HT5824 can I stop contacts from going into icloud?

Other than removing my contacts from my iPhone 4S, can I stop my contacts from going into iCloud?

You could simply turn off iCloud contacts sync on your iPhone in "Settings > iCloud > Contacts".

  • Importing contacts from aol into iCloud

I have imported contacts from AOL into iCloud.  The nature of AOL's contacts results in many email addresses listed as "undefined."  I culled through the undefineds either deleted the entry or added it to an existing entry.  BUT NOW the "undefineds" are back!  Am I missing a setting or is there a way to make sure the "undefineds" do not keep popping up?
    Thanks

I think the point of backups is to have your data available should you need it in a device crash, etc.
You can backup using your DM and then move the *.ipd file to your Media Card. Should you be travelling, and have a crisis, you can move that IPD file to any computer or laptop and do a restore.
I am not aware of a way to import your contacts from the Media Card, however.

  • How can I stop contacts from my iPad from syncing to my iphone?

I have recently started using an iPhone 4 and I have been using the iPad 3rd gen. for almost a year. The only contacts that I have on my iPad are my clients, but I don't want them on my phone. How can I either make a group file for my clients or stop them from syncing to my phone all together?

I used the following method, which means that your contacts are permanently on your iPhone (the problem with syncing to Gmail in order to 'transfer' contacts is that you need the gmail account to be active all the time in order to see the contacts), take an example of transferring contacts from Sony to iPhone:
    1. Transfer all of your contacts to the Sony Experia's internal storage. It will create a vCard file.
    2. Connect your Sony Experia to a pc
    3. Ensure that you can see the Sony Experia's internal storage files, and identify the location of the vCard file (for me it was in system/PIM)
    4. Set up an email account on your iPhone
    5. Email the vCard file to the email account on your iPhone
    6. Open the vCard file attachment on your iPhone
    7. You should now see your contacts and automatically have the option (in the same screen) to 'Add all xxx Contacts' where xxx is the number of contacts in the vCard file
    Hope that helps.

  • How do you stop pictures from going into different rolls?

Everytime I transfer a picture into iPhoto it goes into a different roll. When it comes to finding these pictures, it can take a long time. Can anyone tell me how to make pictures all go to the same place?

Each import creates a new roll. You can't change this behavior.
You can edit your rolls. Select Library from the Source Pane. Go to View > Sort Photos > by Film Rolls. If rolls are closed you can Option-click on one roll's disclosure triangle to open all of them at once. Open the info pane at the lower left of the iPhoto window. Now any time you select a roll by clicking its title, you can edit its info in the info pane. You can edit the title, date, and comments. You can select photo(s) and move to another roll by dragging until a roll's title is highlighted, then drop. You can combine rolls or create new rolls.
I use large memory cards with my camera and import photos little by little, as I take them. I keep the photos from one card together in one roll. So each time I import, I immediately drag the new roll up to the existing roll for that memory card. This places those photos into the roll with the others, and deletes the newly created roll.

  • Contacts not going into iCloud from MacBook.

My contacts APPEAR to be missing from my address book on my iPhone 4 (5.0.1), but they are invisible. I can choose a contact when starting a new message, but the address book itself seems to only contain my name. In iCloud, my address book is also empty, save for my name.
I can't find where the problem can be fixed. In iTunes there is no Contacts sinc and in Contacts I can't find a way to tell it to upload to iCloud. I'm a newbie to Apple.....

OK. So last night I got an invitation from Apple to create an @me.com email address. When I bought my Macbook Pro this spring I created "[email protected]". Fine, I thought, I'll create 'another' since they invited me. So I followed the steps and created "[email protected]". POOF! My contacts appear on my phone. Thankyou I thought. So this morning I get out my MbP and open up MAIL to add [email protected] to my accounts. No go. I'm thinking I need to deleat the [email protected] off of my iPhone and off of my MAIL on my MbP. I'm afraid to do that since I have the contacts showing up on my iPhone now. The mail in iCloud works now too - since the [email protected] was created. Hmmm... Photos still not showing up in iCloud, but the stream is working on my iPhone.
Well, waiting to see has worked for me in the past, so I think I'll do the "wait and see" remedy again. I'll leave the [email protected] on both my phone and laptop and leave the [email protected] on the phone.
Learning all this stuff is neat, if a little scary, but it's worth it since I don't want to become a dinasour. "LOL" as they say.....

  • Can I restore contacts from an earlier iCloud backup?

    Hi
I hope someone can help me...!
My son had contacts syncing via iCloud on his iPod so ended up with all the contacts from my iPhone.  At his request I removed all my work/social contacts, just leaving on his iPod the few for family members that he needed.
I've just realised that of course my iPhone has now synced with the updated contacts on his iPod and all 250+ work/social contacts have gone.
I have tried restoring and merging from iCloud but the latest backup only contains the family contacts.
Is it possible to access an earlier version of the iCloud backup, or does it only store the very latest version?
Thanks for any suggestions you may be able to give me.

How about if I go into iTunes - Info - Advanced - Replace information on this iPhone (and select Contacts)?
    It says:
During the next sync only, iTunes will replace the selected information on this iPhone with information from this computer.
Where does that contacts info come from? Is it downloaded from iCloud or does iTunes on my MacBook Air store an earlier backup of this data?
    Grasping at straws here!
    Thanks for any help...

  • Importing contacts from pst into iCloud using Outlook 2010

I am trying to import contacts from a PST file into iCloud by importing it with Outlook 2010's standard import tool.  I have set up iCloud on my desktop and have a node in my Outlook 2010 Contacts menu for iCloud.  There are about 2000 contacts in the PST, but the import completes with only 511 contacts every time.  The pop-up message at the end says "some items cannot be copied.  they were either moved or deleted, or access was denied."
How can I troubleshoot this?  Or, is there an alternate way to bring these contacts into iCloud for use also in Outlook and my iPhone 4?
    Glenn

i'm not sure this is possible. as far as i know you can only get contacts onto the ipod from either outlook OR windows contacts (which i think is only available with vista.)
there is an app called funambol, which will allow you to sync your contacts to an internet server, your ipod, and your mobile phone, using wifi.

  • Can I import contacts and calendar into iCloud?

Here's my situation:  I have a ton of contacts and calendar items on an old Powerbook G4. It's old enough that I can't upgrade to OSX Lion, so therefore I can't use it to sync with iCloud. But I am getting an iPhone 4s, and want to figure out how I can get those contacts and calendars on the phone, hopefully using iCloud as the intermediary.
Is there a way in iCloud to do a one-time manual import of a contacts or calendar file? I could then synch the new 4s with iCloud. I'm eventually going to get a new desktop, but in the meantime need to use the 4s as a standalone device.

  • ICloud Contacts on iPad are Not the Same as the local Contacts on my iPhone..how can i put all my Contacts from iPhone into iCloud?

I want to have all my local iPhone Contacts in the cloud to have them also on my iPad.
iCloud only saved 36 from 225 total Contacts. My IPhone Contacts are saved on the iPhone itself, but how can I Transfer them into the cloud?

The Mac uses Mac OS X and iDevices use iOS. These are two different operating systems and the apps must be written for each operating system specifically, even when the apps go by the same name, such as the iWork apps, they are two ifferent versions of the same app for the two different platforms.
So, as an example, Safari has been written for three different operating systems, Mac OS X, iOS and Windows. And the Safari apps, as similar as they are visually, are not interchangeable for the different platforms.

  • How can I stop iMessages from going to *all* of our devices?

As many households do, we share the same AppleID so that we can share apps and information easily.  With iOS5, now we iMessage each other for free, BUT all other iMessages that we send to other iOS5 users are also blasted out to all other iOS5 devices.  My husband doesn't want to see all my texts to other people, but now there is NO WAY to send a normal text to other iOS5 users...it will only go out as an iMessage.  Is the only solution to get a separate AppleID for my husband and then buy all of our apps again for him?  That would be a huge pain, essentially requiring him to erase his iPhone and iPad and start over.  Or do I disable iMessages for him?  Is there any way to distinguish between different users within the same AppleID?

Everyone can still use the same Apple ID. What you need to do is go into - "Settings" , "Messages", "Receive At", and add a different Email for each user for where they can be reached for messages at. Once you have added a new Email to each device delete the original Email that was there which should have been the same as your Apple ID. Then when you send a new message, send the message to the Email for that person that was just added to their iPhone. There is no need for each family member to create their own Apple ID just to use iMessage. Each family member would only need to create their own Apple ID if everyone wanted to use iCloud and not have all family members data, contacts, calendars, etc sync together. If you are also using FaceTime between iPhones do the the same thing in the FaceTime settings.

Export your Thunderbird contacts on a Mac or PC in vCard format.
Then go to www.icloud.com (Mac or PC). Sign in with your iCloud account, open iCloud Contacts, choose Import vCard from the pop-up menu, which appears in the lower left corner after clicking on the Settings icon.

  • How can I stop my MBA going into Time Machine every time I restart?

Every time I restart by MacBook Air, it starts Time Machine and I have to cancel out of it before I can start working.
My iMac and my wife's MacBook Pro (both also running Lion) do not do this.
Any suggestions on how to stop this happening?
I have an MBA running Lion 10.7.2.

Check that Time Machine isn't in your Login Items:
     > System Preferences > Users & Groups | Login Items
If it is, highlight it, then press the minus '-' at the bottom.
