HT5361 I want to import my mailboxes from one computer to another.

I have the old macbook pro connected as a hard disc. When I click "import mailboxes" in the new computer's (macbook air) mail program, I can't find where the mailboxes are located on the old computer. Help?

Mail folders typically reside in ~/Library/Mail (user Library). So, you should be able to open Finder / Go / Go To Folder and enter the path of your old MBP's ~/Library/Mail folder.

Homesharing gives you the option of seeing only the content in the shared library, that is not already in your own library.

Select all your mailboxes, and then select
Mailbox ▹ Export Mailbox...
from the Mail menu bar. Export the mailboxes to the Desktop folder. Transfer them to the new machine.
On the new machine, import the mailboxes:
File ▹ Import Mailbox...

Importing iWeb files from one computer to another

I have created a new website on my laptop and have my other sites on my desktop and want to transfer the site on my laptop to my desktop. I don't see where we can import files from one computer's files to another computer's files. Is there a way to do this?

You can copy the domain.sites2 file from the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your laptop to the Desktop of your desktop Mac, rename it to something like "site name.sites2", and put it in the iWeb folder with your other domain.sites2 file.
If you want to merge the sites in the two domain files into one new domain file you can do so with iWebSites.

Importing TV shows from one computer to another

Hi there. Pretty simple question, hoping to get an answer.
I have two laptops and am trying to get my tv shows from one computer to the other. I used a memory stick to transfer them to begin with, but once they're onto the other computer, they won't pull up. They don't even register. Is there a way to get them to play without having to purchase them all over again?

You can only burn TV Shows as data CD/DVD. You cannot edit the DRM protected files.

To authorize a computer to play purchases using your Apple Account
Select a song, video, or audiobook you've purchased (in your library or the Purchased playlist).
Click the Play button.
If the computer is already authorized, the item plays. If the computer has not yet been authorized, iTunes asks you to enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the song.
From what I can read it doesn't state that you need internet access to authorize.
If indeed internet access is needed then I guess that you will need to transport the computer to a location that has internet access and authorize the computer.

How to import a mailbox from one user to another?

Hi,
This is my situation on a work computer.
User 1 has a mailbox with work emails on it.
User 1 has just left the company.
I have created a user 2 for the new employee.
I want to import the User 1 emails over to user 2 so that user 2 can carry on with user 1's work and still have all the emails user 1 sent and received.
When I use the import mail function of mail I cannot import another users mail.
How can I do this? Surely this isn't an unusual situation?
Can anyone help? We are on pop 3

Assuming you can either login to the computer as user1, or as the admin on that computer, try copying the entire /Users/user1/Library/Mail folder to a USB flash drive, then login as user2, launch Mail and in Mail's menubar, go to File > Import Mailbox and follow the directions to navigate to the desired mail account data stored on the USB flash drive.

Just trying to copy my mailboxes from my laptop to my G5 tower. Both on os10.5 and going from macmail to macmail. I tried to find out where the file lives as far as the mailbaoxes but no luck. Any info would be great.

Hi Jeff, be sure Mail is quit on both computers, then...
On Mail these 2 folders...
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
... only the plist is separate.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

Problem moving mail from one computer to another...

Hello.
I'm trying to move a specific mailbox from one computer to another computer. I'm doing this to 2 pairs of machines and with the first pair I had no issues. But, then second pair I get errors.
On the first computer I just copied the .mbox folder (which contains the sub "Messages" folder & info.plist file) from the one computer to the other. Then, in mail.app I "import" the messages via the Import option (importing mail from Mac OS X). No problem and all messages are imported.
On the second pair of computers, I did the same thing, but when I try and Import the messages onto the second machine, it says it can't find any OS X mail messages to import.
I really need to get these messages from one machine to another. "Forwarding" or "Redirecting" all the messages from one machine to another isn't an option.
Can anyone suggest what might be wrong, or another way of migrating the single folder of messages (not the entire account) from one machine to another?

Hi Kristin,
I stay away from mbox files because it has never worked for me, but I may have a solution. This may not be THE award winning answer, but you could consider it when the other options don't work:
I assume you want to import a mailbox that is NOT part of an IMAP account, because otherwise you would not have this problem (right?) (otherwise just open that IMAP account on the computer you want the messages on).
But if you have an IMAP account, besides the POP account that contains the mailbox in question, you can use that account to fix your problem:
Go to the compu that has the desired mailbox, make a new folder in the IMAP account called 'backup' or whatever. Copy all messages from the desired mailbox to that new IMAP folder (depending on size this may take a while, because you are uploading via your internet connection). Now go to the other compu, make a new 'local folder' in mail.app. Open the IMAP account in mail.app and open the 'back up folder'. Now copy all messages to the new, local folder.
If you don't have an IMAP account, you can always open a free one with gmail.
I know, it's not very elegant, but this will work guaranteed.

This is a bug in Mail. The mailbox archiving function does not include attachments, which gives the error with the import. To workaround this you can create a mailbox in Mail and copy to it all emails you want to export. Then go in Finder to [user]/Library/Mail/Mailboxes en select the created mailbox. Copy this to the public directory of your other mac. Then start Mail on that other mac and import the mailbox from the public directory. Should work now.

I have tried copy/paste from one user/library to other, but mail went crazy with permission and even if I changed them manually now Mail can't save the passwords of the mailboxes, so I need enter each time Mail check the mail from the server. Any idea?

You need to let Mail do the Import, and not do this manually in the Finder. However, if you force a reindexing things may get back to normal. This assumes you are not talking about mailboxes in account folder, but rather On My Mailboxes?
To reindex all mailboxes force a reindexing by deleting the Envelope Index. With IMAP or Exchange account, forcing reindexing requires removing the account folder. See:

Trouble with keyword import in LR5 from one catalog to another

Hi; I am trying to open a new catalog because my original catalog is getting somewhat sluggish. It has about 60000 images. First, will opening a new catalog improve anything? Second, I have tried to import the prior catalog "keywords" by going: metadata, import keywords, light room settings, key word sets and get "no items match your search. What am I doing wrong?

I have had this Nikon 7100 for about 6 months. It has more whistles and bells than I am likely to use. I haven't been troubled by 24 megs in LR I guess because I use it mostly for filing and Photoshop for editing. I only edit a few. If I were in need of batch editing, which I may in the future, I think LR would be better.
As to the timing, don't we all get spoiled. We have more computer power now than NASA had 15 years ago. It makes you wonder how the original Apple 2+ with 48k memory even functioned.

It doesn't sound unreasonable, it is the size of my current camera and I do have to wait for imports to complete but never timed them. Is this a new camera? The reason for the question is that megapixels matter a lot for Lightroom, it is something I haven't gotten used to yet. There are certain Develop adjustments Lightroom struggles with on a 24 megapixel file (cropping, and the Upright and Manual lens corrections, for example). In other words, there are things that Lightroom does on a 6, 12, 14 megapixel file with ease and cannot do with ease on a 24 megapixel file. Memory does not seem to matter, I recently upgraded my laptop and the performance improvement is marginal. You can almost hear the cogwheels moving sometimes. I want to move ebooks from one computer to another. Both have Digital Editions installed. Older one 2.0 ver has books installed. Newer one has ver 3.0 no books installed. Both are authorized with the same user id. Do I have to upload from older machine to cloud first? How do I do that? Do I have to manually transfer files? How do I do that? Can I get pointed to online directions someplace?

Figured it out. Copy files to new computer and add to library from digital additions. duh. Why was it some much easier to figure out answer once I posted the question?

Sounds like you want to set up Firefox Sync. This will allow you to keep all of your instances of Firefox synchronized. Just follow the steps in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync?s=sync&r=0&as=s this article] and you'll be set.

I want to move my library from one account to another. However, when I try to sync th old account it is not syncing to my iphone or exporting out. How can I do this? Someone told me that it may be set to WiFi but it was not. My libray is sitting there but I can get it out. Mean while I have changed accounts and down loading to the iphone on my new account (and changing computers as well) How do I make this work so I can get my Library to sync to my iphone or export it from the old account. Is there anyway to move my library from one accont to another from the itunes side?

Media is permanently tied to whatever account was used to purchase it. There is currently no possible way to change the account it is tied to.
Is there a reason why a new account was created?
