HT5429 iOS 6 Maps and Chinese writing every where

Why is it that all the countries, cities etc have the name in English (which I expect) but also above that Chinese characters for I assume the name in Chinese.
Very annoying where can I turn this off?

I must admit, I'm frustrated with Apple's decision. One main reason that I bought a smart phone at all was to be able to more easily navigate the public transportation system in San Francisco and now... things are much less fluid. I feel as though we have gone through a downgrade. Flyover is interesting yet not tremendously useful on a day to day basis while public transportation is everyday for me. It makes me frown to have to sort through a number of 3rd party apps that may or may not have the functionality that google maps had. And while I know I can put a link to the browser version of google maps on my home screen, it is such a loss of resolution and speed that it almost makes me wish that I could uninstall ios 6. Shame. Hopefully one of two things will happen in the very near future, (1) Apple will add public transportation to thier maps app (and bikes for that matter) or (2) Apple will allow Google to make available thier stand-alone app from the app store.
Really a disappointment! The feud between Apple and Google needs to stop for it is hurting consumers, not helping. I liked it so much better when they played well together -- don't hate... integrate!

HT5429 Has anyone reported a problem on iOS 6 Maps and had it fixed?

Within iOS 6 maps, I reported that searching for Holland Park underground station in London yields two locations for the station (one of them being wrong). It has been over three weeks and the issue has not been corrected.

I have seen several things in my city (Portland, Oregon) corrected. However I would sometimes see them correct on the maps app in my iPad days before the correction showed up on my iPhone — or vice versa.
Not saying that they have fixed it (and I just checked from this side of the world and they haven't...) but once they do it could be awhile before you find out.
I think there is some serious caching issues they need to work out as updates roll out.

Firefox tries to load HTTPS on every web site (and no http every where is NOT installed) how can i stop this?

i can see firefox adding https to every single URL i try to go to, if it fails over it goes to none HTTPS. i do "not" have https every where installed, i do however have avast installed, if its a feature of avast i cant find it.

You set the Boolean pref browser.urlbar.autoFill to false on the about:config page to disable auto-fill on the location bar.

IOS 6 maps and public transit?

When will iOS 6 have a public transit option? Not having one is a pain.

I sent this via feedback: One of the best features of maps WAS public transit info. for when I travel. It was excellent and very reliable. Now Apple maps directs you to the App Store to purchase a free or not free separate app for that. Most have marginal reviews...and some have terrible reviews.
Since I began using Apple products in 1988, this is one of the most blatant rugs pulled from under users with no good replacement.. It seems a disgrace to have done this and hardly can be a sign of a forward thinking company. Your developers increased functionality for the car driver and removed it from the rest...very arrogant and disappointing. Please redeem yourselves.

IOS 6 Maps and Power Save

Hi guys;
My screen keeps powering down and locking when using maps. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? It shoud be simple, since Waze has the feature built right into the app.
SInce Maps is supposed to be 'crowd sourced' it seems ridiculous that it locks out unless I want to disable power save mode on my phone. Is there a way to have Maps keep the phone awake, and if not, could that be built into the next update?

A lot of people are having problems with Passbook right now. Maps is a brand new service that has just been activated.
Be patient. Your operating system isn't even a day old. I can't believe that right after downloading the new update, you're already looking for ways to get rid of it. People can never be satisfied.

How do I delete a single, no longer needed route from drop-down list under Directions button? I want to keep the other routes on the list, deleting just one.

I had slightly similar issue: I couldn't see any streets on any of the maps (standard, hybrid, or satellite). But my location services were on and I could see the pins for current location and destination, and even different routes I could take. But no streets! Just a blank grid! Finally, I did a hard reset (press home and power button at same time) and that did the trick! Everything is working fine now!

Use of iOS 6 Maps Images on Websites

I am webmaster for a 501.3(c) "not-for-profit"'s website. The following situation regards iOS 6 "Maps" from Apple, as well as screen shots in general taken on an iPhone (or other iOS device).
We would like to display the iPhone screen shot of a 3D aerial view of our buidling as an image on our public website. The 3D image was generated by iOS 6 Maps and then the screen shot taken with "Home button/Power Button." The image would be viewed by maybe 200 people a month. (But while it's not likely, any site could go viral all of a sudden, right?)
What are the copyright rules for displaying such an image generated by Apple iOS 6 maps? With Google maps, you can apply for a waiver in some cases; in others, Google considers fair use. Unsure? They have a four-step wizard for determining what course of action one should take to properly use such an image.
But what is Apple's policies and procedures for using such images? How do I apply for a license or a waiver of such license? How much would it cost for a not-for-profit, educational use? Any other issues?
Aside from images from Maps, what, if any, are copyright restrictions on other screen shots taken on an iOS device captured with the "Home button/Power Button" combination?

I can tell you from personal copyright infringement experience. (I had a single pic on my site that I once had permission to use, no longer allowed. Getty images contacted me and sued me for $800)
So tread very lightly and research thoroughly.

IOS 5 --maps now in Chinese

Since upgrading my iphone 4G to IOS5, maps are now in chinese characters,,, any ideas?

Hi guys.... same thing here... i did try different scenarios...also restoring with VPN, with ot without simcard etc...
the only way i've found to have the maps back in pinyin was to have a foreigner simcard into the iphone and VPN on.... in all the other combinations the result was always the same: maps in chinese. I guess in IOS5 the choice of the maps' language is related with both location and carrier...
i was able to revert back to 4.3.5....
direct download from apple website of the 4.3.5 firmware... then placing the iphone in DFU mode... once in itunes 10.5 option-click restore.. from there you can select the downloaded firmware (4.3.5) and restore to factory settings... next i did restore from a previous backup.... now everything is back as it used to be....
it seems apple officially validates the previous firmware (just the 4.3.5 not the previous ones).. at least for now... so i would suggest to anyone to revert back since apple still leaves us this possibility... otherwise i guess we have to wait for an update on ios 5 IF this is considered a bug....

This is a "teaser" series to sell his tutorials but it is really good. Just saw it yesterday for the first time.
While all you want is just to place pins, realize that Motion has so much more. All kinds of effects and they can be really customized. Maybe put their street address, contact name, and phone number by the pin?

If you're using the map for, say, deliveries, and use an iPad, what you could do is have a general map of the area imported into Motion, create the pins and whatever, then save (share?) it to the iPad.

If it still shows the icon, Settings, then General, (sixth one down), then international, (third one up from the bottom), then, at the top, has where you can select what language, I think English is at the top of the list. I hope I can help!

Streetview is the property of Google. The new application not using Google services anymore (for many reasons you can find around the web), Streetview is gone too. Just download the free streetview app from the appstore

maps is not working in india.. its not showing me directions between any two places.. but maps of IOS 5.1.1 it works correctly.. and know in google maps its also working correctly so why not in IOS 6 maps..??? what are u doing guyz..?? just for giving new features.. u just messed up everthing..

If you want to tell this to Apple, then do so. There is nobody from Apple on these forums, which are user to user, and not monitored by Apple.
Directions do not work in India because the function is not yet available in India. It is not a secret - see here.
