How are you using your comp?
Hold down the option key>Finder>Go>Library>Preferences.  Trash the com.apple.finder.plist file, repair permissions and restart your comp.  Please post back the results.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Firefox freezes when loading some web pages then the computer locks up

Sometimes, when loading a website, the browser freezes. Then the computer locks up and I have to use the power button to turn it off. There seems to be no pattern to this problem. I'm also not sure whether or not the problem begins within Firefox, but a web page was loading every time it happened. It has only started happening this week.

I seem to be having a very similar, if not exactly the same issue. I'm using the latest production FF 11.0 release on Win7 64 and as with this not only does FF freeze, but I can't task switch, or anything. The one thing I've noticed is that when the lockup happens, it always appears to be loading some custom font from a CDN, if I breathe deeply and slowly and allow the request to complete everything seems to eventually unfreeze and I can continue, so maybe something to do with implementation of custom font loading?

  • HT1758 Power failure in the middle of a software update and not the computer will not boot up.  The computer just has a white screen with a grey apple and just loads non stop.

My iMac will not boot up after a software update.  the screen is all whute will show a grey apple in the middle and will look like it is working but nothing happens; this can go on forever.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have a backup in the form of a bootable clone or Time Machine? Restore that and then try the update again.
Some things to try here (Safe Boot)

Another option might be to download the standalone from Apple Downloads on another Mac and try installing it in Firewire Target Disk Mode to the Mac that was interrupted during the update.

    Hi,
I have the check box on a second Partition  but not on the Time Machine one
I forget what I did now to get this called "Recovery HD"
For the rest try https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4055  User Tip that links to Pondini's work on Time Machine.

  • MB pro late 2011: The program shuts down and then the computer "dies"

Hi! I just bought a Mackbook pro from late 2011 but my programs (as imovie, iphoto, spotify ect) shuts down like all the time and then the computer "dies" and sometimes I have to reformat the computer... Anyone that know why my computes is acting like this? Would be so grateful if someone could help we with this!

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    4. Other issues
    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

  • Viewing brochures "page-by-page" over the computer

Excuse my inexperience, but I am a student intern working on a brochure in InDesign CS4. I used our company's basic template for the brochure, which sets the document up as 2 11"x17" landscape pages. The first page displays the front of the brochure on the right and the back of the brochure on the left, and the second page displays the guts as they would be seen in the print out.
My department wants to upload the brochure I created to our intranet, but they do not want it posted as it was created in InDesign because the first page (with the front and back of the brochure) will confuse people. My question: is there any way to export the document or re-set it up so that the brochure can be viewed over the computer as one would view a printed version? I would love to have an electronic version with the front of the brochure, then the guts, then the back, but would hate to have to redo the whole brochure just for that. I have the entire CS4 Design Premium (if there is another product I need to complete this task). Thank you for any advice!

I'm sure there are plenty of ways to do this but I'll suggest 3 for now
Make a duplicate of your file so you don't mess the original up.
    On the pages panel "Window>Pages"
If you pages panel is showing 4 pages:
You can drag the pages around there. If you have dificulty then you may need to go the fly menu (that's the little triangle in the top right of the panel) and turn off "Allow Document Pages to shuffle".
You should be able to move them to single pages.
If you're pages panel is showing 2 pages:
You will need to go to File>Document Setup. Insert the size of the pages to the final size you need them. Insert the number of pages to be 4.
In your case you said it was 2 11"x17" landscape pages.
So you need 4 pages that are 8.5" x 11 portrait.
Then you need to go about moving the items into position.
    The lazy/quick way:
Start a new document, with the right size and the right amount of pages.
Go to File>Place and locate the original InDesign file.
Place the pages into position. Save as a new name.
The Original InDesign file will now be linked in the Window>Links panel.
To make edits you open the Original file and change whatever needs to be changed. Open your new file and go to Window>Links and update the links.
    Hope that helps.
If you need further or more indepth help just ask.

  • What a pain -on a mac-never had aproblem-loaded a new shuffle with music -will not let me sync itunes store bought songs-will not let me authorize the computer. I have a ipod as well. Is this a block when loading a second device? OR?

In iTunes, do Store->View my AppleID
    Click "Deuthorize ALL"
Then, on any computers you still have, do Store->Authorize this computer.  If there are less than 5, you will have no problem.
You can only do "deauthorize all" once a year, so in the future, if you ever throw a computer away, remember do to "Store->Deauthorize this computer" first.

You may want to wait for others to see this thread who might offer some other suggestions, but you could consider resetting the password. These instructions work for Lion (10.7.x) and Mountain Lion (10.8.x).

  • How do I Uninstall Adobe PSE9?  All I get is an error message, "Error 1316.  The specified account already exists".  Then the Unistaller rolls back and the program just sits there, partially uninstalled and unusable.

I have upgraded to PSE13 and want to unistall PSE9.  When I try to do this all I get is an error message, "Error 1316.  The specified account already exists".  Then the uninstaller rolls back and I am left with a partially uninstalled version that is unusable.  I tried to reinstall the software from the original PSE9 disk but all it tries to do is uninstall the version already on my computer, and this then does the same thing as noted above. How do I completely uninstall PSE9?

  • I have a 1st gen ipad. Want to play Candy Crush. Installed app from app store. I hit play now, I see the board then the pad goes back to the start screen (the one with all the apps displayed). Do I need additional apps to run? Thanks.

I have a 1st generation iPad. Want to play Candy Crush Saga. Installed app from Apple Store. When I tap on the app, I wait a long time while it reads "loading" then I hit "play", I see the board then the ipad goes back to the ipad start screen (the one with all the apps displayed). Is there some additional program I need to play this type of game. I know that space is not an issue as I have very little stored. Thanks.
Just found my answer. Worked perfectly. Instructions very clear.

try uninstalling the app and reinstalling it. u shouldnt need to install anything else but the app itself to get it running. if that doesnt work then update ur software and see if that works.
