  • Text rendering on MacBook Pro differs from PowerBook.

It appears that various applications use a different text rendering technique on the MacBook Pro than on the Powerbook. Camino for instance uses sub-pixel rendering on the PowerBook but standard anti-aliasing on the MacBook Pro. So do Word and MSN and others.
At first I thought it had something to do with the app being universal or not. But Camino is supposed to be a universal binary.
Anyone has a clue about why this difference?
(You can easily see if sub-pixel or standard rendering is used by zooming in with option-cmd-8. Standard rendering has only shades of gray. Sub-pixel rendering uses colors. More on OS X text rendering can be found here: http://daringfireball.net/2003/11/panthertextrendering.)

First, I wonder - does it look good or bad? Or, is this simply a comment that it is different?
Second, and I'll bet this is your answer, is that the difference is most likely due to the type of video card being used. I notice that nothing effects rendering of fonts like the type of video card.
I am interested because I will be doing lots of text work on my MBP, and would like to know if there is an issue with this. I had a notebook (Toshiba) about three years ago that the text was soft and nothing I could do would make it sharper. I ended up dumping the notebook and getting something else. MS Cleartype seems to work to some degree in Windows machines, but I don't see anything like that on my PB. However, the PB is fine as it...

  • Text messages on Macbook pro

How do I get text messages from my phone to my macbook pro?

    HI,
If you mean SMS messages you can't.
That is not part of the "Sync" function of the iMessages side of the Messages app on both Mac and iOS device.
Basically the iOS version can send iMessages when it and the recipient are on Wifi.
At other times it will send SMS messages (if this is enabled on both devices).
However only the iMessages ones will sync to other iOS device and the Mac that are using the same Apple ID.
NOTE the "Sync" is only Display on All Devices and each is then independent of anything you do to the messages on one device.

  • Text Size on MacBook Pro

I recently switched over from a Windows XP machine and bought a MacBook Pro 2.2 ghz. The screen is great and it's set at it's optimal resolution; however, text in the mail program and a few other programs are a strain on the eye. Is their some setting that I am unaware of to bump up text sizing other then lowering the resolution. I tried doing that last night and the text did become bigger but the quality of text wasn't as crisp as in the higher resolution.
In Windows there is an option to config text size separately from resolution (which I understand wll be in Leopard), is there someting closely similar in Tiger?
Also, I see in Safari you can always bump up teh viewing size of text but yopu need to do it each time you start up the program.
I would like to hear what everyone else is setting their notebooks at.
    Thanks.

Learn to love "view options" and "preferences" and "options".
In every app on a mac and in the finder, there is somewhere that you can set your preferred font and font size.
Which sizes and which fonts are something that you should experiment with to see what suits you and your eyes.
I use small font sizes but that is what suits me; you need to choose your own. Play with the apps and look at what is available to you.
(the standard font sizes in windows apps were so large that they were crazy when I had to infrequently use a windows machine.)

  • View text messages on Macbook Pro

Hi there... I just recently purchased the Macbook Pro and need help figuring out a couple things. I wanted to know how to set up the messages icon on your desktop on your Macbook Pro. Also I was wondering if it is possible to view and send your text messages from your phone on your Macbook Pro? If you could tell me how to do both I would be grateful! As you can probably tell I am a Windows user and need help figuring this out.... Thanks much!

It's called iMessage and you can only do it if you're using two different Apple accounts on your phone and Mac. As for the iMessage icon, do you want to change the icon itself or what?

    Hi gio-vio!
It seems like you are trying to view Safari in your picture. If this happens whenever you open Safari, you may find some helpful information in the following article:

If this is happening from the moment you boot into your user, then you may want to troubleshoot by attempting a Safe Boot:

  • Sync Text files from MacBook Pro to Iphone

Is there any way to synchronize text files from my computer to my Iphone? I don't have Internet with my computer and I do have with my iPhone. I try to write a letter with my Mac and pass it to my iPhone Mail program (maybe to the Drafts folder) to be able to send it by the Phone.
    Thank you.
    Antonio

Doubtful that Leopard will provide for the syncing of email messages between your computer and the iPhone. Leopard Mail may provide for the syncing of Notes and To Do's between the Mail application and the iPhone since Leopard Mail will incorporate Notes and To Do's.
If you don't mind me asking, why don't you have internet access as home - no high speed access available or too expensive? A dial-up connection would be better than nothing and would provide for the automatic syncing of an IMAP account's server stored mailboxes and messages between your computer and the iPhone.

  • Send text from Macbook Pro

I am trying to send a text from my MacBook Pro to a cell phone in the United States through iChat. I am signed in through my gmail and it won't let me send SMS messages. I am only able to do that if I am signed in with an AIM account? Help!

Send a text to the email address associated with the Apple ID used to sign into Messages on the Mac.

  • Can I text with my iphone4 through my macbook pro

  • Can I text to an iphone using mountain lion and macbook pro?

Just wondering if I can text from my macbook pro using mountain lion with the new messages app? What i've read seems to say that you can text to any imessages user.  Does this mean that a text can go from my messages app in mountain lion on my computer to an iphone using imessage? Thanks!

    Hi,
You have to have an Apple ID on Messages on the Mac to get it to start.
Once that is done it will also tend to find all the iChat Accounts you may have had.
    Uploaded with Skitch!
I have several names that have "me" in the name that Messages thinks are iMessages accounts (see icons).
I also have AIM (AOL) accounts.
My Google ID is a Jabber account.
The iPhone has to be set up in Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID
As has been mentioned in this thread the Messages option has to be on.
A New Message icon starts things and then you chose a Contact for iMessages
    Uploaded with Skitch!
It indicates if you are using iMessage or AIM or Jabber to Contact people.
The "To" spot becomes a drop down when a  name is there (you can then change to an Apple ID or Phone number or Switch to an AIM Screen Name or Jabber ID if the Contact (Address Book) Card has the details
    Uploaded with Skitch!
As you can see I have an @mac.com and an @me.com name logged in and could switch to AIM logins to contact "myself" as a Buddy (rather than an iMessage Contact)

  • Transfer documents from MacBook Pro to iPhone and send ?

In a place where I have access to the 3G network but no other Internet access, I use Mail with my iPhone.
How do I transfer text from the MacBook Pro to the iPhone to be able to send it ?.
If there was an application enabling the use of the iPhone as a modem for the MacBook a transfer would not be needed...
On the iPhone, I have MobileFiles which allows the transfer of files from and to my MobileMe account, Files Lite and AirSharing allowing transfers from and to the MacBook Pro. But for these two last applications I don't see a way to send the files stored on the iPhone as attached documents (and there is no copy/paste yet on the iPhone).
And I don't see a way to upload the MacBook file to the folder of MobileFiles
Do I miss something really simple ?
    Thanks.

I use a desktop app called phoneview. It will let you sync notes to and from the computer. You can write a note (say cut and paste from a doc) then sync to the phone, it shows as a note, then you can email the note to anyone. It's a shame it can't be done with Airsharing.

  • Macbook pro and iphone 4 mail synchronization

i read so many articles on how to do this, but mine doesn't work. I have the new macbook retina and iphone 4
i'm trying to change the protocol from POP to IMAP.
when i try to make a new mail account, i do not see IMAP protocol selection or any other selections but POP.
It seems that other people have the selections.
what should i do to make IMAP mail accounts?

To text using your MacBook pro instead of your iPhone use Mail. The address you need is the address of the phone you are texting to. So your iPhone if you have AT&T service is: [email protected]
