HT5666 Java security update 2/19 ... blocked plug-ins?

I downloaded the security update yesterday and now I can't play any videos on any websites. This affects both Safari and Firefox. All I get is a black screen where the video should be and the message "Blocked Plug-In". What do I do now?

If video is the problem then it is more likely you need to update Flash Player, not Java.

I'll assume you mean Flash. If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 5.
    1. If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, sign in to your YouTube account and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    2. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    3. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    4. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    5. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    6. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    7. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • Java security update don't show in software update

My wife macbook pro os 10.7 don't show the java security update in software update

First go to the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and open the program called "Java Preferences." If the system gives you a warning that you need to install Java to use the program then she does not have Java installed. Software Update will only show a Java update if Java is present on the system.

  • Macbook pro 4gb 2.3Ghz core i5, os X 10.6.8 blocked plug ins/have checked safari settings

using macbook pro Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  blocked plug ins mean I cannot access needed info./have checked settings on Safari.  Where check next?

I checked and rechecked whatever I could think of to check.  I have the security updates for my system and that got me to adobe and java.  I redid adobe flash and before downloading rechecked specs to be sure I'd been correct earlier and crossed my fingers and downloaded/installed it again.  So far, the multiple "blocked plug in" signs have retreated.  I thank you very much both for the help and especially the support--I'm not so hot at trying the unknown (for me) on a computer even now!  Am saving this for future use should I need it again.

  • HT5271 "blocked plug-ins"?? Need assistance.

Updated operating system now getting "blocked plug-ins" on everything...Help

In Safari Preferences, see the following:
You will also need the latest Adobe Flash Player plug-in (12.0.0.44), or due to security issues, the built-in Apple malware protection will block older versions.

blocked plug ins, how do i stop this?

After installing Flash Player, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in  System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
You can also try these illustrated instructions from C F McBlob to perform a full "clean install", which will resolve the "Blocked Plug-in" message when trying to update via the GUI updater from Adobe.
Use the FULL installer for 12.0.0.44:  Flash Player 12 (Mac OS X)
And the instructons are here: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf

  • How do I unblock Blocked Plug-ins?

I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Safari.  Now during some internet searches, the message "Blocked Plug-in" appears on my screen.  This never happened before I installed the new version of Safari.  How can I unblock all plug-ins?

I updated Flash and still have blocked plug ins - what now?

  • Still getting blocked plug ins after downloading latest flash player to macbook

Am still getting blocked plug ins on video content after downloading latest flash player (as requested to do) to macbook please help

Can you check to see if you have "enable plug-ins" checked in Safari's preferences dialog, under the security tab? If not, enable it and check.
It seems to be a browser specific issue. Try a different browser like chrome or firefox, check if it works there.

  • Keep getting "blocked plug-ins for Adobe Flash despite installing new version

Keep getting "blocked plug-ins for Adobe Flash despite installing new version

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
