HT5500 iPhone and iCloud -Contacts

I just deleted over 300 contacts in iCloud because I want them deleted off my iphone. When I backup to the cloud, will it update my phone, or will the phone update to iCloud and add all 300 contacts back into iCloud?

Backing up doesn't affect the data at all. If you deleted them from iCloud, and you're syncing the phone's contacts with iCloud, they should disappear from the phone shortly.

It is asking if you want to delete all the iCloud contacts off your Mac (not in iCloud).
Delete them. If you keep them you will have duplicates when you turn it back on. You will have the copy you kept and another copy when they resync with iCloud

Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.

All apps and purchases are linked to your apple ID, so you can't share them across 2 devices that are using different apple id's, it won't work. the purchases that are on your mac at the moment will only work with the apple id they were brought with.
the only thing thats possible to share is purchased music. you have to first covert it to mp3 within itunes, then your bf can import it into his own itunes library and sync with his phone.

If you log into Icloud.com, are all your contacts correct there? If the answer is Yes, I would then turn contacts OFF on your phone, and then turn them back on. Do not merge, but replace with Icloud content.
This is usually the quickest way to edit a bunch of contacts, through the web interface.

The data in my iMac address book and iCloud contacts are different. How can I get my iCloud data to accruately reflect that of my iMac address book? It appears to be an initial synchronization issue. New entries synchronize fine. Appears that initial entries in my Address Book are not showing up in the iCloud Contacts list. Hense, My iPhone coantacts don't match those in my iMac.

Nuts isn't it. This seems to have been an issue snce dAY 1. iT FROSTS ME THAT THERE IS NO SIMPLE QUICK WAY TO UPDATE OR CORRECT the data in both programs simultaneously.. Thats why i decided to just put everytning into the i cloud address brook, and let the one other sit and rot.
then i got smart and said, why don't I delete the outlookaddress book files. and save on confusion.
result - both addresses books and their contents became invisible to outlook.!!!!!! and I can find no way to correct this...to go back to the imperfect world that was.
I did get the outlook contact s back from an archive - but any thing from icloud has become inaccessible from outlook. (fortunately i can get the vcard infformation directly from icloud. but I can't access it from outlook mail.... means no replying, forwarding etc - and a time swallowing nuisance..

When I merged my iPhone and iPad contact info., I lost all of the names that my messages were posted under. All conversations are now posted under phone numbers.

When setting up some iCloud info., agreed to merge iPhone and iPad contact info., and now most of my iPhone messages are listed by phone numbers, rather than by the person's name. Some of the names eventually showed up, but not many, and most of those now have the husband and wife's name together or just the family name (Millers, Smiths, etc.).

I'm not sure what you mean about downloading photos with iPhoto being double handling, but you can download direct to a folder with Image Capture. Image Capture can also be used to delete photos from the Camera Roll on the iPhone or iPad (preferrably after they are downloaded).
You can remove the photos you synced from your phone with iTunes by syncing again with an empty folder, That will delete all the photos that were previously synced that way, replacing them with the contents of the empty folder (that is, nothing). This will not effect photos takes with the camera on your iPhone.

I seem to have deleted all my contacts from my iphone 4. I have them on icloud and my mac but can't get them to transfer back to my phone. Any ideas??

If you are having trouble with Contacts on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) and iCloud Contacts, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
Make sure you've updated to iOS 5 or later and that your iCloud account is configured correctly in Settings. For instructions on setting up iOS for iCloud, see iCloud Setup.
Make sure your iOS device is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com and iCloud.com in Safari. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud Contacts will not update in the Contacts application. Click here for more information about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website from your iOS device to test if you are online as is necessary for the iCloud Contacts. This also tests if the ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Contacts requires port 443 access to iCloud in order to push and pull updates to and from the iCloud Contacts servers.
If recent changes simply don't appear in Mobile Contacts, try refreshing by tapping Groups in the top-left corner of Contacts, and then tapping the Refresh button in the top-left corner of the Groups window.
Quit and restart the Contacts app on your iOS device
Press the Home button.
Double-press the Home button to open the Multitasking menu.
Touch and hold the Contacts icon until it jiggles.
Tap the "X" to remove it from the list.
Press the Home button to get back to your Home screen. Wait a minute before reopening the Contacts app.

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. This requires action before the device is lost/stolen. If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream when enabled will only add photos from the camera roll that were taken post photostream activation. (Photostream does not currently share video)
Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.

Does Outlook 2010 sync out to iPhone and iCloud?

Does Outlook 2010 support calendar entries to iCloud and iPhone? I made test entries on iPhone 4 and iCloud that sync. But entries on Outlook don't seem to sync on iPhone and iCloud. Outlook entries do sync to the iCloud calendar within Outlook but not out to the iPhone etc. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone have any info on this? Thank you!

On the iPad tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Calendars off then back on then reset the iPad.

IPhone and Gmail contacts do sync - but not Apple Address Book

Hi,
iPhone and Gmail contacts sync just fine. Only my Apple Address Book do not sync at all - neither with the iPhone nor Gmail.
I have activated syncing options with gmail in both Address Book and iTunes iPhone settings.
Any ideas?

Have you noticed if it's a specific group that is not syncing correctly, or is it random contacts from all groups? If it's just a specific group, you may need to delete that group in Address Book and recreate it.
If it's random contacts from all groups and if all of the contacts you want on the iPhone are in Address Book, you can just select "Contacts" from the Advanced section down at the bottom of the Info tab. That will replace all contacts on the iPhone with those that you have selected to sync from Address Book.

Try settings -- messages -- send & recieve and see if your email and phone number are in there and if there is only a check mark next to your email address. If so just check off your phone number and try that.
