HT5429 Using iphone 5 Map app?

I am Canadian and going to US.  Can I use my iphone 5 app maps without  having to pay roaming charges?

Google's app requires a data connection, so that won't work. What I mean is this: Apple's new Maps app supports offline use & you can download a pretty large area, like almost all of California as an example. However, anything other than that would require a data connection to get more maps. There are navigation apps in the app store that cover the entire US. You download & store that data locally on your phone, no further data connection needed. I guess it boils down to where you're going, etc.

  • IPhone 5c Maps app crashing

I have had repeated crashes when trying to use the native Maps app that came with my iPhone 5c.  I have done repeated hard resets, restores and searched for other possible solutions.  I've even been in contact with Apple Support, ticket # 731361893, regarding this problem.  When I touch the Maps app icon, the screen goes white and then returns to the start menu.  When I have done a hard reset and restore, the app will work for usually 3 days time or 6-8 uses of the app and it works fine but then after that time or number of uses, it starts crashing again.  I can use Google Maps app and MapQuest app but I have other apps that use the native iPhone Maps app.  When the iPhone Maps app crashes then I'm unable to use my other apps as well.  I have a MotionX GPS Drive app and a DroneMobile app that is used to geo-locate my vehicle.  Both of these apps will not function properly after the iPhone Maps app quits functioning.  I have even restored my iPhone without these apps but the iPhone Maps app continues to crash.  I don't know what else to do but send my iPhone in to have it looked at but then I'm without a mobile phone.

Correction.  I have an iPhone 5s not a 5c.  Excuse the oversight.  Thanks.

  • How to change "home" address on IPhone 5s map app for navigation purposes

How to change "home" address on IPhone 5s map app for navigation purposes

OK I tried that.  I have two apps that need updating and it STILL shows the old Apple ID from the App store.  I even tried logging off iTunes and powering off the phone, then powering it back on and logging in.  Still shows the OLD Apple ID in the app store.  The correct one is showing in the Settings/iTunes.  Any other thoughts?

  • Phottix Ares won't trigger my off camera 430 ex II when using iPhone EOS remote app!

I have a Canon 6D, a canon 430ex II and a set of Phottix Ares transmitter and receiver. I have set up my flash off camera and was planning to use the camera’s wifi capability to take a self portrait with my iPhone EOS remote app, but the flash wouldn't fire at all. When I turned off the app and phisically pressed the shutter it worked but never through the app. Then I thought of mounting the 430 directly onto the camera, used the remote app to shoot wirelessly and I was surprised that it worked!!! I coudn't find the logic behind this and I tried to find an answer everywhere with no hope!
Has anyone gone through tha same experience or have any explanation or solution to this problem? or any alternative solution to get the flash to trigger while shooting wirelessly? thanks.
[Mod note: Moved to "EOS" because issue seems to be with the EOS App. You'll get more exposure here!]
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you are shooting using Live View (through the app) it won't fire the flashes like that.  But if you just use the app to release the shutter and review the pics it will.  It's been awhile since I've used the app, but there's a button or something to go between live view and standard shooting.
That said, I've read that some cameras can work around this by going into the menu and disabling silent shooting, and then Live View will work with simple triggers.  I've never done it as I don't shoot in live view, but I've seen this discussed a lot.  Not sure if the same can be said for the app, but it's worth a shot (no pun intended).

  • Iphone 5 map app blank screen

My built in map application doesnt work. I see the blue dot updating my location, but doesnt show any maps. Just a blank screen. I can pull directions and turn by turn navigation. Everything works but the road/street maps. Does anyone know a fix to this problem?

I am having the exact same problem... no one was able to provide me with a solution to this.
This is a major problem since all apps using location services (such as Facebook, Foursquare, Contacts...) use the apple maps as a default application.
Apple won't let you use anyother map application for your phone. The least they could do is to break the phones free cuz while iphone5 is a great device, some of the software (let's be frank) is not quite there yet. I am so frustrated with this issue

  • HT5429 Why has the maps app gone so sour in IOS6 can I revert to IOS5?

Why has the maps app gone so sour in IOS6.The images at any reasonable magnification are colourless and so fuzzy as to be useless.I loved my old Google based system which even allowed me to look into my house window from the street view function.I wish I had never accepted the invitation to upgrade to IOS6 I would like to go back tithe old system

Google and Apple have apparently parted ways in the 'bundled apps' area.
If you don't like the bundled map app, then your option is to look for a replacement in the app store.

    Nokia N95 v31.0.017 16GB Nokia N91 4GB Nokia N80 2GB Sony Ericsson W850i 4GB

    Hi jasonr2000
    There are several issues here:
Nokia Maps application is already integral part of N95 software, maps can either be downloaded by GPRS (cost implication) or by using Maploader application on PC for transfer to phone.
Nokia took over Smart2go (beta software) and are now in process of releasing Nokia maps v1.1, although any changes to installed application in N95 are most likely to arise through future phone software updates.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Does the standard iphone google map app have a tilt/3D option?

I looked down at my map the other day and I swear it was tilted like a GPS unit would look on a car. I was driving, and it quickly tilted back.  Like Tom Tom or something similar.  I have been trying to replicate it but I can't seem to make it happen again.
Is there a trick or setting I am missing?

i saw the horizon and then it went back to verticle     Who knows.  maybe it was a mistaken glimpse of what is to come.  Thanks for the help though

  • Apple maps has received a poor performance rating just after introduction of the iPhone 5. I am running google maps app on the phone. Siri cannot seem to get me to a specific address. Where does the problem lie? Thanks.

Apple maps has received a poor performance rating just after introduction of the iPhone 5. I am running Google Maps app on the phone. SIRI cannot seem to get me to a specific address. Where does the problem lie? Also can anyone tell me the hierarchy of use between the Apple Maps, SIRI, and Google maps when the app is on the phone? How do you choose one over the other as the default map usage? Or better still how do you suppress SIRI from using the Apple maps app when requesting a "go to"?
I have placed an address location into the CONTACTS list and when I ask SIRI to "take me there" it found a TOTALLY different location in the metro area with the same street name. I have included the address, the quadrant, (NE) and the ZIP code into the CONTACTS list. As it turns out, no amount of canceling the trip or relocating the address in the CONTACTS list line would prevent SIRI from taking me to this bogus location. FINALLY I typed in Northeast for NE in the CONTACTS list (NE being the accepted method of defining the USPS location quadrant) , canceled the current map route and it finally found the correct address. This problem would normally not demand such a response from me to have it fixed but the address is one of a hospital in the center of town and this hospital HAS a branch location in a similar part of town (NOT the original address SIRI was trying to take me to). This screw up could be dangerous if not catastrophic to someone who was looking for a hospital location fast and did not know of these two similar locations. After all the whole POINT of directions is not just whimsical pasttime or convenience. In a pinch people need to rely on this function. OR, are my expectations set too high?
How does the iPhone select between one app or the other (Apple Maps or Gppgle Maps) as it relates to SIRI finding and showing a map route?
Why does SIRI return an address that is NOT the correct address nor is the returned location in the requested ZIP code?
Is there a known bug in the CONTACTS list that demands the USPS quadrant ID be spelled out, as opposed to abreviated, to permit SIRI to do its routing?
Thanks for any clarification on these matters.

siri will only use apple maps, this cannot be changed. you could try google voice in the google app.

  • Protocols or COntent type used by the iPod Maps app

I use the Map app on my iPod Touch (2G) all the time. Today I am on vacation and in spite of the fact that I have good WiFi connectivity, two apps will not function at all: The NY Times reader and the Apple Maps app. While you can use Safari to bring up the NY Times website (http://www.nytimes.com) and Google maps (http://maps.google.com), you cannot bring up http://mobile.nytimes.com in Safari.
I believe the local WatchGuard Firewall at this resort is filtering out certain types of content it believes may be somehow destructive. I can see the error message: Unsafe content type "application/xhtml+xml" reported when attempting to access mobile.nytimes.com
As far as the Maps app goes, one cannot bring up any bookmark nor determine one's current location, viz., "Your location cannot be determined." after some delay. I understand that in certain circumstances the message simply implies that the WiFi access point in use may never have been mapped, but the inability to look up any known good arbitrary address implies to me a communications problem.
Anyone know what protocol and/or content type may be is use by the Maps app?

If you want to create a message that has both plain text and html versions of the main
message content, you want to create a multipart/alternative message, as described in
    this FAQ entry.
If that message also needs to have attachments, you should embed the multipart/alternative
part in a multipart/mixed message, along with the attachment parts.
If the html part needs to reference images included with the message, you would replace
the text/html part with a multipart/related part, as described in this FAQ entry.
Combining all these techniques together can seem a bit complicated unless you understand
recursion! :-) Remember that in addition to creating a body part with a text content type,
you can create a body part with a multipart content type, and use that body part in the same
places you would use a text body part.
As for making sure your message isn't marked as spam, well, you're probably asking in the
wrong place, but the simple answer is to make sure that it's actually not spam! Usually the
structure of the message isn't as important as the content of the message.

  • TS1700 How to make google is the reference in maps app instead of tomtom?

I was wondering when I used a friend iPhone's maps app as I saw google is the reference in his default maps app
While tomtom is the reference in my IPhone, so I was asking of I can change it to google?

Actually, maybe the tom tom database is OK for Europe and the US, but I am in India and even in New Delhi, streets are missing where in google maps it is complete... If apple cannot produce a correct and full database as google does, they should at least be honnest enough to let the user the possibility of choosing the defoult database!

  • Can't turn off 'Current Location' icon in Maps app

Model: 4GB 1st Gen iPhone +(not experiencing any other issues except this)+
*Issue Began:* Shortly after update to 2.0.1
    Frequency: Always
    *Feature Concerned:*
In the Maps app, you can press the button on the lower left corner of the screen to make it show your current location. When you do, it asks the standard "Maps wants to use your current location" message to which you can allow or deny. If you allow, the button turns blue and a little blue circle with cross-hair pops up to show where you are. Pressing the button again will remove the location marker until you repeat the process.
    Problem:
Within the first few uses of the Maps app after the 2.0.1 update, I had used the feature described above, however it won't turn off. If I push the button to turn it off, the button will turn grey as if it is off, but the marker does not go away. Every time I open the map, it searches for and then shows my location without me turning it on and without asking first. This slows the performance of the map until it is done finding me which can take from 3-15 seconds.
    *I've Tried:*
    1. Turn feature on and off again= button goes from grey to blue but location always shown and no dialog.
    2. Returning to Home screen then back to Map= button still off and still finds location, no dialog.
    3. Force-Quitting then re-launch Maps= same result as above.
    4. Cycle Airplane mode= same result as above.
    5. Cycle Power= same result as above.
    6. Restore iPhone using backup= behavior returns to normal, but first time feature is used again the problem is re-established.
    7. All combinations of above= same.
    *Ideal Solution:*
Fix the problem without having to delete applications or restore to factory default (ie. loose all my application data). I guess I'm hoping someone else had and fixed this issue, 'cause I'm not leaving much room for troubleshooting am I... :-p

    *"I've Tried" Additions:*
    8. Turn off "Location Services" (Settings->General)= when LS is off, Maps does not automatically show my location, but if I push the button it gives me the dialog and the problem is re-established (doing so will also cause LS to turn back on).
    9a. Turn Location Services off
9b. Launch Maps to verify marker is now gone button is grey
9c. Turn Location Services back on
9abc= upon returning to Maps, the button is still off but it once again immediately searches for my location with no dialog.
