HT5556 Is my 'German' gift card valid for my French e-mail and account?

I have received in Germany some iTunes gift cards. When trying to use them under my French e-mail address, it does not seem to be possible. Why?

All iTunes gift cards are country-specific - they can only be used in their country of issue and only iTunes accounts that are based in that country. All the cards that I've had here in the UK say that they are only valid in the UK store.
