HT5639 I get a message that says "The installer disc could not be found." when trying to install Windows 8 from a downloaded .img or .iso file. How do I get Bootcamp to recognize it?

I didn't illegally download the file. I go to the University of Oklahoma and they offered a free download of Windows 8 to students. I downloaded the installation file, but Bootcamp won't let me install Windows 8. What do I do?

and iso file is a carbon copy of an optical disc burning it to an optical disc will make it act the role of the
optical install disc it was made from

  • Getting error message "the requested item could not be found" when trying to install Firefox on my android.

I had to uninstall Firefox for Android because I was having problems logging in to sync. I got a support e-mail to uninstall and reinstall because the sync issue had been fixed. I uninstalled the Firefox app and then when I tried to reinstall it I get the error message on my phone "the requested item could not be found." HELP!

Some supported phones are not displaying Firefox in the Market for some reason. We're still investigating this. You can check if your phone is supported here:
    https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android
and then download the app directly from here:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/4.0b3/android-r7/multi/
(Note: If your phone is from AT&T, you will have to search for instructions on "sideloading" the APK file, since AT&T disables the option to install from non-Market sources.)

  • I tried to play my iTunes and suddenly get an error message that says "The song (name) could not be used because the original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it now?"  It happens on all my tunes and each one I select ends up with a "?"

I tried to play my iTunes and suddenly get an error message that says "The song (name) could not be used because the original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it now?"  It happens on each tune I select and a "?" appears beside the song.  Does this sound familiar to anyone?

    I was not complete clear.
Since you never changed the settings in the advanced section of iTunes preferecnes, you have to chech that your music is really in the location setted in the folders reported in the advanced section.  If not you have 2 ways: reset the position of this folders or in the actual disk organisation or in the pointing on the preferences.
If you press the reset button you just give to itunes its default setting as for the position of the music files: probably this will be a good choice if you have never changed any default preference.
But before I would check the folders and see if the songs are really there
In my iTune I have this, and I believe it is the default.

  • Problem - the drop down box says . . . The installer disc could not be found.

On my MacBook with Lion, I am attempting to create a partition and then install Windows XP Professional with service pk 2.  I have successfully downloaded the Windows support from Apple to my extenal flash drive with MS-DOS (FAT32) format.  However, when I go to the next step - Create a Partition for Windows - and insert the XP disk and click Install after the icon is shown on my desktop, I get a dropdown that says . . .  The installer disc could not be found.  Help!

Do you have a bootable Windows installer disc? If you are using Boot Camp 4.0 with your Lion system, you can only install Windows Vista or Win7, but not XP.

  • Boot camp 4.0 getting error the installer disc could not be found

boot camp 4.0 getting error the installer disc could not be found.

See if Windows 8 RP x64 works as an experiment.
    Usually slowest burn speed will.
I am assuming that smething changed but there are I presume a number of other people who have, and folks with new MacBook Air too.

  • The installer disc could not be found?  MacBook Pro - BootCamp

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  I receive the "installer disc could not be found" error in my Boot Camp Assistant (ver. 4.0.3) after I have selected the "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" and "Install Windows 7" tasks, and selected the "Burn a copy to CD or DVD" option in the process of installing Windows on my Mac.  Everything goes smoothly, including the burning onto a disc apparently, until I get to the part where I am told to select the amount of space to partition and press the "Install" button below with the disc in.  I do this, but after a minute of nothing happening once I've pressed "Install", I receive the "installer disc could not be found" error.  I have no idea what to do, still being somewhat new to my MacBook Pro, as well as having followed all the of the instructions.  Help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!
Also, I've already tried burning at the slowest speed (2x) and have tried both CDs and DVDs.

It's not so much the Windows OS as it is what Mac OS your using to in stall Windows on.
As of Lion and Mountain Lion (10.7 and 10.8) you can only use Windows 7 (until Windows 8 comes out and Apple updates the Boot Camp drivers for it) because Boot Camp only has drivers for W7 and is not backward compatible to XP.
W7 and XP is kinda like OS-9 and OS-10, two major differences.
Boot Camp is just a series of Windows drivers Apple makes for compatibilities reasons for the hardware Apple uses.
Basically if your computer came with 10.7 installed _brand new_ your stuck with W7 and BCamp v4.0. If you have any other previous Apple OS then you can use the v3.0 version of Boot Camp and W-XP.
Depending on when the computer was made it may be able to use XP, say, if you bought a computer a week after Lion came out but they hadn't upgraded the computer hardware yet you can usually use the previous MacOS and Windows version if compatible. So you will still have the "old" hardware. Any new Mac OS that comes out will be installed on any computers sold after that time.
Also, some people have had some success installing XP on newer machines if you do a Yahoo/Google search on the internet, depending on what machine you have you. It may take quite a bit of work tho. if you really need XP still, Windows 7 Pro does have an XP emulator as part of it (similar to Rosetta for OS9?)
    Hope this helps....

  • Problem installing windows - 'The installer disc could not be found'

    Hello everyone,
I'd successfully partitioned my hard drive and am now trying to install windows. When I click on 'start installation' in boot camp assistant, there is a delay of 20 seconds and then a message, saying that 'the installer disc could not be found'. This is despite the windows CD showing up in the finder.
I've tried re-booting, re-starting boot camp and removing the CD, to no avail. For what it's worth I've also tried a friends windows CD just in case it is my one causing the problem.
    Any tips?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

I had the same issue with the installer disc not being found by boot camp, I tried multiple times with no luck, tried several windows vista home basic discs and made sure they were bootable, still no luck, finally I got the trial version of parallels, installed windows that way and it worked, the interesting thing is that afterwards, I left the CD I was using in the dvd drive, shut down the computer, next time I started the laptop, it wanted to boot up with the windows installation dvd I left in the drive, I cancelled, started mac os then ran boot camp and it worked fine.
Sounds to me like software issues from apple... I hope you find the solution, all this was very frustrating...

  • "The installer disc could not be found." What the...?

"The installer disc could not be found. Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized."
Trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, maxed out Core i7, RAM, and video, updated OS X Lion (11B26), and SSD. I created a partition via Boot Camp Assistant, downloaded drivers/whatnot via BC Asst. As far as I know, there is nothing wrong with the machine.
Purchased W7U through Parallels, they sent me the disc, started up BC Asst, and I get the above error message.
I can clearly see the disc in Finder. What's the deal?
(I roped myself into Parallels before I realized I didn't need it for what I wanted to do.)

Ask the people that sent or you bought Windows from.
There are extra steps if you have multiple disk drives like SSD and 2nd.
Windows sees OS X and GPT on another drive and won't install but you don't get that far.
Most people want Windows as a guest OS rather than have to dual boot though.
