Open Safari and on the menu named Safari click Preferences. In the Preferences window, click General at the top. Set "New windows open with" and "New tabs open with" to "Top Sites." You can leave the Homepage setting as it is (e.g. Google), but nothing will open to the Homepage unless you have a Home icon in the toolbar and click on it.

Firefox is a browser; do you mean that your MacBook Pro currently has Mac OS X 10.5.8 (“Leopard”) as its operating system?
If you can’t afford to lose your documents, have you been making regular backups of your MacBook Pro’s internal disk to date?
You can upgrade your MacBook Pro to at least Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.8). Depending upon which model you have, you could potentially upgrade it to the current version, Mavericks (OS X 10.9.2), but you’ll need to get to 10.6.8 before you can upgrade any further. You can do that by purchasing the white retail Snow Leopard DVD, installing Snow Leopard, and then running Software Update to get to 10.6.8. Note that if you currently depend upon any PowerPC applications, they will not work on versions of OS X later than 10.6.8. You might also need to upgrade its installed RAM to ensure good performance on a newer operating system.
Before you do any operating system upgrade, be sure that you have made a backup of your valuable documents.
Note that your current freeze up could be resolvable without having to upgrade your operating system. Would you prefer to stay with Leopard and resolve the freeze, or would you prefer to upgrade to a newer operating system? -

I have an ITunes account. I got it when I got my IPOD. I've thought about upgrading, but I didn't see any reason to buy a newer IPOD because they all come with so much stuff I don't want/need. I don't have my current IPOD filled yet and I really don't need an IPOD Touch that has capabilities that my Droid already has. I don't need to be concerned with documents, mail, attaching to Facebook or playing games. I can do all that on my phone. I just want to maintain my music between 3 devices.
So now that I see it is not to my benefit to have this product---can you point me in the direction to cancel this? And how do I get my music back? Will it show up once I cancel my account? -
The problem is with the new operating system and sending photo via email when used in my iPad.
From photo I selected 3 photos to send via email. I choose the upload key and choose to send by email. Typing text on the email is very slow. This is solved by saving the email as a draft and opening the email again from mail.
Can you amend he system to allow emails to be sent from photo as previously.Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off" -

It sounds like you are trying to send emails but for some reason, thousands show activity. I would start by re indexing the mailbox to help troubleshoot the issue:
1.Quit Mail if it’s open.
2.In ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData, delete any file that begins with “Envelope Index,” such as Envelope Index or Envelope Index-shm.To show your home Library folder, hold down the Option key, then in the Finder choose Go > Library.
3.Open Mail.Mail creates new Envelope Index files. This process may take a few minutes, depending on how many messages Mail is reindexing.

If the issue persists, I would next remove the account, restart the computer, and re add the account:
1.Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Accounts.
2.Select an account, then click Remove.

Removing an Exchange or IMAP account doesn’t permanently delete the account’s mailboxes and messages because they’re stored on the mail server. To retrieve the account’s mailboxes and messages from the server, add the account again in Mail.
To add the account again, click the rather than the as described above and retest the issue.

There is no legitimate (Apple supported) way to downgrad an iOS on a device. Have you tried downloading/installing a new (free) app. That works for many users with that problem.

I just downloaded the new operating syaytem and all my apps are STUCK in the app store . I can open them in the app store but can NOT creat icons with them only open them
If they are in your iTunes library, sync them back to your phone. If not, restore your iCloud backup. If you don't have one, you'll have to redownload them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 (however this will not restore your app data).

If you are experiencing difficulties with the connection between your stereo and device, disconnect the device, and then power cycle the stereo and your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. When the Home screen reappears, reconnect your device. If you cannot power cycle the stereo, turn the car off and then back on to allow the stereo to power off.

I have a MacBook which I purchased in 2006. It cannot upgrade to newer operating systems.Since Apple has stopped support to Snow Leopard, how can I keep my MacBook safe? Buying another computer is not an option. Any ideas or suggestions? Many thanks.

For what it's worth, from my reading of the Snow Leopard EULA (and I would assume that there is similar language in the EULAs for all other operating systems, as well), I'm not seeing any obligation on the part of Apple to provide Security Updates of any kind, period/full stop. The wording appears to be completely "use at your own risk." I have no idea whether this "use at your own risk" would survive a legal challenge, or if such a legal challenge would depend on whether or not Apple is still selling (or even giving away for free) an OS, or whether local law would, according to this, override the EULA. They can always claim that they are still supporting an OS, whether or not in any practical sense, they are. Besides that, even when Apple was still actively "supporting" Snow Leopard, which I don't think it is any longer, "use at your own risk" would still have applied to a case where Apple may have been late with a patch, or a response, or an adequate response, to a zero-day threat, such as Flashback was, which was constantly evolving. Many thousands were affected by that, and, to my knowledge, at least, there was no legal action directed at Apple throughout or after that episode. If there was any, I don't think it succeeded.

I upgraded operating systems and now I can't find my photos in iPhoto. There are only random photos, but I can't find all the other albums I had. Where are they?
Silly question first... when "deleting duplicates", did you delete the picturs or music folders? :}
Are the "Previous system" folders still there? Are the photos/music inside the recent Previous folder?
Have you tried doing a search for the files?
Do you have a new account set up, that you are now signed in to, rather than your old account? -

I have an older laptop and cannot upgrade to the new version of itunes unless I upgrade my operating system. Can someone please tell me the steps I need to take to upgrade?
Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, it's already running the newest OS it can.
If it's an Intel Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update twice.
It isn't necessary to upgrade past 10.6.8 to use the current version of iTunes. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.

Your problem has nothign to do with your installation of Mavericks. I assume you are referring to your SuperDrive not being able to read any discs, is that correct? If so then please advise what troubleshooting steps you have taken? -

Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
