Help please ! I cannot send emails from my imac, but can from i-pad and i-phone. I can also receive emails. Any solutions?

Hello all!
I am new to Mac - just bought my very first macbook pro 13" yesterday and have fallen TOTALLY in love with it! Not sure why its taken me so long to realised my life wasnt complete without a Mac, but anyhoo!
OK, so I have synced my Yahoo Mail Plus account with Mail, and it receives messages perfectly, but when i try to send messages, the sending little loading wheel just keep spinning, and Outbox says i have 1 message to go, but it never sends! Its been going for about 10 miunutes now!! I have quit and restart Mail a few times, but NADA!
Any ideas? Advice? Help?

It doesn't seem to cover your specific issue, but have you tried using a different network (either a different wi-fi network, or switching from wi-fi to cellular or vice-versa if you have a wi-fi+cellular iPad)?
For GMail, iCloud and Yahoo, copies of messages are stored on their respective servers, so you could try deleting the account on your iPad, then re-adding each account one at a time to see if that resolves the issue.

Thought that I'd report in. My firewall is not on, so that can't be the problem.
I went into my mail settings and re-entered passwords, account info, unselected SSL, then selected it again, entered custom ports, etc., etc., and was able to get mail to send, but no information seems to be stored and there doesn't seem to be any way to save any changes that are made. There was always a box that came up and asked if you wanted to save changes, but I can't find it now. If you shut mail down and start it up again, the same old problem occurs.
I also have two smtp servers and it seems that if one is working, the other doesn't. If outbound.att.net is working and shows green, then smtp.att.yahoo.com is red. If smtp.att.yahoo.com is green, then outbound.att.net is red. Occasionally they will both be green, but neither one sends any mail. Strange!
Also, Connection Doctor shows a red light for no connection when my mail just swooshed out of the mailbox! It really is working, but Connection Doctor doesn't show a connection. And, when the light is green and a connection is made, the mail still doesn't leave the box.
It still takes a long time to send anything, but I was able to send about five test messages tonight. I'm still waiting for a fix from Apple.

Can't send AOL mail but can receive it

I have had my Droid 2 for 3 months and still can't send AOL email but can receive it. My outgoing settings are: smtp.aol.com - port 587

The best thing to do will be to go into the account menu and delete the account to make sure we set it up with the correct server information. The steps to delete the account are listed below:

Menu
Remove Account
Choose the AOL Account
Once you have done this we can re-add the account with the manual setup. The steps to do this are below:
Locate and Select the Mail icon from your Applications Menu. You will see a place to enter your Username and Password.
After entering your full email and password, select Manual Setup. You should now be on the Incoming Server page.
Locate the drop down box at the top that typically displays "POP3" by default. Touch and change the selection to IMAP.
In the Incoming Server box, change the entry so that it displays "imap.aol.com". Nothing else should need editing; Select Next.
You are not on the Outgoing server page. Change the Outgoing server box so that the entry displays "smtp.aol.com". Nothing else should need editing; Select Next.
Assuming everything went through with success, you will now be prompted to choose display/account names for the email. If you are planning on setting up multiple emails, then label so that you can differentiate this one from the others.
Once you have done this it will begin to receive emails with 15 minutes.

You need to open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>"Account Information" tab>and there input the required information for your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). Your Internet Service Provider will have the required information to give you to input here. Make sure that you also click at the end of the line "Outgoing Mail Server" on the arrows to get the dropdown list, and there click on "Edit SMTP Server List" and fill in the data in that resulting window also.

You have a setting incorrect in the outgoing mail settings. Either the port is wrong or the server is wrong.
Please post what the server is and the port it is using. It should be something like POP.XXX.com/net or Mail.xxx.com/net.

I changed my mail password and now cannot send mail on ipad 2 or iphone5 but can send on my macbook pro. I deleted my account on the iphone and ipad and reinstalled it with the new password but still will not let me send. I am at a loss as what to do since it works ok on the macbook pro.

Hi,
We have been with BT for quite some time, used to regularly use our home phone to send and receive texts, but havent done for about almost a year. This weekend my wife needed to, and sent an SMS to my iPhone. I never received it, so we tested sending to her mobile and the same, never received. We have sent one to the home phone and it receives ok.
Our settings on the phones have not changed, and I checked the numbers with the BT PDF, so the settings are correct.
Any ideas?

I can't send e-mails but can receive through my homecall(talk talk) account on my ipod touch

Have done a few checks on my outgoing server. I keep getting an error message that says that my username or password is incorrect but I am copying the username from the configuration in microsoft outlook and I know that the passwords are ok.

I have a homecall e-m,ail address via Talk Talk. The Talk Talk website tells me the settings that I need. The smtp address is a homecall one but I have got in a bit of a loop. My ipod tells me that smtp.homecall.co.uk doesn't support password authentication but I am unable to turn this off. Not too sure what to do next.

Entourage not letting me send e-mails but can recieve them...

Everytime I try and send an e-mail using entourage with my COX email account to any e-mail adress, the following error message is displayed:

My e-mail account was working just fine until recently when this problem started occuring. It only occurs with my COX account and will let me recieve all my email but not send any through this account. I called COX and they told me they can't help me with this problem other then going over the correct incoming/outgoing server names, which I confirmed are correct.
I have searched for this error code on google and on these forums but could not find anything about it...anyone know how to fix my problem so I can send emails again?

Error -17099 is an Entourage error kSMTPServerReplyErr, and is returned when the SMTP server has returned a permanent or transient error or returns an unexpected result code.
This error is coming from your ISP.
Users have reported this error when sending to large groups. ISPs limit the number in a group. Usual number is 50 recipients to avoid spammer misuse. Entourage has no limit. You should contact your mail provider to ascertain the maximum number of recipients per message and note it. You can use the free "Split Recipients" script to send a mass e-mail in separate mailings automatically:
Is there some reason your ISP won't help you other than telling you the server names? It may be that for whatever reason your ISP has flagged your account as a spammer. I'd certainly contact them again.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Hi can anyone tell me how to set up iPad to send emails? I can receive them but can't send any except public emails account

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

ginavee, as I stated in my earlier post, we've no idea what settings you need to enter in your Mail account preferences. You'll have to go to your service provider's web site and see if they provide it in a support section there. For example, if you use Comcast as your service provider, the Comcast web site will have information on how to set up Apple's Mail program. You'll need, of course, your email account name and password.
You may be able to determine your Mail settings by looking at your iPad's Mail settings if you're able to send and receive email from that device.
