How do I change Apple ID on iPod 5 and iPad mini while keeping the same ID on iPad and iPhone. I only want to change ID on 2 devices. Currently they share same ID. Thanks
You can start a new Apple ID, just understand all purchases made under an Apple ID are forever associated with that ID and can't be switched to a new one.
The requirements of an Apple ID is that it be from a valid email account.

Since many apps are free, they can be repurchased free with a new Apple ID.
If you purchased valuable apps under your ID, get a new one for your daughter. Or visa versa.
You can continue to keep them in one computer library which will allow you to sync them to all devices.
Updates will require the Apple ID and password from the purchasing Apple ID.

Thank you!It prevents a thief from accessing your software and data, but unless it has iOS 7 installed it will not prevent the thief from erasing and restoring it for his/her own use.
If you have iOS 7 installed even if the thief cracks your passcode, they will need to know your Apple ID and password to use it, otherwise, it's bricked. -

First decide which iPhone will be keeping the current iCloud account. On the others, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Once all your devices have their on iCloud accounts, to un-merge the data you will have to go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your son's contacts from your account, and vice versa).
You should also use separate Apple IDs for services such as iMessage and FaceTime. Otherwise, you're likely to end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls. If you need to change these, for iMessage go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID (such as the one just created for iCloud). For FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

Very simple. Turn off Find my iDevice, then Tap Settings, General, Erase, Erase all content and settings.

How do you keep your purchased apps if you are forced to change your Apple ID? A good example is if you are forced to change your email, which you use as your Apple ID. what if it is a security app and you lose a lot of data if you lose the app? Why are the apps tied to the Apple ID rather than the user? Why is it impossible to globally change the Apple I D?
All content is tied to the account, but you can change the primary email address on an account e.g. you can log into your account via the Store > View Account on your computer's iTunes and there should be an Edit button to the right of your account id on your account's page, or similarly on your iPad try tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and view your account. Or you can update it by logging into it via this page http://appleid.apple.com . You shouldn't lose any content on the account if you update it.
After updating the account you may need to log out of your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version for it to be 'refreshed' on it -

Disable auto-syncing. Here’s how:
1. Before you plug the iPhone or iPod into the computer, go to iTunes.
2. On a Mac, go to the iTunes menu -> Preferences -> Devices.
On a PC, go to Edit -> Settings -> Devices
3. In the pop up window, look for the icon or tab that says Devices. Choose it.
4. Just below the box, you’ll see a checkbox reading "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically."
5. Check it and click OK at the bottom of the window.
Now when you plug the phone in it won't automatically star syncing. -

Who has maxed out their space on their 160? How much space can itunes store on a MacBook? should I just shift "jazz" to a new iPod and keep rock on my current 160? any suggestions?
I have not filled the iPod Classic 160 GB. I have most of my music and a few movies for traveling on that one. Before I bought it, I had a 20 GB that was always full. Now, what I do is have rock music on a shuffle that I use for biking or running. Audio Books are on an iPod Touch. The 20 GB unit is no longer used (given away) and replaced with the 160 that holds just about everything else.
The MacBook is limited by the size of the hard disk. Many people with have their entire iTunes library on an external USB or Firewire hard drive and have iTunes map to that. Remember that this is not truly a backup (if the library is only on one drive, it is not a backup, nor should the iPod/iPhone/iPad/etc. be considered a backup)
If you have the means to have another device, I would agree that splitting your music by genre on each device is the way to go. I've known people that sort their music on devices by artist, album, etc. As long as you find a way that works for you. -

According to Create an AppleID:
Choose an Apple ID and password.
Enter your primary email address as your Apple ID. This will be used as the contact email address for your account. Please note that this email address must be verified before you can use certain Apple services.
And, unless I'm missing something, it appears that you're trying to use your father's e-mail address. Start at Find your AppleID and see if you can resolve the issue. -

I think the issue is that iTunes (for whatever reason) thinks I have two Apple ID's.
also, to further complicate the issue, when i try updating the apps from my iPod the iTunes store is still recognizing my old hotmail Apple ID. So when I go to enter my password it won't accept because it doesn't match with the old Apple ID, even though it is the same account (just new Apple ID name).
I have tried signing out within the App Store and re-signing in with my Apple ID but it still brings up my old Apple ID name when I try to update. -

also you can go into settings, imessage on theire device, go into send and receive and uncheck your phone number (on their ipods) that way if a message is adressed to your phone number, they will not get it -
