I have an old iMac. Not sure of the operating system but the install disks say OS X. The computer will not boot anymore and all I keep getting is to restart and when I do I keep getting the same message. I do have the install disks but I can't get the computer to install, or for that matter, read the disks. I would like to rebuild the computer from these disks so that I can continue to use this computer. There is no need to save anything on the computer as I backed it up months ago. i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?

It sounds like you are wanting to copy your content from your iPad to your computer. You can trasnfer your iTunes purchases from the device to the computer with the following article:

If there is no content in the iTunes library, nothing will be synced to your device, and your device will be empty.

Am I the only fool who clicked on update all when my iPad told me updates were available? Two updates loaded just fine, but the other four never updated and now lie useless and grayed out. I had 6 Apps that needed updating on my iPad original. I hit "Update All" and that ruined four Apps. They won't download the updates, nor will they launch and be useable either. I fixed it by going through a few steps using iTunes while hooked to my computer.

I have the same issue with one App in the App Store. The app is installed and current. But the App Store says I have an update. I tried restarting. No help.

I tried to get my messages with my computer and the only messages coming through is a newsletter from Thalia - a german bookstore. I can get my mails with the iphone - but of course I need to use my laptop as well for the communication.

I would recommend saving a copy of your profile; see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb
copy the folder to an separate folder or external drive.
Then you can reload or update TB. The new TB should still use the profile you had before, but at least you have a backup position.

Hi everyone, I need some help big time. I was currently running the IOS 6.0.1 on my iphone 4 and I could sync and transfer music to my phone via my iTunes account. The release of iTunes 11.0.2 and iOS 6.1.2 for my iPhone 4, seems to have sorted everything. I can now sync music, films and photos between my MacBook and my phone.
I was dubious about blindly doing the updates but decided they couldn't really mess up any further functionality so I went for it and it's sorted now.

I have changed the dates of photos in an event, but the event is still showing the original dates.

I have a batch of old photographs that I have recently scanned and imported into iPhoto 11. In iPhoto I changed the dates to the dates when the original photos were taken (between 1971 and 1976) using the "Adjust Date and Time" and "Batch Change" menu options. This works fine as each photo now shows the date on which it was taken rather than the scan date which appeared when the photos were imported. However, the event itself still shows the scan dates so it does not appear in the right place when sorting by date. I'm finding this most perplexing because I have many scans of old photos (one goes back to 1900) and have been able to change dates of individual photos and the event has followed suit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Within minutes of posting this question I fixed the problem. It's just a matter of holding down the Option and Apple keys while launching iPhoto and then repairing the library database from the list of options that pops up on the screen. Easy really. Just took me two days to work it out.

If you are in the USA and have the latest iTunes, you can redownload music via the iCloud beta.
When you do an update, the first step is making a backup. However, the backup does not include the apps themselves or music or some other things. Those get synced back to the iPod from your iTunes library at the end of the update. If those items are not in your library they can't be synced to your iPod.
You should be able to get the contacts and similar stuff back since those are in backup if you have a backup made at the first stage of the update or earlier. Go to Preferences in iTunes, and go to the Devices tab and see the date of the backup(s). If the backup contains the data you want, restore the iPodfrom backup.

The backup that itunes makes when syncing does not include music or apps. This is one of the many reason that you should always maintain a backup copy of your computer.

Help! Having Serious Issues and need to save my data!!!

This is probably going to be a long post, and I apologie in advance, but before I give up completely, I need to see if there's anything that I can do to save the data on my computer. Also, I'm writing this from work and don't have access to the system right now, so I'm going to have to rely on my questionable memory to relay the situation.
Since the battery update was installed, I was having intermittent issues with my MBP battery - when I was fully charged, it only showed about 1:45 of time left (down from a usual 3:00 or so). When it would get down to about 50 minutes left, the system would shut off with no warning. I was about to take the system into the Apple Store to get the battery replaced last week, but just to make sure, I followed the instructions to reset the battery and after that was done, it seemed like the battery was fine (showed up as about 3:00 fully charged). But... the system started working very slowly.
As a result, I decided to try to back up the system (I use SuperDuper and backup to an external USB drive). The backup failed mid-stream and my backup file was now useless (that's the last time I use the erase before backing up option). So now I don't have a backup of my data (all of my data is on that laptop).
I tried running Disk Utility, by booting from the installation DVD, to Repair the disk and it stopped with an invalid node error. I tried again, but no joy. A third time, it appears to have completed. However, now when I boot the system, not only is it really slow, but it boots into some unfamiliar linux prompt ("I don't have a name#:", or something like that.
Since I still think that there was a file system problem, I bought a copy of DiskWarrior 4. However, I don't want to wait for the bootable CD, so I tried to install the OS on the external USB drive so I could run it from there. Everytime I tried to install to the USB drive, I got a kernel panic when the IT Tunes install script was loaded. Every time. I tried removing the second (add-on) RAM stick, removing the battery, etc. No joy. Finally on about the 10th attempt, this time on battery power only (no power cable connected), I managed to get the OS to install on the USB drive.
Okay, so now I can boot to the USB drive. I installed Disk Warrior 4 and ran it on the internal hard drive. Kernel Panic. Every time I've run it (error is about unlocking mutex). Even more frustrated now, I tried to backup the disk again (since all my data is on there, I can't afford to lose any of it). No joy. The backup (using SuperDuper or CloneCopyX) fails at various spots. I have some folders on the drive that I tried to copy off (about 7GB) that contain disk images and the like. That copy failed.
So now, I have un-backupable (is that a word) hard drive that I can't repair without kernel panics (although, now as I write this, I didn't try DW without the power cord). And what I need to know is if anyone can think of anything that I haven't tried to save my user data off of the system before I have to take it in to the Apple Store and potentially lose everything that's on it.
My number 1 concern right now is losing the data on the drive.
Can anyone help me at all?

You may not have the luxury of having another Mac but you must know someone who does. You need to boot your Mac into target disk mode. This is going to be your best bet as far as saving your files. Keep in mind that everytime you mess with this computer you are further endangering your data. Also, once your Mac is booted as a target disk, it may be possible to mount it on a windoze computer just to copy your files to another drive. I used to have one here and if i still did I would try this for you but I "offed" it in favor on running windoze (Parallels) on my MBP. But, one way or another, you need to get next to another computer.
