tired of only
access iphone  - on week 8 of 16 of this..... Curse.

Sounds like you have a MobileMe account and possibly you're also have RSS Feeds active. If so, then I suspect that your computer's confused because it's trying to run the MacBook stuff and it's not compatible with the iMac.

  • Annoying login keychain request

Hi - I'm new to Mac computers and not very proficient in computerspeak anyway so would be grateful for guidance. Almost every time I start to type anything, especially in Safari, up pops this annoying keychain request and the typing starts to appear in the box. I click on cancel to get rid of it -it pops up again immediately - click again and its gone. It came up 6 times alone while I was trying to set up my Apple identity to access to this forum. I have never come across anything like this before on ordinary computers, but it really making me wish I had not switched to Mac. Can't find any mention of what to do in Help. Please - how do i get rid of this annoying pop-up? What's it for anyway? I have read Help on keychains and I don't see why I need one for any of the applications available if I am the only one with access to my laptop?
ps - I found a similar question asked a couple of times recently on the forum and no-one answered.

Key chain access is a pretty useful little application when it works properly.
Essentially it stores various passwords you need to access different parts of your system, or to log on to your internet or email provider without having to fill in the passwords each time you want to access these things.
You don't say what the keychain access is actually requesting of you.
Sometimes it asks if you want to add a password to it when you access a website such as facebook, or any site that requires people to log on to access it.
If you fill in an on line form, it might ask you if you want to put this info into key chain so you don't have to input it again another time.
I don't pretend to know much about key chain and there are probably power users out there that make much better use of it than I.
But generally speaking whenever it asks me if I want to do something, I say yes and so far no problems.

  • Constant Keychain Request Each Time iTunes Opens

Each time iTunes opens up it asks me for the password to my keychain. I don't recall it doing this before. I recently did a clean install of Tiger and brought my PBG4 up to 10.4.10, and re-installed all my apps. I updated to iTunes 7.6.2.
Here's the situation. I use a cron job to open an AppleScript(s) and that AppleScript tells iTunes to open and play a specific play list. It used to work great, for years as a matter of fact.
(Most of my library is composed of CD's of mine I've digitized, songs I've made myself on the computer, and a minimal (~few hundred) songs, I've purchased from the iTunes Store.)
In the AM, energy saver wakes the computer and runs a script to play a playlist of bird songs, I highly recommend it! In the past, after an iTunes update, the lawyer-language dialog would always throw a monkey wrench in the works, if I didn't open up iTunes first and accept the license. (In other words iTunes would open, but the legal mumbo jumbo dialog would halt all iTunes prorgress.)
However, the problem that's occurred the past few days is that EVERY TIME iTunes opens up, and my keychain is locked, iTunes won't do a darn thing until I type in my keychain password and then iTunes does some "phone home" thing. This is totally bogus. EVERY TIME!
I am considering having to downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes to avoid this, since I don't recall it happening before.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Help?
This is a laptop, and I have it set to lock keychains on sleep. I also set keychains to lock after a certain amount of time. This is a bit of a security measure and I won't change it. In the past iTunes NEVER needed to connect to the store during initialization.
Imagine that in order for your clock radio to ring the alarm, or play music in the morning, you had to get up and turn it on yourself, this is what I am facing. Rediculous.
Fix? Work around? Help? Other? Thanks in advance!

    A bit more info...
iTunes is authorized, the computer is authorized.
    And
Even if I hit "cancel" in the Keychain password dialog request, WITHOUT typing in my password, iTunes will play anything from my library, stuff I've bought and my own stuff.
Why is iTunes halting everytime right after it opens with that darn Keychain dialog?!
My goal is for iTunes to work like it used to. To initialize and open up without modal dialogs, and await commands.
What can I do? Downgrade iTunes is the only thing I can think of...
    TIA

  • Keychain Request Problems

I copied the contents of my MacBook Pro hard drive to an iMac while I was having my drive fixed. That iMac now prompts me regularly for access to my keychain. Sometimes the request comes from "PubSubAgent," sometimes "dotmacsyncclinet," sometimes from something else. How can I resolve this?

  • TS3988 iCloud is closed. i log in and a keychain requests a password. no known passwords work and icloud will not open.

icloud is closed. I cannot login. system asks for a keychain password. how can I open icloud?

Try resetting your password. Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com; click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.

  • Keychain requests a password every time I open Safari or Mail???

So... it is as it states..
Whenever I turn on my computer and start Safari or Mail, I get this message:
"Safari want to use the "login" keychain."
    Password:
...not a prob, i know the password.... but WHY????? Stop!!!
Under the Details menu, it says:
    Keychain: login.keychain
    Application: Safari
    Samething happens in mail...
Anyone know how to resolve this issue?
    Cheers

OK... not sure if this will help your situation or not but it did fix the problem on my end. Go to the applications folder and RIGHT click on Safari. Choose "Get Info" from the contextual menu. Under the "Sharing and Permissions" item look for your user name. In my case it was not there only system, admin, and everyone. Really not important that your user name is there but it helps to fix the problem as you will see... click the plus sign and then add your user name to the list with read & write permissions, then click the red button at the top of the window.
Now go to Keychain Access and open it, select the menu item "Keychain Access" and scroll down to "Keychain First Aid". In the window that comes up select repair instead of verify and enter your password. It should come back with everything repaired. Close the program.
Next, open Disk Utility, select your system volume and repair permissions. When it finishes you will probably notice an item in the repair log that states "ACL found but not expected on Applications/Safari.app". Close the program.
Open Safari. You should not receive a login to keychain now. Everything should finally be back to normal.
    Hope this helps!

  • TS3276 I keep getting a keychain request and don't know my keychain password

I am getting all kinds of messages asking for a keychain but I don't recall setting one up.  How do I deal with this?

    “Local Items” keychain prompt?
    This may help.

  • Keychain requests keep popping up

I am using a MacBook Pro with OS X Mavericks 10.9.   After installing Mavericks I was having trouble with keychain.  After taking my computor to a Mac Service Center he Bypassed my old keychain we installed a new one and now I can use my computor.  I get pop up windows now asking to use my keychain and I have to clear these before continuing.  Calendar Agent, Address book, icloud helper, are the main culprets.  How can I get these cleared?

Is it asking for the Local Items keychain? If so, open up Finder and click Go on the top menu bar then select Go To Folder. Type in ~/Library/Keychains and press Go. In here you will see a folder with a series of numbers and letters separated by hyphens. Delete this folder and then try restarting the computer.

  • Why so many requests for keychain password in osx mountain lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have been deluged with requests for keychain login password (which is the same as my user password).  I was getting requests from assistantd (sic) as well as osx itself.  I think the assistantd requests have stopped since I turned off dictation and facetime.  I have verified the keychain and even ran repair keychain even though verify found no problems.  Ideas?

I have encountered the same issue.  I upgraded to 10.8 from 10.6.9 days ago, and I receive a keychain password request every 10-15 minutes (I know this after recording them in an effort to determine the issue). The requests vary, and are not perfectly timed.  I went to a local Apple Store yesterday to request some help, and a Genius repaired my keychain, zapped my PRAM, and booted from the 10.8 startup partition to run the following on my startup HD: Disk Utility repair, Disk Permissions repair, and resetpassword from the terminal.  These did not stop the keychain requests.
There's no corresponding message or trigger listed in the Console.  I have noticed the following message occur sometimes within ~3 minutes after a keychain request:
    8/5/12 3:33:42.154 PM assistantd[6226]: <Error>: AceConnection - NSStreamEventErrorOccurred <__NSCFInputStream: 0x7fe2ac027520>, error = Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=54 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Connection reset by peer", domain = NSPOSIXErrorDomain, code = 54

Any ideas from anyone?  It's actually difficult to work with all of these keychain requests.

What OS are your running? If you can access your user library, you can go to Keychains/login.keychain and move it to your desktop. Restart and a new login keychain should be created. If successful, delete the one from your desktop.

  • Loading a Machine Certificate into System Keychain

Does anyone know how to load a machine certificate (with a private key) into the System keychain?
I can load the certificate if it doesn't have a private key, but then Internet Connect won't recognize it as a valid machine certificate. It seem Internet Connect only looks in the shared System Keychain for certificate for the L2TP over IPSec certificate authenticated protocol.
I tried manually loading a Keychain that had a machine certificate in it already, but I ran into the old problem of the System Keychain requesting a password that nobody knows and when racoon tries to get the certificate from the System keychain it can't and fails.
    mtennes@asher:>>sudo /usr/sbin/systemkeychain -v -t
    Testing system unlock of /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
(If you are prompted for a passphrase, cancel)
    System unlock is NOT working
If I create a fresh System keychain that can be unlocked automatically I can't load a valid machine certificate with a private key into the System keychain, I can however load that same certificate into any keychain I create or event the X509Anchors keychain, but of coarse Internet Connect doesn't look there.
    mtennes@asher:>>sudo rm -rf System.keychain
    mtennes@asher:>>sudo /usr/sbin/systemkeychain -v -C
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain installed as system keychain
    mtennes@asher:>>sudo /usr/sbin/systemkeychain -v -t
    Testing system unlock of /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
(If you are prompted for a passphrase, cancel)
    System unlock is working
    Any ideas?
PowerMac G5 2.7GHz DP   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   thawte Web Of Trust Notary

    How about using
    sudo systemkeychain -v -k /Library/Keychains/System.keychain -C "password"
where “password” is the new keychain password that you want to give to the System keychain?
That way you should be able to unlock the System.keychain to add whatever you need to add to it, because now you know the password.

  • Changed my short user name, now getting endless "allow" requests

I have changed my short user name a while back and noticed a few expected issues, fixed some permissions, had added a group containing my old username and the new one, all is fine.
I noticed in the last couple of days ago after changing some sharing settings, that now I'm getting a flood of keychain requests. I have repaired the key chain, sync'd with me.com and still get requests, here and there. How can I get them all resolved?
My keychain is unlocking properly when I login. I have seen some flakiness, but on the whole, just annoying few remaining requests coming. Ideas?

I think you misunderstood. The operation of changing my short user name went fine. I used that note you refer to on apple support, but also found this article, which seems to cover all levels of the process, giving you an understanding of what the issues of each approach are: http://www.macworld.com/article/132693/2008/03/changeshort The author indicates that Apple has worked tirelessly on the issue of changing the short user name and this came off without a hitch.
What I'm experiencing is that I have a keychain access issue which I experience only on one of my snow leopard systems. It will likely go away if I completely replace my mobile me sync on that machine. I'll try that and see.

  • Mail keychain

I just installed 10.4. and upgraded to 10.4.11.
got 2 problems related to keychain
1- Mail and ichat automatically launch when I boot, but now I keep getting keychain request for ichat, mail when they launch. How do I get rid of this?
2-Furthermore, when I send out an e-mail I get that "unable to verify SSL server smtp.pacbell.yahoo.com". I have 3 options :1-show certificate, 2- cancel, 3- continue. I click continue and mail sends the message wihout a problem.
This 2nd problem ony hapens once at startup or if I quit and relaunch mail. How do I get rid of this annoying message ????
I checked the SSL in the mail>preferences>outgoing mail server>server port and everything is correct.
    What can I do?
I looked into the keychain access.... but Don't want to erase something by mistake!
    michel

In Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information
Remove the password from the password field. This causes Mail.app to prompt for password when receiving email. If you don't supply the password when Mail.app checks for new mail, it goes into offline mode (note that a person would still be able to read existing email just not new mail because Mail.app won't get new messages without the password)
In Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information
Choose "Edit server list" from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): drop down list. In the new window that opens click the Advanced tab and remove the password from there. This will cause Mail.app to prompt for a password when sending email.
I don't know of a way to "lock" the application itself - sorry. Also to keep people from reading important existing email, you might want to look into using s/mime encryption (plenty of discussion here) and force keychain to prompt for password before decrypting a message.

  • Remembering password request

I want to stop seeing "do you want to remember your password for this site" (paraphrased). I have a password manager that I am totally happy with, and the keychain request keeps popping up during my logons. Thanks in advance.
    Fred

That may well stop many, but it is a nice feature in Safari to more quickly provide login data than a separate piece of software. I use 1Password on my computer, but I also provide the same information to Safari when it is solicited. I find it very convenient when I don't need all the additions provided by 1Password. Plus Safari provides duplicates of login data I use most frequently.

  • ICloud keychain couldn't be restored

    Hi
    I got this problem since 10.10 .
When I used iCloud keychain setup ( got SMS form apple 4 digit and type on my Mac ) still this message "icloud keychain couldn't be restored because there was a problem communicating with iCloud" .
    any idea ?
    please help Thanks .
PS. sorry for my bad English.

    @hesbond
Do you have alternative devices that uses iOS 8 like on iPad/mini or iPhone? If yes, do this.
    Step 1
    - Sign out all your icloud accounts in any of your devices and computers
    - Make 1 device (iPhone or iPad) that will lead all of icloud keychain request. Make sure your phone number is existing too.
    Step 2
    - I prefer iPad or iPhone (iOS 8), and sign-in using your default account
    - Check if the keychain is off, then turn it on
    - Once it on, configure to create new 4 digit code. Again, do not use the old. Create new code.
    - Fill up the phone number and your iCloud password.
    - Your device now enabled the keychain and will approve any request from other device.
    Step 3
    - Go to your desktop, System Preferences > iCloud > Keychain (will noticed, it is unchecked)
    - Click Options and request approval, Do not "Use code".
    - Once it done, Go to your device (iPad or iPhone), approve the request by filling-up the password
    - Your keychain is active on your desktop.
    * Do the same thing on Step 2, if you would like to have your desktop as your default request approval from all devices or leave it in your phone.
** If you change phone number, make sure to update your keychain.
Hope this help. And I figured this out just today, Dec 16, 2014 : 10am (Philippine Time)
