directory tree the systems copies instead of moving ( unix mv ).
* I cannot install the “adblock plus” add-on in Firefox (also because of wrong access rights in the profile folder).
* StandBy does not work any more.
I tried already the following remedies all without success:
* I repaired the access rights using disk-utility. But I think that changes nothing, cause it seems to repair the same errors each time I start it.
* I also reset the access rights of my home folder using “resetpassword” after restart also without any change in the wrong behavior.
* I used applejack.
I'm stuck!

Hello,
thanks for the hint. It did not solve my problem, but it gave me an idea of the cause.
I think, user "system" or "admin" was missing to have rw-access in the home dir, in detail:
The newly created user, although of being an admin, had no rights. He could not start mail and system preferences. So I looked at the access rights in his home directory and realized that "system" has read/write access.
The existing user with my access rights problem had no user "system".
I tried to add "system" but failed. So I added the user "administrators/admin" to the list of users having read/write access in the home directory.
This solved the problem.
Someone (maybe me) must have deleted it before.
Thanks again.
Achim

  • FSL-02007  Unable to set access rights of saploc.

    Hello,
I am performing an installation of SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4 on Windows 2008 Server R2 along with MS SQL Server 2005 SP3 on a High Availability cluster.
I have completed the MS SQL Server 2005 into the first Cluster of MSCS. Performed the moving the MSCS groups of database, SAP and Cluster groups with success.
I created a shared file: sapmnt under the directory: E:\usr\sap for Everyone, & administrator with full access. The shared file was created as
    SAPCLUSTER\sapmnt.
Then I started to execute the installation of Central Services Instance for ABAP (ASCS).
I logged as DECORCENTER.administrator, executed the command sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOST=DECORSAP
The installation has stopped after an error:

    Hi,
Could you try to create "saploc" share manually and set share permissions to "Administrators, sap_localadmin" group, with full access? If you tried this before, did you face with a problem?
You should perform this activity with the same user that you've executed SAPINST

  • Using Pivot-Slicers on a SSAS Cube with Access Rights

    Dear all,
we're using a SSAS Cube and try to access the data by an Excel Pivot. That works fine.
Furthermore, we are using the slicer feature of Excel 2010 to select the specified data.
The problem is that we have a dedicated rights concept and only some users are allowed to see all dimension elements. Other users are not allowed to see all the data. This is ok and works for Pivots, as we can see there only the elements which the respective
user is allowed to see. In the case of slicers this doesn't work: the slicers always show all dimension elements (the restricted ones with 0-values). Can this somehow be repaired, so that the user only sees the elements in the slicer he's allowed to see?
    Best Regards
    Bjoern

    Hi Charlie,
I guess we have some kind of language barrier here because i did not fully understand your explanation.
I've got a User Günther who is only to allowed to see the revenues of his own company.
Therefore, he has got a restriction on the company-dimension, which has 100 companies. He is only allowed on his own company.
If we open a new pivot with the company dimension, he will only see 1 column (with his company) instead of 100.
If I currently add a slicer to the pivot, the list of elements in the slicer contains 100 companies. All of them are also shaded (which shows, that data is available). If i click on a shaded company, on which he is not allowed, Günther only sees zero-values
    (0,00).
In this case, it would be better to only see the 1 company the slicer shaded, which has values that Günther is allowed to see. Then, he would only see his own company shaded and 99 would have the look like being "without data".
If my proposal would be impleneted, it would be much easier to use excel BI services on a big SSAS cube with multiple dimensions and multiple users that have different access rights.
The best would be, if a slicer could be customized in more details (e.g., with a mdx query).
// Do I perhaps have misplaced the question into the wrong forum?
    Best Regards

  • How do I fix an access rights error when launching Image Processor in Adobe Bridge CC?

Often when I am working on files and want to batch process Jpegs for clients I get an error message from Image Processor.  It will state "I am unable to create a file in this folder.  Please check your access rights to this location ...."
I have cleared cache and up'd my history levels.  I checked to make sure the files were not locked and read/write was enabled.  I am not sure why this error keeps occurring.  I am using Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 (2014.2.2 release) with Adobe Bridge CC (6.1.0.115)

    It's an endless circle.

  • Unable to repair degraded Virtual disks in Storage Spaces under Hyper-V 2012 R2 Core

    Hi all,
I am finding myself in the following conundrum. I have a storage pool under Hyper-V Core, with 2 2TB Seagate drives.
One of the drives completely died (wouldn't spin up, tried it in a different box, still to no avail). I sent it in to Seagate for warranty replacement, got the new drive. Installed it and went through the notions of adding it to the pool and retiring the
one that was with "Lost Communication" status.
Tried to repair the virtual disks that are showing as "Unhealthy-Detached", quickly get 100% complete, but the repair didnt work.
The storage pool is in degraded state.
    Looks like metadata is corrupted.
Followed this post to upgrade Storage Spaces to latest version:
     https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/eead59e9-5e49-4bb6-8cbb-1dafddd9576b/unable-to-repair-degraded-virtual-disks-in-storage-spaces-2012r2?forum=winserverfiles
    Still, to no avail.
    Couple of questions:
    1) Is the data on the 3 virtual disks in state "Unhealthy: Detached" not recoverable?
    2) How can I get the storage pool back to "healthy"?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Access rights - heavy issue

I have managed to somehow partly corrupt the access rights on my iMac/SnowLeo system.
Getting a lot of failure messages at the start up and some applications are just not working properly anymore.
iTunes for instance does not longer recognize my iPhone - just doesn't - and again I get some strange messages.
Tried to repair access rights be starting OS x from DVD and used hard disk tools (not sure whether it is called exactly this in English - have a German system installed) and used "repair access rights" on the OS volume - seemed to work because a lot has been repaired but after starting iMAC again - same problem.
Now - what can I do to get this fixed on the access rights? Re-install Mac OS x- what would happen with all applications, e-mails etc?
Any idea - help - would be very much appreciated
    Robert

Thanks - tried it (and seemed to make a lot of sense) but didn't help at the end :-(
    Still same issues
Am not a Mac OS X specialist or UNIX or whatever - actually I am not very familiar with the details of the OS and all its settings etc etc.
However, following some messages, Internet, other sources ---- here's what I have managed to find out:
    1) Mac OS starts up - all fine
    2) after the desktop / dock is visible I get some similar but in general the following message (trying to translate since they are in German on my installation)
"insecure start objects disabled" - ../Library/StartUpItems/Executor" has not be started since the object does not have the correct security settings
    .. I usually get about 10 of them with different "names"(objects) - e.g. "/Executor","/EyeConnect" etc etc.
Now - this all happens on my iMac; I also have a similar configured MacBook and just checked the security setting for exactly these objects on it - the difference is in "share and access rights" on the MacBook has "System" read and write and all others only read - funnily enough - I can not find "System" within "Share and Access rights" on the iMac!!!!
So - next idea: let's add "System" as a user to these folders/shares with "Share and Access rights" - can find a user named "System".
Uh - it seems I have managed to "kill" something on my iMac ..... just don't know how (but that's not so important) and just don't know how to repair - re-installation of Mac OS X on iMac didn't make a lot of changes.
    Help appreciated!!!
    Robert

  • Access Rights Error

I have been using LP 7 for a year and a half and have just encountered a problem for the first time. When trying to add fades to tracks in a file and when trying to bounce audio, I get an error message telling me that I have insufficient access rights to perform these operations. What is that? Any suggestions on how to get my rights back (other than hire a lawyer and petition congress)?
    Thanks.

Repair permissions on they drive you are recording to.
    Or
Get info on the folder and be change permissions to read/write and apply to all enclosed items.
    Or both

  • After install cluster - all nodes, unable to repair /global....

    I install sunCluster 3.1 Update 4 on solaris 8 :
V440 + v440 + v240 (2+1 architector, that meend that the therd node is the standBy and he atached to all disks). + 2* D1000 storageas that was splited.
I install the cluster OK, but after I check with scstat that all is OK and also the qourum is configured OK,
then I scshutdown the cluster and the the nodes came up but they stop due to message
"fsck: could not stat s5: No such file or directory - error."
there is the output on one node :

someone know what to do on this situation?
Anather Question is, befor I install the cluster I install the webcomponnet and afterr that there was a message during the boot :

    somebody knows why it's happand?
    thanks

I install all from the begining, and it's happand again !!!
I belive it's connect to the messages that apperd on each node after the first boot for the scinstall finished.
on each node this message shows :

    Cannot open /etc/cluster/ccr/did_instances.
Booting as part of a cluster.
after all of the node rebooted OK with this messages, I check the nodes and all was OK.
but the I configured the quorum and it was also OK in the scstat -q.
    then scshutdown -y -g 0
all the nodes booted with the same messages :

  • MacBook Pro won't start after changing access rights

I did something very wrong. Unfortunately I changed the access rights of Macintosh HD for "everyone" to none.
Result, my MacBook Pro won't start anymore.
Already tried the installation disk, reset password for root and users. No result.
Help program "check acces rigths". Didn't work either.
How do I reset the access rights of Macintosh HD?

The first solution is what you're looking for.

  • Upgrade and Install fails after first boot. Then I am unable to repair

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this?
I've experienced the aqua screen of death with the Upgrade option and was unable to resolve it, even after trying the APE removing technique.
So, I decided to restore back to Tiger 10.4.10 (thanks to Super Dupering prior to upgrade) and try the archive and install option. All appeared to go well, installed fine, allowed me to login and run all my apps. But, upon doing my first reboot after the 'sucessful' install the system just hangs at the gray screen. I tried using Disk Utility from the Leopard DVD, but it's unable to repair permissions.
I got this error message: 'The underlying task reported failure on exit'. Tried many times, I also tried the /sbin/fsck -fy in single user mode.
I tried booting into DiskWarrior 4's. Once in DW4 I ran the Repair function there... Here I got another error message.
    This error being: 'Error -9997'.
OK I thought, something random must have happened. Soooo I restored to Tiger again and ran the Archive and Install option once again.
I'm am again experiencing the exact same problems with freezing gray boot screen and the inability to repair permissions (all after doing my first boot after sucessful install and login/opening of many apps)
Please please please can anyone she some light on this problem???
I'm going to try one more option:
Upgrade after I've disable all startup options and removing anything to do with APE....
    I will report back!
This is really really crap Apple, I can't believe I've spent £85 and probably 15 hours on this sloppy release. Utterly disapointed

    Just me it seems then....
Right, I think it's finally resolved, only after the fifth time. I've now rebooted twice and so far so good.
There was a new message when I powered down for the first time, something along the lines of:
Please wait while your Boot Caches are updated.
This seems to be a reasuring message, I feel almost confident in restarting again.
I upgraded using the following method:
    1. Disabled ALL startup items (System Preferences>Accounts>Login items)
    2. Removed all traces of APE (Application Enhancer) using Finder:
    /Library/Preference Panes/Application Enhancer.prefpane
    /Library/Frameworks/Application Enhancer.framework
    /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Application Enhancer.bundle
    /Library/Preferences/com.unsanity.ape.plist
    3. Repaired Permissions
Right, before I perform a new backup I think I'll see how she runs for a week, so I'm sure the boot problem is definitely gone.

  • Temporarily unable to repair corrupt catalog

i'm running the current version of lightroom. it is giving me a dialog box that says:
temporarily unable to repair corrupt catalog
lightroom encountered problems reading or writing from disk when attempting to repair catalog
the operation may succeed in future attemps
if you wish to try again, please first check available disk space and close all other applications
each time i try, the same dialog box appears.
the corrupt catalog is located on a 1tb drive, 554gb used / 357gb free
what can i do to fix this?

    I presume you don't have a recent-enough catalog backup (?)
I bet you won't let that happen again..
Anyway, depending on what's wrong with the catalog, you may be able to recover develop settings (only) via a plugin called WreckHover (free, by me).
In addition to catalog, settings may be stored in:
    * xmp if you've saved metadata (if not, I bet you won't let that happen again either) - recovered when importing new photos, or reading metadata (Library menu) of already-imported photos.
    * exported versions (if exported with all metadata) - you can recover settings from those via the same plugin: WreckHover.
Note: you'll need to restore a backup catalog first, or start a new one if no backups (really?).
    Good luck,
    Rob

  • SMB shares on Windows, access from i5/OS (OS/400), access rights

We are running SAP R/3 on i5/OS.
We would like to access, from SAP, files on a Windows server, through SMB (Windows file sharing).
    In other words:
The SMB server is the Windows machine.
The SMB client is the i5/OS machine.
This is different from the situation with a Windows application server and an i5/OS database server.
We have some problems with the access rights.
We manage to give access to user PRDOFR, but that does not help for accesses from the SAPsystem, because the SAPsystem runs under user-ID PRD02.
    How can we solve this?
If we cannot solve this, we may have to consider NFS: an NFS client on i5/OS and an NFS server on Windows (but NFS is "foreign" to both platforms).

    Hi Erick,
... then you should tell us this point ... (or might want to read the post steps in the inst docu ...)
up to 6.40 this password is always :sapnnpwd   (where "nn" is the instance number)
as of 7.0 SR1 with the master password, it should be the master password, that you selected during the installation. You can test this with logging on with this user. You might be kicked out immediately but this is different to the message: password wrong ...
