HT5639 why can i no longer install windows 8 on my 2011 macbook (dual core).

I just recently had to clean off my macbook and reinstall everything. I was successfully running Windows 8 in boot camp. However, when the new bootcamp 5 came it it is telling me that I cannot install Windows 8. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (dual core)
Why? It ran great before!!! Why all of the sudden are you stopping me?!?!?

I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011, and have upgraded to OS X 10.8.3.  I attempted to install Windows 8 via the "Boot Camp Assistant" utility application, and received the "Your Mac only supports Windows 7" message when attempting to "download the latest Window support software from Apple."
According to this Apple support article, the early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro should be capable of running Windows 8 (64-bit) with Boot Camp 5: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
Apparently this is a glitch in the Boot Camp Assistant, as I've read of it affecting even newer MacBooks.  With the "Your Mac only supports Windows 7" message, I was uncertain that Boot Camp Assistant would download the correct set of drivers for use with Windows 8.  Instead I went to this page:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638  and downloaded the Boot Camp Support Software there.  I followed the directions to copy the contents of the downloaded .zip file to the USB flash drive.  Then I used Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows 8 after deselecting the "Download the latest Window support software from Apple" option.  After Windows 8 was installed and opened then I opened the Boot Camp folder on the USB drive and double clicked on "setup.exe".  Windows 8 has since performed flawlessly on my MacBook Pro, so I believe this to be a suitable work around.  Hopefully Apple will soon correct the flaw in the Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Cannot install windows 7 on 2011 macbook air

While attempting to install 64bit Windows 7 on the latest Macbook air, the usb flash drive boots up fine, but i encounter a problem when i click "Install Now".  I receive a message that a CD/DVD drive is needed and that a driver is missing for this.  It allows me to browse for a driver, but will not let me proceed without choosing one.  I am extremely confused, because the Macbook air does not have an optical drive.  Boot camp steps me through creating a bootable flash drive for this reason.  Any help would be appreciated, I have spent far too much time on google.

Wow, that is strange. I installed Win7 Pro 32-bit using this method without incident.  I can imagine what would cause the Win7 setup program to ask for a CD.
I'd recommend recreating the Win7 install disc.

  • After installing Mavericks, why can I no longer delete junk mail on my iMAC Mail program?

After installing Mavericks, why can I no longer delete junk mail on my iMAC Mail program?   Also, mail is sometimes slow to load in mornings on my iMac after it has appeared on my iPhone.  I temporarily solved that by shutting down and reopening mail two or three times.

I have the same problem on my iMac.  Most of what it puts in the "junk folder" is junk.  I delete all of the messages in the folder and they're back the next time I check it.  I have messages in that folder that have were received 2 months ago!  I'm thinking of unchecking "junk folder" in preferences.  Very frustrating.

After installing the update, why can i no longer attach a photo on live messenger?

    In the System Preferences/Printers & Scanners/
    selected this printer.
Selected Print (vs scan) at top of page shown
    Selected Options & Supplies
Under the Options tab, checked the box "HP two-sided printing accessory (Duplex)
And then it worked as advertised
Why in the Hxxl HP would make a user go through that to activate a key feature of a printer is beyond me.  But this printer has some quirks that HP has never fixed through these past 7 years of ownership and driver upgrades to match OSX version upgrades.
    But that's life.

  • Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac?

Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture? This is farcical and a real problem having to email them individually to myself and is totally inefficient time wise compared to previously using image capture! Why change this when it was working well and very quickly until the latest change. Now I have to move files from downloads into an appropriate folder, after emailing each individual edited image to myself, then I have to open in Photoshop and rename the file. This is ludicrous and takes forever to do!

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

Thanks for the reply Arthur. Actually, I just got off the phone with an apple rep telling me you can't downgrade, and that yes, apple actually IS forcing you to use iCloud - if, that is, you actually want to be able to sync your contacts or calendar. Apparently you are special and know something different, so please enlighten the rest of us.

    Here is yet another
If your Mavericks came with anything other than Mavericks pre-installed
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
Also there are a host of other Cloud services you can use. You do not have to use iCloud at all. Although there ARE over 320+ million iCloud presently active, so it is extremely popular with users.

Then reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Make sure you have the Quicktime Player 7 installed.  It was an option when installing Lion.  Or you can get it here: QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.  Install it, reboot and try again.
