Does location services show your actual address when at home

I should also mention that my wife got a phone the same time I did. Sometimes her's will show the same problem, and then sometimes her's will work fine while mine is right next to her's and not working. This type of behavior would point to a problem with the device and not the service. But then the fact that mine DOES work at times would indicate a software/service issue. I've heard others say that behavior will change when WiFi is turned on or off or when airplane mode is turned off and on. I haven't really noticed that. It's a hard one to figure out. Hopefully it is something with the software/service that will simply be solved with updates.

  • Does "Location Services" always drain the battery when enabled?

    Hi,
I've read lots of things that say if you want to save battery power, disabled "Location Services".
I find it annoying that on the odd occasion that I want to use Location Services, say, to find an ATM near where I am, I have to go into settings and enable it, and then go back into the app I tried to use, and go and enter my search again, etc.
Now, I understand that if my phone is actually trying to find my location, that is should use some power.
But my question is... If I have Location Services switched on, and I am not actually using any app that is trying to find my location, does my phone actually use any more power than if Location Services is disabled?

    Tamara wrote:
It does not use extra power to have Location Services enabled if you're not using the app.
I leave Location Services on all the time and I have decent battery life.
I agree that having location services on doesn't use battery unless an app is using it. Now none of us can say for sure about that since we don't know the software/hardware and how they talk/work and as the other poster said, powers the GPS chip. Just because the service is on, for all we know the OS only powers on the chip then "when needed"
From looking at the "Optimize Your Settings" from http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html They say:
Minimize use of location services: Applications that actively use location services such as Maps may reduce battery life. To disable location services, go to Settings > General > Location Services or use location services only when needed.
While for WiFi/Bluetooth, etc they say turn off, not just minimize use of "applications" that use it. That is because WiFi and Bluetooth have to actively beacon/probe while the GPS only has to do something when requested.
    Just my two cents though.

  • Specified Host Directory does not map to your Site Address

I have defined my site using ftp in the Dreamweaver site definitions and I can connect to it and upload changes with no problem. I am now trying to setup InContext editing capability to the site. When I go thru the steps to add a site in the InContext Admin section, the first steps in the process work fine.  I am able to fill out the ftp settings with my username and password and when I test the settings it comes back that it is able to connect to the site.  The next step is where I run into problems.  When I try to add the assets I get an error that says "The Specified Host Directory does not map to your Site Address".  I can use the same username and password with an ftp Client program and I have complete access to the root folder and all the files in it.  I have used exactly the same Host DIrectory in both my Dreamweaver Remote Setup and in InContext Admin.  Why does it work with Dreamweaver uploads and it can not be used to register in InContext?
My site is www.sonautosales.com and my root folder is defined as /www.sonautosales.com/
I have included a screenshot of the error message.

    Hi Corey:
I just went thru the entire thread trying all the suggestions but
still no luck.  The closest I come to getting this registered is using
    the following settings.
    ftp host:               ftp.prioritysalesandservice.com
    Passive ftp:          unchecked
    Username:          prioritysales
Password:          ****          (I do not mind sending you the password if it will
    help you solve my problem)
This tests good all the time.
Host Directory:     /www.prioritysalesandservice.com/          (This is the folder
name that contains my website and in it is the index.html page)
Image Directory:     Images/                                        (the folder name inside the host
    directory that contains my images)
    Default Page:     Default.htm Default.asp index.html index.htm index.php
    index.cfm
I think the host directory I am using because when I put that in and
then use the browse button to find the Image directory it shows all
the files and folders in my Host directory
    The website address is:     www.prioritysalesandservice.com
Please let me know anything else you need, again I have tried all the
things mentioned in the thread and by using these settings I get the
    following error when I save:
The specified Host Directory does not map to your Site Address (URL)
THe "/www.prioritysalesandservice.com/" host directory could not be
accessed through this Site Address (URL):
Thanks for you help, hope you can figure it out.

  • Keep your email address when moving house

We can help when you move house by switching your Telstra home phone, broadband and entertainment services to your new address.
Just make sure that we know that you want to keep the same email address.
    You can either:
start now by filling out our online form for moving home, or
call us on 1800 670 017 (particularly if you’re moving within the next 5 business days).

Re: Keep your email address when moving house
I was told I could keep my bigpond email account after I moved home to go to the UK. I just needed it whilst I receved bills / and other correspondence for a few weeks.
My BigPond account has been blocked already - and this is very inconvenient - particularly as I won't be able to receive my final Telstra bill.
Can you please unblock [email protected] -
If you need to call me I am currently in Switzerland and can be reached on +41219210812.
I understand I cannot send emails from this account but I was expecting to still be able to receive correspondence.
    Thank you

  • Why does not ipad show on itunes? when i connected with my macbook using usb, just it is charging electricity.

why does not ipad show on itunes? when i connected with my macbook using usb, just it is charging electricity.
    i don't know why...

Sometimes it can be something very simple and easy to fix. Before you get into any involved troubleshooting, quit iTunes, restart your Mac, restart your iPad and then try to sync again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If this doesn't work, then try the more involved stuff.

why does aol not auto enter email addresses when I compose an email?

I have a further problem - having selected the address I want from the umpteen options pulled from my address book, I then press enter to add another line for another address.....and the first address I selected changes to a completely different address!
And also addresses from the address book which previously appeared only in black now randomly appear in red.

  • Why is location services showing me in the wrong city?

I posted this in hardware but this is probably the better spot for it.
While using location based apps at home, sometimes it'll list me as being in Apopka when my actual city is Tampa. It's quite annoying when you're trying to use community based apps and you're not even in the right city. It'll sometimes adjust back to normal if I open up Maps or Waze but once my phone is idle for a bit, it'll go back to the same shenanigans. Is it a home WiFi issue or something wrong with the location services on my phone? I've tried turning off the location services, turning off WiFi, and turning off my phone in hopes of resetting whatever is the issue but it still occurs. Quite frustrating to say the least. Resetting my network setting and location services didn't seem to fix it either.
If it's a router issue, I have no idea how to fix it. We do have some Sprint Airave thing that boosts our signal inside the house. I'm wondering if that's messing with the GPS.

It's using the location of your IP address, which is the location of your ISP's network point of presence. If you open an app that uses GPS it will update with the additional information. You should go to Settings/Privacy/Location Services and verify that the apps you are using are enabled.

  • Location services shows wrong location

I have an iPhone 5 with latest iOS. I live in Kennesaw GA. I installed xfinity Internet at my new home.
When my phone is connected to wifi, it shows the current location as charleston SC.   This is for any app that uses the GPS.
My wife has an iPhone 4S with latest iOS and her current location is correct when connected to wifi.
So I find it strange that my phone shows my current location as Charleston.
When I turn off the wifi, the current location is correct.
If anyone has experienced the same problem please respond.

    Improving GPS accuracy
GPS accuracy varies depending on the number of visible GPS satellites. Locating all visible satellites can take several minutes, with accuracy gradually increasing over time. Use these tips to improve GPS accuracy:
Ensure the date, time, and time zone are correctly set on the device in Settings > General > Date & Time. If possible, use Set Automatically.
Important: Incorrect settings on your computer can sync to your device. Verify the date, time, and time zone on any computer that syncs with your device.
    Restart your device.
Verify that you have a cellular or Wi-Fi network connection. This allows the Assisted GPS (A-GPS) on the device to locate visible GPS satellites faster, in addition to providing initial location information using the Wi-Fi or cellular networks.
Note: Microcells (sometimes called Femtocells) are not supported with Location Services.
Maintain a clear view of the horizon in several directions. Keep in mind that walls, vehicle roofs, tall buildings, mountains, and other obstructions can block line of sight to GPS satellites. When this occurs, your device will automatically use Wi-Fi or cellular networks to determine your position, until the GPS satellites are visible again.

  • Why does location services not work on my ipad2 with ios7?

Why does my wifi only iPad 2 location serves not work...worked for years, even when I traveled extensively and returned home. I loaded ios7plus and went out West for the holidays.  Worked out West and on return, did not...live in country and worked when I took it to Mickey d's six miles away.  Only change is ios7 and it's default to Apple maps.  Apple support claimed to have passed this to engineering, but despite my follow ups with them using my case number, they have left me in limbo with a silent phone.  This is very wrong and not the apple I have known...very frustrated.

Cause Wi-Fi only iPads do not have GPS receivers in them, nor can they use the cell towers for triangulating position. Best they can do is guesstimate based on the hotspots they are connecting to. They base their guess on a database of known hotspots, which can be incomplete, erroneous or wildly inaccurate. The  rise of the problem can be due to any change you or your ISP has done to the Wi-Fi setup you use.
If you need to depend on critical apps that require reliable Location Services, get Wi-Fi+Cell devices next time. They can be used without a SIM chip with no problems (and not paying for cell charges), but GPS will work fine.

  • Does "location service" ever let go?

When I leave the "location services" turned on, the usage meter and standby meter always record the exact same amount of time, even if the phone is just sitting there doing absolutely nothing and should be in standby. It takes turning off location services and doing a reboot to get the usage meter to report only the time it's actually in use.
As far as I can tell, this it the only service or app that causes this problem. Strangely enough, it doesn't seem to affect battery life much.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
Other specs, in case anyone cares:
    -iPhone 3G 16gb White
    -model: MB499LL
    -version: 2.0.1 (5B108)
    -Serial # starts 88827xxxxxx
    -Brightness: 50%
    -Bluetooth: off unless needed
-Push: on - only pushing Mobile/Me calendar and contacts, which change only once or twice per day
    -Fetch: on - 30min - fetching 3 email accounts
    -GPS/location: off unless needed
-3g: On all of the time
-Wi-Fi: On all of the time, at use mostly at home

What are all 4 Mighty Mouse buttons mapped to? Starting with left, then right, then scroll ball button, then side buttons. I only ask because it could be possible you are activating a different button when you stop, and the mouse switches to THAT function, thereby letting go of the left click function.

  • HT201472 Does location services have to be on for activation lock to work ?

Will activation lock work if location services is turned off ?

    How does Activation Lock work?
When you enable Find My iPhone on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 7, your Apple ID is securely stored on Apple’s activation servers and linked to your device. From that point on, your password will be required before anyone can turn off Find My iPhone on your device, erase your device, or reactivate and use your device.
Activation Lock is enabled automatically when you turn on Find My iPhone in iOS 7, or when you upgrade to iOS 7 from a previous version of iOS that has Find My iPhone already turned on.
To turn on Find My iPhone on your device:
    Go to Settings.
    Tap iCloud.
Sign in with your Apple ID, if necessary.
    Turn on Find My iPhone.
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7
    iCloud: Activation Lock
