HT5570 Enabling two-step authentication broken? stuck in a loop

I'm trying to enable two-step authentication. I go to the My Apple ID webpage. Log in. Click on Security and Privacy. Answer my security questions. Click on "get started" under two-step authentication.
The first time I did this, I got a message saying that there was a 3-day waiting period in order to enable 2-step. Weird, but okay. I come back 3 days later, and now I log in, get started with two-step auth, and I immediately get looped back to the log-in screen with an error message that says "We're sorry, but your Apple ID account information can not be modified using the My Apple ID website."
umm, how else would I modify my Apple ID account if not through the "MY APPLE ID WEBSITE"?
Is anyone else encountering this? is it just a bug?
thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Jennifer,
I just figured my problem out - and maybe it might relate to yours also. I had two email addresses linked to my Apple ID account. I could log into my Apple ID account using either of these two email addresses. The first time the 2 Step Verification failed I logged into my Apple ID using email #1. So I logged into "Manage My Apple ID"  using my email #2 and selected "Password and Security" then "2 Step Verification" and went through the whole process again (it didn't make me wait three days) and it worked!  It could be that the 2 Step Verification process has to be done using all the email addresses associated with your Apple ID. Of course if you only have one email address associated with your Apple ID.... then ignore all my posts :-)
Regards,
dc

  • Enable two step authentication?

    How would I go about enabling two step authentication? I need to do this as I believe my account may have been compromised, I have already changed my password but I want extra security from this happening again.

    You can unjoin your Skype account from your Microsoft account but that won't disable your Skype account.  Not having an account joined or TV/Phone account enabled is the only way to eliminate the single authentication of a Skype account from a Microsoft account.   You can abandon your old account and clear out personal info from a severed account but you can't add a second form of authentication to a legacy Skype account.

    Then 2 step verification is not available in Bahrain if it is not on the list.

  • HT5570 When I  enable two step verification , do i need a code

    i have enabled two step verification and my iPhone 5s is a trusted device
    now my iPhone 5c I'm login into iCloud and not asking me for verification
    just my email and password , i think one time it asked me for good and now it does not
    My question is does it only ask for the first time or new Device login in to iCloud
    and when i go to appleid.com it asks me every time for a code

    I've not been involved with Google Voice, which presumably is in effect a redirection service? -  but I would have thought that you needed to give the number of an actual phone. It can be a landline phone if you have one which will accept text messages - I have this enabled and it works perfectly well.

  • HT5570 Cannot enable two-step verification

    Hi,
    I am Vietnam. When I try to enable two-step verification, I have been asked to provide credit card number and security code (cvc) to verify my identity, I did it, but I always get an error message that security code is invalid, my payment info is correct and had been verified. Could you please help me on this, what's wrong here? Thanks.

    Is the address on your iTunes account in exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :
    If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorisations have the correct information on file.
    And/or try contacting iTunes support : http://www.apple.com/ support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Apple ID two step authentication - SMS option not available to receive verification code

    Hi apple community,
    First time poster, so be nice and let me know if this is the wrong forum
    When signing on to my apple ID account, with two step authentication enabled, I am prompted to send a verification code to my device.
    Now, my device was actually replaced under warranty so when attempting to send the verification code, I do not receive anything.
    I have checked Find My Phone is enabled and working.
    As I understand it now, the verification code is sent as a device message so if you replace your device, you have to re-register your new trusted device for apple ID two step authentication.
    When signing in, I do not have the option to send a text message (i.e. an SMS) to my mobile number.
    Has anyone experience this and resolved it? (and yes, Apple Support have tried to help me with no success)
    FB

    Ditto.  For whatever reason, my cell cannot receive the SMS code from Apple. I'm located in Mexico - but I've done 2-step authentication in the past without problem.  Phone number triple-checked and accurate.
    And of course, y iPad won't connect to our office WiFi for some reason (stupid D-link routers, apparently)....
    A real pain when I can't log-in to my office iMac to access iCloud mail....

  • Two-step authentication too small

    Apple, would you please make two-step authentication larger on the iPhone screen?

    You'd need to address this with Apple as these forums are user to user only; you could call or send them feedback:

  • Does iMessage imperil two-step authentication?

    It seems that the new iMessage service is a complete lack of security for anyone relying on their iPhone as part of a two-step authentication process.
    I was just re-logging into some secure sites, such as Google, that require two-step authentication, and the authentication number pops up on the screen of the iMac or iPad I'm using, apparently destroying any value in having the information supplied separately to my iPhone.
    I have had to turn off the whole iMessage service now so that my access to secure sites is not so easily breached. Apparently anyone with access to my computer or iPad easily bypasses the security process.
    I don't understand how this update doesn't leave everyone who relies on two-step authentication with an iPhone using SMS messages with validation codes from being completely compromised.

    You'd need to address this with Apple as these forums are user to user only; you could call or send them feedback:

  • Do any of the location and two-step authentication services work without IPOD WiFi?

    IPOD Touch 4g, IOS 6.01
    I signed up for two-step authentication but I now realize that all the necessary location services only work through WiFi.
    I don't use WiFi at home and only connect my IPOD directly to the PC whenever I want to use Itunes or manage it.
    Is there any process to setup location services and two-step authenticate through a PC internet connection?
    Thanks

    I think you are going to find the WiFi saps that good life right out of it -- it will also run hotter with WiFi on.
    I did some informal testing on this myself... the best battery life I get is with WiFi turned off and only turned back on when needed to surf the net. I use EDGE for e-mail.
    Today was my first "real use" day... It charged last night and was fully charged this morning. I texted quite a bit. I sent a bunch of e-mails. I called my husband via bluetooth. My daughter called several times to check in. I called a few work contacts for brief convos. I browsed the internet for about 15 minutes. Made an appointment in the calendar. Showed google maps, weather, stocks, and safari to a friend (using EDGE). Now tonight, safely back at home, I still have about 70% battery remaining.
    Any day I had WiFi on all day I barely got through 12 hours before it needed to be charged. Last night when I was intentionally running my battery down I turned on WiFi. Starting with a battery charged about 50% I browsed with WiFi for 3-4 hours and the phone died.
    I do keep bluetooth off too unless I'm in the car, but honestly, I think it's really the WiFi that is the biggest battery draw.

  • Enforce two step authentication on IOS?

    Hello,
    I would like to know if you can restrict access to Settings > iCloud on IOS by forcing two step authentication or by adding a pass code?
    Phill

    I forgot to mention.. I would like to prevent my IOS device being removed from the iCloud without two level authentication or pass code. Is this possible?

  • "Could not sign in. Unknown error." on my apple tv after enabling two-step verification

    I am unable to sign into my apple tv after enabling the two-step verification. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

    Just finished with a factory reset. Everything works now. I don't really understand the two step verification though. I was not asked to supplement my password with a code when logging into the apple tv.

  • Error while enabling two way authentication :Client certificate missing

    Hi,I am getting the following error while enabling the two way authentication.The weblogic server 5.1 has accepted both the client ca and server certificates and is listening for SSL on the specified port.But when I try to access thru the secured connection thru my IE it asks for Client Authentication dialog asking for valid Client certificate but I am not able to view any of the client certificate even though I have one which is the trusted root store.and there by giving the error page cannot be displayed .On the server side I get the following error.Thu Mar 08 10:54:35 GMT 05:30 2001:<D> <SSLListenThread> Problem accepting connectionjava.io.IOException: required client certificate missing at weblogic.security.SSL.SSLSocket.serverInit2(SSLSocket.java:711) at weblogic.security.SSL.SSLSocket.serverInit(SSLSocket.java:529) at weblogic.security.SSL.SSLSocket.initialize(SSLSocket.java:219) at weblogic.security.SSL.SSLSocket.performAcceptHandshake(SSLSocket.java:192) at weblogic.security.SSL.SSLSocket.getInputStream(SSLSocket.java:1001) at weblogic.socket.ResettableSocket.<init>(ResettableSocket.java:30) at weblogic.socket.JVMSocketManager.accept(JVMSocketManager.java:377) at weblogic.t3.srvr.ListenThread$RJVMListenRequest.execute(ListenThread.java:506) at weblogic.kernel.ExecuteThread.run(ExecuteThread.java, Compiled Code)can anybody please guide me what could be wrong.Do I need to change the browser settings.I have enabled SSL 3.0 and SSL 2.0 and all other settings are defaultIt is urgent.pls give some suggestions.Regards,Bhavani

    I think you have to specify the client root in your weblogic.properties
    file.
    here are my settings:
    weblogic.security.enforceClientCert=true
    weblogic.security.certificate.server=democert.pem
    weblogic.security.key.server=demokey.pem
    weblogic.security.certificate.authority=ca.pem
    weblogic.security.clientRootCA=VeriSignClass1CA.der

  • Hello, How can i configure facebook chat if i have two-step authentication ?

    I've been trying to configure fb chat in thunderbird. I'm unable to connect and connection error is shown in thunderbird. Meanwhile in facebook, a notification came as i tried to access from a unknown device. But there is no option to add that. Can you suggest me an option ?
    Thanks in advance,

    I'd expect Facebook has instructions for how to do this.
