You can't, not until it goes back online. You can try looking for it and/or calling your number to see if an honest person who found it would answer.
Place it in lost mode (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f0165). You will be notified by email if and when it goes back online. Then change your iCloud password to prevent someone who may find it from taking over your iCloud account: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2617.

Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

i had to restore my iphone last month because i had accidentally clicked the home and shut off button at the same time. it ended up making me restore my iphone. i lost everything. pictures, contacts, apps, songs, everthing. after i had gotten all my stuff back, i took a picture and everything was fine. a couple hours later, i open my camera to take another picture and it wont open it. it will twitch. i have no idea what to do. i have updated my software on my phone and itunes and im stumped. please help me.

Police don't "track down" lost items, per se. They'll keep your information on file in the event that someone finds your iPod and turns it in. Otherwise, there's nothing the police can or will do in regards to finding lost property.
Sorry, but your iPod is most likely gone for good.

In Find my iphone apps. You can see that the phone is online but location services off. How that happened?
You'll have to turn location services on in order to track it on a map. To do this, go to Settings>Privacy>Location Services.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely. -
I've lost my iPhone5 like 40 hours ago. I already turned the Lost mode on with Find my iphone app. But my phone has no data plan so it could not connect to the internet at all. I reported to the police, too. What else can I do? Can anybody advise?

Almost completely accurate. They can still wipe the device by restoring using iTunes, but then the device will be in the Setup Assistant and stop at the 'Activation Lock' screen. Then not only is the previous user data removed completely, but it will not activate past that screen. -

Did you ever enable Find My iPhone on your iPhone in Settings > iCloud?
If you did not, you're out of luck. You will not be able to locate your iPhone using any app.
If you did, simply log on to iCloud on any computer at http://www.icloud.com and go to the Find My iPhone link. -
