HT5824 Trying to manage iCloud storage on my phone

I am trying to free up space on my phone.  I have deleted most of my pictures and all but one of my videos, but that hasn't made a difference.  My pics and videos took up the bulk of the the storage.  What else do I need to do other than buying more storage?

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear.  I'm referring to iCloud storage, not phone capacity.  My phone has enough memory for all the stuff I have on it.
iCloud Storage and Backup is telling me it's almost full.  I have two options, delete some data or buy more storage.  The bulk of what is being backed up are my pics and videos and I have removed most of those from my device.  That hasn't really changed my storage capacity.  My data is not turned on,so it is not being backed up. That is not part of the problem.
I don't know what else to do.

Confirm that you have no big icloud backups from your iOS devices
@icloud.com email is a big scorer too.
if you have many, many emails on icloud.com.
you probably should delete some of them or forward to a different email address you have. and afterwards delete those mails to have storage released
iCloud Storage depends mainly from iCloud Backup of iOS Backups, Mail Storage, Documents in the iCloud
contacts, calendars and notes are mostly not that big for storage as you might think.
music, apps and purchased items from itunes / appstore are not involved for calculation of icloud storage and they are not included in iCloud Backups of your iOS Devices.

Never fear, help is here Bnewell! I would be delighted to review options for you. Have you recently utilized VZW Cloud? If so, the remaining 10MB could be used with the items that you've backed up. Do you see an indicator for current available memory? Please keep us posted, thanks!

  • HT4847 is there a unified way to manage iCloud storage for multiple devices

i have multiple idevices and the same account being used across multiple of these devices. I want to manage my storage from a central place. is this possible.

delete content in iCloud from devices with out physically accessing the devices. I want to get a global view of which device is using what aspect of cloud and if possible, clean up the photo stream on the cloud itself and push it to all devices.

  • How to manage iCloud storage?

My iphone and ipad say that the storage is full and it is not doing the back up or can't perform any upgrades to them because of the storage. How can I manage the storage?

You can manage a device's backup by going into Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > 'device name' and change what apps are being backed up from it (on your iPad you can only manage your iPad's backup, you will need to do similar on your phone for its backup)

  • How do I manage iCloud storage for videos?

Hello, my first question to Community..
I have recently purchased 25GB storage from iCloud, and in turn, i then attempted to download 2 movies (rental from iTunes).  One of the movies downloaded fine and is available for playback, however the other will not download - a message displays telling me I do not have enough storage space.  When viewing storage options I can see 15.5GB of 25 is available, however the iPad device storage says it has only 2GB available space.
Now I would expect a movie to be approx 1-2GB in size, but not sure if I can use the iCloud space for such a movie (rental) download or not.  All advice welcomed!  Thank you

No, you can not use the iCloud storage space for movie rentals. You have to free up space directly on your device to download the movie.

  • HT201318 I just purchased more iCloud storage because my phone is saying it cannot complete an update without it, I went through and deleted a bunch of stuff beforehand and nothing changed so I thought I had to buy it. But nothing is showing that it has c

I just purchased more storage for my phone because I needed a software update and it said I couldn't do it until I purchased more cloud storage, so I did. Now nothing is showing up and still cannot update my software? Does it take time to show up?

Sometimes it does.  However, adding more iCloud storage doesn't give you any more space on your phone if that's what you're trying to do.  To create more space on your phone, you have to delete of sync something off of it.  You could, for example, you could delete all your music, then perform the update, then sync your music back to your phone using iTunes.

  • Icloud storage for new phone

I just switched from the 4s to the 5s and on the 4s I had bought additional icloud storage but now the 5s says I dont have enough storage to backup.  I can;t imagine I need to pay another $20 to upgrade because I switched phone but not sure how I switch to the new phone so I can back up.
    Thanks

Be sure you are using the same Apple iD for iCloud that you used on the old device. Did you remove the old device backups from iCloud?

  • I received "Not Enough Storage" and my iPad couldn't be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available.  I can't go to settings or power down because the touch screen isn't responding.  I did buy more iCloud storage with my phone,

I received a message stating Not Enough Storage.  This iPad cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available.  The touch screen will not let me select settings to correct this.  I did purchase more storage via my iPhone, but I still cannot get my iPad working.

    Try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • If I purchase more icloud storage on my phone does it also support my iPad?

If I purchase extra icloud storage does that support my phone and iPad?

    Hi Lmfloe,
If those devices are signed onto the same iCloud account, yes. The additional storage applies to the account - not a specific device.

  • Managing Icloud storage

Every time I try to back up my phone it says I do not have enough storage so I delete a ton and the size of the back up doesn't change. I tried restarting my phone but it is the same every time. Should I delete an old I clould back up?

    1) Plug your device into your computer and open iTunes
    2) Backup the device to your computer, instead of iCloud
    3) delete the iCloud backup subsequently.

  • ICloud storage full on iphone, but deleted almost everything and grows larger!  iPad is fine with same iCloud acct.  can I delete iPhone backup then turn it back on without loosing iCloud data?

Icloud storage full.  Can I delete my iPhone icloud backup with keeping my iCloud data unharmed (since my iPad has iCloud storage turned on, and I wouldn't be turning iCloud off on my iPad). BTW, I use iTunes for music and photo albums; iCloud for contacts, notes, etc. Then turn iCloud back up back on on iphone to see if I had a problem file and the storage changes?
ICloud storage full.  I deleted messages, moved the camera roll to my PC, deleted Safari bookmarks, turned off almost every app in Managing  iCloud storage.  I turned off the backup, restarted iCloud backup and did a manual backup yet my storage gets larger yet.
Makes no sense.  I have a iPhone and iPad. It's the iPhone showing this large iCloud storage  3.6 GB (when the iPad has more apps and only 716MB).

ANSWER to my Question above:  YES.
I took a chance, as I could find NO information regarding my question, and DELETED MY ICLOUD BACKUP (not my ICLOUD account).  I then turned ON my ICLOUD BACKUP and whew!  It plummeted from 4.8 GB full out of 5 GB TO: 1.2 GB full out of 5 GB.
I even turned on more settings to back up and it still shows 1.2 GB full in ICLOUD, 3.8 available.  No more emails to say I am running out of ICLOUD space.
[For what its worth if others are getting messages their ICLOUD is almost full, and you don't have all that much on ICLOUD.  Then when you even delete apps, messages, camera roll, turn off almost ALL icloud back ups and features the ICLOUD backup grows even larger.  My ICLOUD kept increasing in size while I was decreasing my ICLOUD storage in Managing storage.]
(All my ICLOUD contacts, notes, Safari bookmarks, were returned in place.)

  • When I try to upgrade icloud storage I get an "unknown error" message. I can't install the software upgrade or back up my phone. HELP!

    Need help with icloud storage

Not sure if you are trying to upgrade iCloud storage to make more room for the upgrade, but that won't help you. If you do not have enough room on your device for the upgrade, then you have to delete some things off of your device. You can also try to do the upgrade via iTunes on the computer you sync with. A direct upgrade does not require as much memory as a Wifi upgrade.
Upgrading iCloud storage only provides more storage for your backups and for your iCloud sync'd items like messages, contacts, etc.
Until the iCloud Drive is fully functional, iCloud will not help you to increase the memory capacity of your device.
And, right now, the iCloud servers may just be overloaded with activity.
    Cheers,
    GB
