HT5622 We have 3 PCs, 2 iPads, 1 iPhone, a MacBook (and a partrige in a pear tree), how do set up 1 itunes library?

I have an individual appleID (2 PCs, 1 iPad, 1 iPhone), my son has an individual appleID (1 iPad, 1 MacBook), and my daughter has an individual appleID (1 iPad, 1 PC).  I would like for us to have 1 itunes library that we sync to network attached storage device hosting the itunes library.  I want each of us to access (sync) what we want from the same library.  How do I set up itunes to be our media library?

I recently got a macbook and had to transfer all my files from my pc laptop. I don't remember the exact process, but I googled something along the lines of "transferring music from pc to mac" and found some helpful articles on setting up a network between the two computers. I don't know if this would work for the original poster as s/he probably can't get the two computers together, but I used an ethernet cable and turned off the wireless and somehow dragged the files over. It can definitely be done, it was a little time consuming but worth it!

  • I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror to an AppleTV.  The devices will connect, but the video monitors show only a blank screen.  The AppleTV's work fine with various other iOS & OSX devices. Ideas?

I have three AppleTV's where I work.  I have two at home.  I have an iPhone 4S running iOS7.0.2 which mirrors smoothly via AirPlay.  I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and a 2011 iMac, both running Mountain Lion, both of which mirror smoothly through AirPlay.  I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror.  The iPad will connect to the AppleTV, but the TV's and projectors only show a black screen when connected: the iPad screen looks as it should, except that the transitions become jumpy when connected via AirPlay.  This is true on both networks: at home and at work.  Another gentleman using the network where I work has the most recent iPad, also running iOS7.0.2, and he is having the same problem.  I have tried to "Reset All Settings."  I have tried to "Restore."  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Has anyone else experience difficulty mirroring the iPad through AirPlay since the release of iOS7.0.2?

No problems exists with the router (on either network described above) or the multiple AppleTV's which are able to mirror multiple other OSX & iOS devices seamlessly. The problem is strictly with the iPad and iOS7.

This is an iOS 7 AirPlay mirroring bug...
To make matters worse, the iPad automatically drops its mirroring session 45 seconds after it auto-locks.
3-4 mirroring sessions is all it takes for the iPad mirroring to freeze up.
After this happens, mirroring to an Apple TV only projects a blank screen.
Once the mirroring is hung, the only way to fix it is to restart the iPad.
Apple please fix this iOS 7 issue!

  • How can i share my iTunes library with my fiancee, he has new iPhone 5 I have an iPhone 4s,iPad, and Mac Book Pro. I signed on to his phone with my account and the library is in iTunes but it is not showing up in his music?

How can i get my itunes library on my fiances' iphone 5?  I have an iphone 4s, ipad and a Mac book pro.  I thought I could have my music on up to ten different devises?  I signed in on his phone and my music is in his itunes account but it is not in his music file.

I regret to say that you need a new computer. That G5, as good as it still is, simply cannot run the required software to be used with the latest iPhones and other software.

  • HT1296 I have not connected my iPad to a pc yet and it has my songs on it that are on iTunes, will I lose this if I plug it onto a PC?

I have not connected my iPad to a pc yet and it has my songs on it that are on iTunes, will I lose this if I plug it onto a PC?

Since you have never plugged the iPad into your computer's iTunes yet - you are syncing to a "new" computer so .... Yes you will lose the music if you sync it with iTunes before making this your syncing computer.
But ..... You can transfer all of the iPad content into iTunes and that will make the iTunes library your new syncing library. Just follow all of the steps in this user tip and you will be OK. Then you will be able sync without losing anything.

Had to restore my computer and now have music on the iPad that I would like to transfer back to the computer. How do I do this? (Operating system is Windows Vista)

This depends, if the music was purchased on the iTunes store you can transfer purchases. If it was not then you would need a 3rd party program in order to rip these files to the computer.

    Can anyone help please?

Have you checked to see if the Apps have been placed in an App folder?
Try swiping down from the middle of the screen so the search bar appears. Type the name of the App and if the App appears it is indeed on your phone.
You could also try restarting your device by holding the power and home button until the Apple logo appears.

  • We have 2 Macs, 3 ipads, 2 iphones,

We have 2 Macs, 3 ipads, 2 iphones and 2 Samsung tablets.  For some reason I cannot use our wifi with the iphones or the 2 Samsung products.  It has been suggested to me that the problem is that our Airport runs at 5GHz and the iphones and the Samsung tablets run at 2.4GHz, so I need to change the router setting?  How do I do that?  We bought our Airport in 2009 or 2010?  So is it the same one that runs both at the same time? How do I tell what kind of router this is?  Because to me it just looks - white with a green light

Is your AirPort an AirPort Extrem or Express?

Open AirPort Utility: On a Mac open Applications>Utilities>AirPort Utility
Choose your AirPort on the left side
Look for: "AirPort Utility found a ..." at the top
Here you can see the generation of your AirPort. Only the Extreme Generation 3/4/5 uses dualband (2,5 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously
    Select Manual Setup
    Open the Wireless tab
Here you can select the Radio Mode you want to use

I don't have iPhoto on my ipad or iPhone. Apple says these are free but it is $4.99 in the App Store?

They are free if you have activated a new iOS 7 compatible device since 1st September 2013. When did you buy and activate your iPad and/or iPhone ? If on or after that date then try logging out of your account on that device by tapping on your id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and then log back in and see if it then shows as free on it

  • How do I share my iTunes library to an iPad without using "Home Sharing"?

I have set up my iTunes library to be shared with others over our home network.  This is the "Share your library" option, and NOT "Home Sharing" since my wife has her own Apple ID and I, unfortunatly, have 2.  She was wanting to listen to our music on her iPad but could not figure out how to access the shared library.  The "Music" app (click more, select library) only seems to work for Home Shared libraries.  (In fact, I had tried Home Sharing first and when I turned it off, all of the buttons at the bottom of the Music app's screen disappeared - note:  she has no music stored on the iPad.)
So, how can an iPad access a shared iTunes music library without using Home Sharing?
(iPad 2, iOS 6; Mac 10.8, iTunes 10 because 11 totally inhibits my ability to use my iPod the way I want.)

-> Home Sharing is different than logging into the iTunes store.
You enable Home Sharing using one AppleID. Doesn't matter which you use but all devices must use the same AppleID for Home Sharing.

  • I just purchased a Macbook, iPad, and iPhone and I am trying to sync my iTunes library from my Windows laptop.  How can I sync my iTunes library to all devices?

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro (13 inch with Retina display), an iPad Air 2, and an iPhone 6 plus.  Before these purchases, I was using a Windows 7 laptop to manage my iTunes library and iTunes purchases.  I am in need of syncing my iTunes library on my iPod classic (160 GB) with all of my new Apple devices.  How can I sync my iTunes library with all of my new devices?

Devices can only sync to one library at a time. You can, however, have multiple copies of libraries on different computers though it can be tricky making sure they are always synchronized.  You can put your Windows iTunes on your Mac.
Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
When this is to a new computer put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • I have created separate user accounts for my 2 boys on my macbook. How do i get my itunes library onto their new ipods?

I have created separate user accounts for my 2 boys on my macbook. How do i get my itunes library onto their new ipods?

They can't.  Which came first - the chicken or the egg?  Actually, that's a bad comparison but a sync must come first.
The library is actually part of iTunes and it contains everything.  iTunes is then configured so that you (or they) determine which portion of everything will be synced to each iPod (identified by a unique name, see below for an example of an iPod and an iPad).  iTunes can't make that decision until AFTER it knows which iPods exist.
By the way, I (you, they) can very easily change the name of each device to whatever I (you, they) wish to call it.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
