ios decipher, it's not an issue... more of an annoyance. The old ID is not being used, it'll never be used, so why leave it out there? It seems that Apple would want to get rid of unused Apple IDs as much as anyone.
Look, it's no a big deal to me. I have three Apple IDs (one tied to an old work phone/account that I haven't used in 2 years since I left that company) and only use one. If Apple wants to maintain those unused Apple IDs, it's no skin off my nose. But this question is asked many times by many people, and it seems like someone somewhere should be able to give a more useful answer to the question than "eh... just don't use it again...".
By the way, I think this forum is hosted by Apple (I could be wrong...), so it seems that people are trying to ask Apple. Just my 2cents... your thoughts/opinions may vary.

I wholeheartedly agree. It seems rather pedestrian given that *supposedly* lesser sites/brands allow 'opting out gracefully' at any time - most with the ability to scrub everything clean and start again.
It's annoying enough that Apple fail to contribute much practical help here, but to obfuscate the fact it's also impossible to leave is rather unbecoming to say the least - just see the number of questions on account deletion etc.
So in short then: spending 1000s of $£¥€ or whatever on the 'best tech' on the planet and still no ability to do a basic account closure (or even a trace of Blu-Ray support even)...
Nevermind. Clearly Apple feel that life in "The Village" is just so great that who in their right mind would want to go.

Tthe brute force method: start with Settings > iCloud and turn off Find My (you will need the password), then change the iCloud ID, then go to the apps such as Messages, FaceTime, etc, and delete the Apple ID and enter the new one.

It is not possible to delete an apple id completely. You can only delete information like credit card, adress, name... To do this, go to iTunes Store, click on your email adress in the upper right corner and enter your password. Now you can manage your account.
An apple id without password is not possible.

You can not delete an Apple account. You will have to use a different email address to setup a new account if they are in conflict with each other.

Why would you want to delete an Apple ID? Purchases you make from iTunes and/or the App store are locked to the Apple ID the purchase is made with. You would be unable to access your content.

If you don't want ANY one at Apple knowing your email address you could try this:
Go to http://myinfo.apple.com/ and where your email address is listed just replace it with a made-up one like "[email protected]"

The content (music, videos, apps, games, etc) that is aquired with an Apple ID is forever tied to that ID. Apple does not transfer the content of one Apple ID to another ID and Apple does not merge Apple IDs. Unless you wish to abandon all of the content associated with an Apple ID and buy it again with another Apple ID, you should maintain the ID in order to redownload or update the content in the future.
It is not a good idea to make numerious Apple IDs for this very reason.

You would have to ask Apple. You can delete the ID from your devices and stop using it, but the ID is maintained by Apple. You can also make changes to your ID if you need to (see Change your Apple ID - Apple Support).

When verifying all files had been removed, I could not delete the Apple folder in Common Files as it says the folder or a file in it is open in another program.
