HT5538 sharing apple id with children

My son uses my apple account and is having trouble adding an email so he can access imessage and facetime with his own email rather than use my email. Is this possible?

Yes, you can add another email address. and uncheck the Apple ID email address. If you have trouble adding the new email address:

  • How do share an apple ID with children but have them not get your e-mail???

How do I share an apple ID with children on other ios's but have them not get my e-mail??

You can't. Access to your Apple ID gives them access to all of your iCloud account, not just part of it.

  • How to create a shared Apple ID with iCloud email address for household?

I would like to create a shared Apple ID with iCloud email address that wife and I can share and access from separate devices? A shared household iCloud email address would be useful for email contact for creating/managing bill accounts for utilities, school for kids, bill pay etc…  I currently have my own Apple ID on my MBP.
    Thanks!

If you mean that you would like to create a shared iCloud account with a shared iCloud email address and you already have an iCloud account of your own, you can do that by creating a new Apple ID (see https://appleid.apple.com/account), then use the ID to set up a secondary iCloud account on your Mac by going to System Preferences>Internet Accounts (or Mail,Contacts,Calendars)>iCloud and signing in with the new ID.  You can then turn enable Mail in this account to create the shared email account.  Secondary accounts are more limited than primary iCloud accounts, and will only sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and Notes.
Once the account is created, it can be added to iOS devices by signing in with the ID in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud.
Or, if your only interest is in having a shared email account, you might consider just setting up a free Gmail account to share.

  • Sharing Apple ID with Family

    Hi all,
I have a little problem I hope you can help with. I have a few Apple devices in the family (iPhones, iPads, Mac's etc) and at the moment my perosnal email, SMS, calendar and reminders pop up on all devices. I would still like to share apps and music but I would very much like to keep everything else private as it is a work phone.
How do I solve this problem?
    Best Regards,
    George

On each device, make sure the AppleID you wish to share is assigned to itunes and app Stores (Settings App > iTunes&AppsStores), but not for other services such as iCloud, Mail, Messages and FaceTime. You may need to create an appleId for each of the family members for these functions.

  • Sharing Apple TV with two iTunes Accounts

I have an iMac with an iTunes Account that is synced with an Apple TV. When I purchase movies on the Apple TV it bills my iTunes Account.
My Wife also has an iTunes Account separate from mine, and wishes to purchase movies on Apple TV and have the fee deducted from her her account.
Is it possible to have your Apple TV bill more than one account?

You will have to log into your wife itune account but from the TV.
    Settings, itunes etc......

  • I was sharing apple id with husband on our iPhones but now we want to each have our own, how can i do this without having all his info on his phone be lost?

When husband and i got our iPhones we shared the same Apple ID but not that we have added an iPad and Mac he wants his own apple ID how can I change the apple id/icloud to his own without deleting all his phone and resetting?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You both need your own iCloud accounts. I would set up the second iCloud account and get all the data showing in both accounts, before trying to delete anything. You will need to delete the unwonted contacts and appointments etc manually.

  • Sharing Apple IDs with friends, is it legal?

So, you can activvate your apple ID on 5 computers and 10 devices in total, but as far as I know iOS devices only count if they are synchronized with a computer that is activated for your apple ID. Is there a limitation for downloading purchased apps on iOS devices?
And in what cases is it even legal to use your apple id on other devices? Are you only allowed to download purchased apps on family members' devices or is it legal to log in on the iphone of a stranger you met on the street who asked for directions you couldn't give him and download a 50 dollar navigation app you allready purchased without paying again?

Well the stranger was just an example to see if its legal, but on the other hand, if he gives me his phone, i log into my account without him seing my password and i logout right after the download he will only know my id's mail adress and not my password, so whats the harm?
and as for friends, i could create a new account, without credit cards information and give the account's mail and password to my friends. when i found an app i want everybody to have i'll just gift it from my original account to the new account and everybody can download and later update it but nobody can spend my money. that would work wouldn't it?
sure only 5 people can synch the apps to the computer, but thats not necessary anyway right? you can't use the apps on the computer and you can download them whenever you want on your ios device. at least as long as the app still exists on the store and you have a wifi-connection (or 3g and the app is less than 10mb).

  • HT201269 Hi. I have shared an Apple ID with my children for some time.  As they are getting older they do not wnat me seeing all their messages, photos etc so want their own accounts.  How can they access their purchased music and apps on the new account

Hi. I have shared an Apple ID with my children for some time.  As they are getting older they do not wnat me seeing all their messages, photos etc so want their own accounts.  How can they access their purchased music and apps on the new account please?

    Yes.
On their iOS devices, under Settings>iTunes & App Store, they should use your Apple ID. When they log into iCloud, iMessage and Facetime, they should use their personal Apple IDs.

  • Switching from shared Apple ID to separate Apple IDs with Family Sharing?

My family (me, wife and 2 kids) all share the same Apple ID. We share it for everything (App Store, iCloud, etc.). We did this because I didn't want to purchase the same music or apps multiple times. This has worked well for several years. But with iOS 8, we can use Family Sharing, but not if we share an Apple ID (at least not when using a shared Apple ID on iCloud). So my question is, how do we switch from a shared account to separate accounts using Family Sharing, while not losing access to any apps or music? I've seen many previous posts (pre-iOS 8) state that I can create new Apple IDs for my wife and 2 kids, then just use them for iCloud and leave the App Store associated with our existing shared Apple ID, but then when they go to update apps, they'll need to enter my password (which my kids do not know, since they don't currently need the password to updates apps with the shared Apple ID. When they want to purchase a new app, be it free or paid, they have to come to my wife or me to enter the password.)
What I'm think is this. Let me know if this would work:
    1) Create new Apple IDs for my wife and kids.
    2) Before changing anything on their iPhones, go into my phone (which will remain on our existing Apple ID) and turn on Family Sharing and add them to my family so we can share purchases.
    3) Once Family Sharing is enabled, change their iCloud login to their new Apple ID accounts. That enables Family Sharing on their devices and they'll be part of my family.
None of the above steps solves for the "you must enter Dad's Apple ID password to update your apps" problem. So my question is, should I also change their App Store account to their new Apple IDs as well? If you say that won't help (because apps will always be associated with the Apple ID they're originally purchased with), then I don't understand how Family Sharing works when you buy apps. In other words, will Family Sharing enable us to share apps that we already downloaded, or just new apps?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Jason

You should be able to have purchases from more than one Apple ID on one device (up to five I think).  When you create the new Apple ID and just leave the apps already on the ipad alone, you shouldn't have any problems.

Leave her ID alone and create a new one for yourself with your email address.

  • I would like to create separate apple Ids for my kids devices as I'm now sharing my ID with them

I currently have 5 apple devices: IPAD/IPhone for me and ITouchs for my kids. We're all sharing my user ID and I'd like for them to be able to set up their own ID. Problem is, it seems they need to have a credit card account to do so??

If you want to create a apple ID with no creditcard, you have to do the register of the apple ID, by clicking "download" on a free app. and then sign up.
thats the only way to get the option.  If its stil available, i think it was a loophole!
And the date of birth you put must be over thirteen years..

  • HT5625 I have shared an apple id with my daughter over the past several years.  She is in college now and our music tastes aren't quite the same.  Is there a way that I can extract my music to a new user id without closing out my daughters?

You can't transfer music purchased from the iTunes store to another ID.  You can, of course, create a new ID and start using that for purchasing your music.  Just create the ID, then go to Settings>iTunes & App Store, tap the existing ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID.
If your issue is that music purchased by her on her device is automatically downloading to yours, you can turn this off by going to Settings>iTunes & App Store, and turning Music off under Automatic Downloads.  Then you can continue to share the same iTunes ID without continuing to automatically download each other's purchased music.

    Howdy Denise,
It is not possible to combine Apple IDs. See this article -
Frequently asked questions about Apple ID - Apple Support
You can set up Family Sharing using one of your Apple IDs by following the directions in this article -
    iCloud: Family Sharing
Note in particular that in order to set up Family Sharing you need a Mac computer running Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).
This article provides a good overview of Family Sharing and what you can do with it -
