Hi, Doug.
I would recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device. If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close. Test the results after processing these steps.
If the issue persists, make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent. Also, make sure there is an assigned tone to messages under Settings > Sounds.

Yes. On your phone make sure it is set to send messages from your phone number, not your apple id or other email address. That way when they reply it will go to your phone.

I'm getting a similar problem with my Macbook Pro. itunes match was working fine until two days ago when i created another 'user id' for the laptop and then an itunes account for that user under their profile. Now i cant turn on itunes match on my itunes under my user account. Contacted Apple today who said to use the Express Lane and email the problem and they might be able to make an 'exception' on the account. Otherwise I'll have to wait 88 days to access a lot of my music on the macbook pro. itunes match is still working on the iphone 4S and ipad2.
Can anyone help? The only thought was too re-stream the laptop. Ive already tried deauthorising the other user but it made no difference.

I hava an Iphone 4 that wont sound when I recieve A Text.

Basically the Do not disturb feature is off, the app's have been closed and I will hear the text message come in after I turn the phone back on and that is it.
The IOS 6.0.1 (or earlier) update clearly has some serious issues that the apple community is experiencing right now. Unfortunately this fault happens every day and is getting to be annoying.
I am a very busy person who needs to hear when I get a text message from my work colleagues about important issues.
I value Apple's products as they are very trust worthy until now.
Apple I will put this out to you, will you fix this issue for your valued customers as this is a big problem for all of us, or will you slide this under the carpet and pretend the issue never existed?

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode. In this case, all data on it is gone. There's nothing to back up.

hi iphone users i have had the same problem with the no sound issue i have a little tweek that will gain all sound back on any iphone it worked for me heres what to do if it works for you let me no because ino its a nightmare having a phone with no sound 1st thing go to settings general accessibility scroll down assistive touch click it on when you get the white dot click on it you will have 4icons click on the device 1 you will then see volume up and down and also have little bell make sure volume is up and the bell is not muted there you quick fix for sound also you dont have to keep the assistive on you can then turn it off you will have all sounds incoming call the lot enjoy hope it helps

I had a call with facetime, and the sound stopped on a moment and nevr came back.
I've restored with iTunes without any result. When I am playing music or video or placing a call, the person at the other side heares me butt I hear notting.

Can I use Messages in OSX to text with a person on an Android platform? My iPhone works cross platform but I don't get the text in Messages on my desktop with OSX 10.8.2

Does "Messages" in OSX 10.8.2 work cross platform? My daughter has an android phone and I can text with her OK in iOS. However, her texts don't show up on OSX whereas texts from my son, who has an iPhone, work in iOS and OSX.

The answer is yes and no.
As Barney-15E link says you can get the Messages app to SMS to AIM Buddies. Or rather telephone Numbers as AIM Buddies.
There are limits.
The computer has to be set as if in the United States (System Preferences > Language and Text > Region)
The phone is question has to be on a carrier that supports AIM SMS forwarding which only applies to some US based carriers.
The reason the SMS Messages arriving on the iPhone do not sync is that they are not iMessages (the "No" Part).
I use Messages with the Buddy List Showing.
As a test I have added a made up number as a Buddy and also created a Address Card for it.
So Mousing over the "Buddy" reveal the "Screen Name" which is the phone Number
You have to include the Leading +1 country code as well.

My iPhone doesn't make a sound when I receive a text, even though it's on loud.

When a message comes through on my iPhone it doesn't give and text tone to say it has arrived. It will show it on the screen as normal when the home button is pressed. I have checked my handset is not on mute and the volume is full. It is not set to vibrate in any way. How can I fix this?

I am having the exact same issue. My phone will vibrate when I have the sound on but when a text message comes in, I don't get the texting sound. I rebooted the phone and it worked fine for about 30 min. Now it is doing it again..no text sounds...im going to try the headphone thing now....

The solutions on here did not work for me.   I tried.....
I have the same problem with a BRAND NEW iPhone 5c version 7.1- no sound when a text message arrives.
(1) I have "do not disturb" scheduled correctly.   No partial moon on the main screen near the time and battery indicator.
(2) I have the ringer icon correct with no slash.    Yes I turned the hardward mute switch to the UP position (ie the one above the + and - buttons on the left side.   I tried messaging with the bell as shown and bell with a slash and neither work.   The mute switch is not red (switch above the + volume hardware switch)     I enabled some assistant using the Settings menu.    And I press the dot (looks like a target symbol) and go to Devices and I can see what position the bell is in....either a bell with a slash or no slash.
(3) Yes ringtones are configured for text and other. I can hear them when I am under settings > sounds.   But they do not link with the actual hardware.
(4) I rebooted the iPhone 5c by using the button at top, slide the red bar, then pressed it again, apple came up for a minute and it seemed to be back up.
(5) I upgraded the IPhone 5c from 7.0.4 to 7.1 using my pc and itunes.   And the upgrade was successful but did not fix the text issue.
(6) I do not have it in airplane mode or silent mode.
(7) I reset all settings using Setttings > General > reset > reset all settings . this wipes settings but not data and media.
This is really frustrating.

Do you have sounds turned on for these types of notifications? Also, if you have notifications turned on, do the sounds show up in the Notifications settings area for the particular apps?
