HT5625 A family member gave me her old iPhone
A family member gave me her old iPhone. I changed it to my AT&T service. HOWEVER, when I text people, it still shows HER name and not mine. How do I update this so MY name appears as the sender?
Thanks Chris.
I did change to my own cell number (with AT&T).
I am not sure whether I restored and activated under MY name/Apple ID. (Out of convenience I have probably maintained HER Apple ID since I know the password.)
When I text people her name shows up and people don't realize it is me. (I don't know what appears with phone use.)
Thanks for your help here.
Dave

i'm a new user on iPhone. My sister gave me her old iPhone that she bought in UK, she she it here in the Philippines and i'm having problems because i can't use it. i already restored it to set it up new but i couldn't still activate it. It says, " Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached." and "The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information."
what should i do for me to be able to use it?
please help!
Thank you very much!It is locked to your sisters carrier.
She would have to ask her carrier if they unlock iPhones and if she qualifies for this service. -

My daughter gave me her old iPhone 3G. I started loading my own info before doing a complete "Reset". My iMac at home now give me a message that it is time to Sync 432 Contacts. They happen to be my daughters contacts. The window has no Cancel or Delete option. How do I get rid of or stop the Sync other than let it go and then start deleting them? Help! Ron
or... put your photos in "My Pictures" in My Documents, and viola, itunes syncs it to the iphone. only one sentence needed =/
maybe im missing your point here, the long paragraph is mindboggling -

I basically got this phone about 2 weeks ago and i cannot download or update anything . I would mind it asking for my sisters apple password but she doesn't know it so how do i take it off ? It will ask for mine then a few seconds later it will ask for hers . In my settings everything is signed in as me but i just don't get why it still ask for her apple id. I have logged out and reset all my settings and it still ask for her apple id. If i can figure out how do i get her password ?
Any apps that she downloaded onto the device are tied to her apple ID. They cannot be transferred to another account. To update those apps, you would either need her password, or you could delete the apps and download them using your own apple id.

My friend gave me her old Iphone 4s..
I need to delete the Icloud account but it prompts that all data will be removed, does that also mean photos?
I have saved all the pictures on my computer and I was trying to save it to my itunes, can I do that through my laptop? I'm kinda new at all this, I've always had android. :/

Will I lose the apps?
yes apps are tied to appleID not phone or computer or anything
one can't sell apps
or transfer them or sell an ios device with apps
because of that
no way around it -
A family member gave our kids their old iphone with music already loaded for them. How do we add the music to our library? It won't transfer purchases from the phone and if I sync it, the music is erased. Can someone walk me through this?
No one here will help you violate iTunes terms of service or steal music.

I gave my wife an ipad 2 she gave me her old ipad how do I change her detail to me and access my email account on her Ipad
This will be I guess the first of many questions
ThanksYou really should download and read the user guide that roaminggnome gave you the link for in the post above.
If you want to totally start from scratch and erase all of her content go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. This removes everything from the device and returns it to out of the box status. You can also restore the iPad as a new device in iTunes and that erases everything as well. This article explains that process.

If you want to rename the iPad, connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Double click on the text of the iPad's name on the left grey source list of iTunes and you can change the name of the iPad. When you are finished typing in the new name, hit the return key on your keyboard. This article explains it for you.

You will want to delete her mail accounts on the iPad if you have not done so already and set up your own mail accounts. This article will tell you how to do that.

my iphone4s died, mom gave me her old 3gs, i had to get a new sim to fit the 3gs, how can I sync all my old contacts? I have a macbook pro, tech told me that it would sync from my icloud but it has not. Thanks!
Syncing the 3GS is exactly the same as syncing the 4S - so just do the same as you've been doing.
How do you normally sync contacts from your Mac to your iPhone? Via iTunes over USB/WiFi, or via iCloud? -
My friend gave me her old ipod without a itunes password how do i update it?
My friend gave me her old ipod without a itunes username or password. How do I update it? I cant get ahold of her. HELP!
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

My mom got the iPad mini for Christmas and she gave me her old iPad but she is still receiving all my messages on her mini. Is there a way to stop her from getting them?
If she is receiving your messages - then you must have somehow setup the iPad to use your iPhone number or your email address on her new iPad. How you did that is beyond me unless you set up her new Mini for her and used your Apple ID on it.
On her iPad got to - Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at>uncheck your phone number or email address of that is what is being used for the contact number. -
my niece gave me her old ipod touch 8GB and her passlock code. It is stuck in the "connect to itunes" mode and won't let me even access the slide to unlock. How do I fix??
You will need to Restore it as a New Device...
Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

My daughter gave me her old ipod nano is there a way where i can transfer thie to my name
My daughter gave me her old ipod is there a way i coild change the name to me?
Do you mean change the name of the iPod?
Renaming an iPod, iPhone, iPad or Mac
Or do you mean registering the device to you?
Get the serial number off the back. Log in to http://supportprofile.apple.com, click Add product and enter the serial number. If it says it is registered to another ID have your daughter sign in at the above webpage and remove it.
