see the link on the right with the highlighted tick. In short click on the apple icon at top left and choose the wayward app from the 'force quit' dialogue. Another way is to put an icon in the dock for the Apple utility, "Activity Monitor". Set it to show all users processes and highlight that for the wayward app. The choose 'Quit Process'. BE CAREFUL, do not choose the low number processes which are fundamental operations for the whole OS.

When I open a link for another website Firefox opens a new tab but puts a line on the top of the new page saying that Firefox has blocked the website from transferring me to another page.
I have to press ALLOW before Firefox will open the new page.

The Device Manager lists it as an Unknown Device. I've tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, but it had no affect. The odd thing is that our other iPod (160 GB Classic) is recognized on the same computer using the same USB cable. When I plug the ipod in question into another PC, the PC seems to recognize the iPod and lists it in Windows Explorer (iTunes is not installed on this machine). There seems to be something out of wack with this PC/iPod combo. Any thoughts on what I can do to try to resolve this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

There could be any number of items causing this. First off is do you have an active internet connection? If so have you tried rebooting you computer?

It does not magically appear in a new place. It will only be where you put it.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

Mail application will not let me move items from 'junk' to 'trash'

When I try to delete messages it tells me they can not be moved to the trash because an item is there already there
or it quits unexpectedly.
“37900.emlx” couldn’t be copied to “Messages” because an item with the same name already exists is the error message.
Whether I highlight drag and drop, right click delete, or move manually one by one to trash.
It is driving me bonkers any ideas?

1. Go to the Mailbox menu, and select Erase Deleted Items ..In All Accounts.
2. Try Rebuild.
Select a misbehaving mailbox and again go to the Mailbox menu and select Rebuild.
Do this separately with each misbehaving mailbox.

It sounds like iMessage may be activated with the wrong phone number. Let’s see if we can resolve this. First, go ahead and sign out of iMessage and FaceTime:

Sign out and back in to iMessage and FaceTime
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.

It may be a range of different things, I am afraid.
You may try the list, unless someone comes up with something brighter.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4. I cannot find the trick to make Firefox 4 remember my tabs when I shut down my computer. How do I get that feature back?

In the prior version, on exit, Firefox asked me if I wanted to save my tabs for the next session. Firefox 4 does not do that. It loses my tabs so when I open up a new session I am starting from scratch rather than where I left off at.

There are the two entirely separate methods of resuming with the previous tabs. As mentioned in the first part of my message, the method you have chosen is to specifically start with the last set of tabs instead of starting with a home page.
The other method is to (maybe more as a one off) select to open with previous tabs from either the button in the default page, or from the history menu. It is this method that previously had the question as you closed down, there is no longer the question asking if you want to save the open tabs, although you do still get the option to use them on startup. It is a more sensible method, but it does cause concern for those of us used to being asked on closedown.

Several ways to force quit when you can't quit an app normally.
Go to your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then from the drop down menu select Force Quit.
You can also force quit an app using the Activity Monitor app located in /Applications/Utilities.
You should be able to shut down your Mac by holiding down the power button until the screen goes black. Then restart as usual.
