HT5622 Which Apple ID was used  to download an App?

HI, there is an app on my iMac that requires an update, App Store reminds me "all the time"!!!
Problem is I don't recall which Apple id was used to download it, and it won't let me update it as I get a msg to "sign in with aplle id used to download this app".
(I even think I may have downloaded this App on my old iMac...)
This app in particular is Smart Converter, an app to convert media files for use on different media, like iphone, ipad, imac, apple tv, etc...
Can't I just delete the App and download it again using my current Apple Id?
Thank you for any help with this.

OK I finally was able to delete it...had to do a restart to finlaize deletion, but the app was gone after. And have re-installed it with my current apple id.
Thanks.

    Hi maikeru1,
If you have your apps synced to iTunes, you can use a similar process to that outlined in the following article (the Get Info command) to show what Apple ID it was purchased under:

    Hi dip_kinu,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what device you are trying to set up and what is happening when you try to do so. If you are having issues remembering your Apple ID, or feel like you may have set up multiple Apple ID's, you may find the following page helpful:

  • Is there any way to know which Apple ID was used to activat

My father activated my iPad mini about two years ago.
I recently restored it after updating it to iOS 8.0.2
After restoring, it is asking for the Apple ID that was used to activate the device.
Unfortunately my father can't remember the Apple ID he used to activate the iPad mini.
I was wondering if there was any way i can know which apple ID was used so i can access my iPad somehow.
Or if there is any other way possible to activate my device. PLEASE let me know.

Click here and use Apple's iForgot service, or if needed, contact their Account Security team.
If both methods fail and you or he is the original owner, take the device and its original purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store.

  • I received an email from apple advising my id was used to download an app in china, I have changed my password, do I need to do anything else?

I received an email re security issue on my iPhone 4s, advising that someone had used my id to download an app in china. i have changed my password as advised as I did not authorise this activity, is there anything else I should do?

I would recommend setting up 2-Step Verification for the Apple ID...
Two-step verification is an additional security feature for your Apple ID that's designed to prevent anyone from accessing or using your account, even if they know your password.
It requires you to verify your identity using one of your devices before you can take any of these actions:
Sign in to My Apple ID to manage your account
Sign in to iCloud on a new device or at iCloud.com
Make an iTunes, iBooks, or App Store purchase from a new device
Get Apple ID related support from Apple

  • Find out what Apple ID was used to install an app

I've passed an iPad on to my boss and it seems I've left an app on there that keeps asking for my personal Apple ID for update purposes. Of course he's only come to me with this question when he's gone to do an update because there's 20 apps in the queue for update. So I don't know which app it is that is calling for my details so I can delete and reinstall using his ID.
Is there any way of determining what ID was used to install apps on a device? There are way too many apps now installed to delete and reinstall them all.

Thanks to Meg and rbrylawski for their comments above.

Actually, this is incorrect, as my second post above does answer the question.

  • How do I figure which Apple ID I used to download iMovie? It won't let me update iMovie and I really need to use it.

    kj

The issue is likely that you didn't accept the iLife apps that came free on your new Mac into your iTunes/Mac App Store account when you first got the Mac. So currently there is no Apple ID that will help you update these apps.
Do you find these iLife apps in a section for you to accept them when you open the MAS, sign into your account and open the Purchases pane?

It is possible that these emails are phishing attempts. Do NOT click any link in the email. The phishers are very clever in that they seem to follow Apple Graphic Design Standards to near perfection. A sure way to tell is to examine any link the email contains for its target URL. If it does not point to the apple.com domain - NOT just contain the word "apple"in it 'somewhere - but point to the Apple web presence - it is most certainly phishing. If you determine that it is phishing, you can and should FORWARD the email to [email protected] > then DELETE with Prejudice. • Your apple ID was used to purchase Split Lens 2 from a US location.

Got an email from apple this morning saying my apple id was used to download Split Lens 2 from a US location. I looked at the app in the store and it is a free version of a chinese developer's photo filter. I asked some friends and they had it downloaded on their accounts as well. I assumed when I created my apple ID password originally it was strong enough when the little indicator said "strong" but I guess I was mistaken.

This could be a phishing email and not actually from Apple at all.
Carefully check the email address the email was sent from and where any links in the email actually go to.
DO NOT enter any personal details on any website you are directed to, unless you are 100% sure it is a legitimate Apple website.
Strong passwords are not perfect - just better than weak ones. Change it at http://appleid.apple.com/

  • I keep getting emails saying my Apple ID was used to purchase an pal when I didn't make the purchase

I Keep getting emails saying my Apple ID was used to purchase an app in the amount of $xx.  I did not make the purchase.  I keep dumping these emails into trash as it seems like spam but it's getting annoying.  Email appears to be coming from Apple.  Any ideas?

If you think it's spam move it to junk instead of trash. Read the article below and report one to Apple.

  • HT201272 Anyone know how I can figure out which of my family's 5 Apple devices was used to purchase something from iTunes ?   We all have the same apple account/ID.   Thanks!

Anyone know how I can figure out which of my family's 5 Apple devices was used to purchase a specific song via iTunes ?   We all have the same Apple ID/account which makes it tricky...  Thanks!

What I was afraid of.   Thanks.   Seems like someone at Apple should be figuring this out.  Would be nice to link each purchase to a specific device.
That would not be practical or probably even possible since one of the features of recent versions of iTunes and the iTunes Store is to allow new purchases to be automatically downloaded to every device registered to your Apple ID when something is purchased. If you want purchases linked to specific devices, each user should have his or her own iTunes Store account.

It had a link to cancel purchase but asked for my email and password which I gave then it wanted my credit card info! I didn't give that, what should I do? Do you think this is just a way to get my credit card information?

It sounds like a phishing email. You can't "cancel" purchases. You've now given them your AppleID and password, so you should immediately change your password to something new and very secure.
Also watch out for suspicicious activity on your account.

  • My husbands password was used to download Extreme 777 app. I would like to change the name and purchase point under my password, but it won't let me without purchasing new app. If I do this , I must delete current app and lose all my credits and start ove

My husband's password was used to download app. ( Extreme 777) onto my ipad 2. I have now changed  the apple ID to my own, but I cannot use my $20.00 credit in itune on this app. It says app. was purchased under another ID and i must purchase app. in my ID. I tried going back to his ID to redemm $ 20.00, but gift cards were redeemed under my new ID, therefore leaving 0 balance under his ID. If I purchase app again, I will lose all current credits on this app. Anyway to change the name on original download or transfer credits to new app?. Thanks

Apps are forever tied to the AppleID used to download them.
You cannot use your AppleID to add credit to an app purchased
under your husband's AppleID. You must either download the
app under your AppleID (in effect starting over) or add credit to
    his account.

I am puzzled by this. The laptop doesn't need the Apple ID - but iTunes does. I could be missing something but ....
Why would you not be able to use your existing Apple ID and iTunes account on a new laptop? If you authorized the computer - you should be able to use your existing account - unless you already had 5 computers authorized with the existing ID - and that was why iTunes would not accept the ID. However, I'm sure that you would have received a popup message from iTunes telling you that you had reached the limit.
I just received a new MBP and my daughter did as well. My entire family shares an Apple ID and we had no issues at all with my Apple ID and iTunes on our new computers and I did not have to sign up for a new account. Did you even try the old ID?

  • My apple id was used to sign in...??

Since upgrading from snow leopard to lion (which I hate) I keep getting email messages on my MBP (with lion) and my Mac Pro desktop (SL). The messages read "your apple ID was used to sign in to facetime..." or "...to iCloud and iMessage on an iPad mini."
    How do I stop this?

As léonie pointed out, you need to check whether or not this is really from Apple.
