HT5901 ibooks author won't delete

Hi,
I deleted a section of text from my ibooks author document,  save the document. Reopen it and all is fine, then randomly it keep reinserting the deleted text.
It's really annoying. Has it got something to do with time machine?
Thanks

I also have this problem. I delete the pages and carry on editing a section and occasionally the pages that I'd deleted come back. Annoying is the correct term: it's no disaster, but.

What are you doing BEFORE the pages start deleting?

  • IBooks Author won't open a .ibooks file?

I've been messing around creating a textbook, and saved the file to a folder on my hard drive. The extension of the file is .ibooks and I can see that the file is nearly 40 MB, so I know it's right (I put videos and pictures in it).
But now when I go to open the file, I get a dialogue box that says iBooks Author can't open the file?
    What gives?

Hi there - I have a question about file type and size, and maybe others might want to know about this too:
I'm finishing an ebook I've made using iBooks Author and when I check the file size of the iba file (using Get Info), it says it's 2.14GB, which has me worried as I know the iBookstore accepts only files under 2GB (as well as 2GB being slow to download).
But after reading some comments online I tried saving the file as ibooks, and in this format it's only about 240MB. Which one is the true file size as it will appear on the iBookstore?
I can't seem to open the file with the ibooks extension - is that understandable because, as you said, it's for viewing on the iPad, right?
I really want to hit "publish" this week. Thanks in advance for any replies!

  • My iBooks Author won't open, can't re-install, won't delete....

It doesn't open, won't un-install. Icon looks suspicious. Can anyone help?
    Thank you

Are you unable to drag it from the Applications folder to the trash?

  • HT5071 Book I created with iBooks Author now won't open!

I can see the file with the .ibooks extension in the Finder but iBooks Author won't open it. Help!

iBooks Author won't open an .ibooks file. That file belongs on your iPad, read w/iBooks.
An iBooks Author document for editing is an .iba file.

  • Convedrt existing epub for iBooks Author

I have an existing book in both .epub and .prc formats, successfuly being used in other channels (including Kindle) by lots of readers and purchasers.  No need for me to recreate this from scratch, or import bits and pieces to re-assemble it.  (I also have a PDF version.)
I'd like to create an iBooks version.  iBooks Author won't let me import the .epub or .prc file.
Do I need to convert the .epub file I have, or is it iBooks ready as-is?   If I need to convert/change/alter it, where can I find detailed steps for how to do this?
Note: lots of advice on getting things INTO the .epub format, which isn't what I need.
    Thanks, -R

Can you open in Pages? iBooks Author, as you've found, won't open a standard epub. If you can get it open in Pages or Indesign, then perhaps you can insert Pages chapters or copy/paste from it or ID.
The file must be .ibooks, which is a hybrid epub format from Apple, when distributing/publishing via iBA.
You might just want to not bother with iBooks Author and go straight to signing up for the store, then use iTunes Producer to upload a standard epub. You'll have to work thru the process to see how close you are for that process.
As well, check this link for info on aggregators that may be willing to do the work for you:

  • Download iBooks Author 1.0/1.1?

Upgraded to iBooks Author 2.0 and it has rendered my book file unusable. Is there a way to download iBooks Author 1.0/1.1 after you have upgraded to 2.0?
I have tried the book file with a friend's iBooks Author 1.1 and it still works, so it's something with 2.0 that just doesn't like my files.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response, Tom.
The problem is with the videoclips. I have an 800-page book that has about 30 video and audio clips in it. After upgrading to iBooks Author 2.0, it requires videos be reformatted. However, when doing so, it says all vid clips are not compatible and I need to re-import them. Fine enough. But after that, even though I can move around the file and update content, if I go anywhere near a page with one of said videoclips, the program crashes. Even if select "Not Now" when opening the file, i.e., not reconverting the videoclips, the program still crashes if I touch any page with a videoclip on it.
I've tried everything. I've tried deleting just the clip from a page (it crashes), deleting the whole page with a videoclip on it (it crashes) or even copying a page with a videoclip on it into a newly created book (it crashes). So I can't convert the clips, I can't delete the old ones and re-import them, and I can't even copy my content into a new book file.
So I feel my only recourse is to open the file back up in iBooks Author 1.1, delete all the videoclips, then re-open in 2.0 as hopefully then the crashing problem will be avoided. Otherwise, I'm stuck with a file I can open but can't update. And recreating an 800-page book that took eight months to put together sounds like a nightmare. Nor should anyone really have to recreate their entire book from scratch, just to upgrade to 2.0?

  • I deleted my ibooks author file but the preview is still available on my ipad, can I get the ibook back into ibooks author to continue to edit?

I deleted my ibooks author file but the preview is still available on my ipad, can I get the ibook back into ibooks author to continue to edit? I have not published anything, just previewed on my ipad but the file seems to be deleted from my imac which is what I was using ibooks author on. Any help is welcome!

It's not a 'process' at all.
If it was easy/straightforward, people would be turning store versions into iBA versions left/right and all **** would break loose. It's not and that's a good thing, sorry
Work up from whatever version you have.
Any work you value should be backed up....period. That backup should be used and tested regularly. Consider this a lesson learned, perhaps. Good luck in the future.

  • I just updated iBooks author and it won't recognize or open any of my .iba files.

I just updated iBooks author and it won't recognize or open any of my .iba files.

Have you tried basics from the manual?
    restart, reset, restore.

  • IBooks Author - How do I delete drafts I no longer want?

Trying different things in IBooks Author, I ended up with four versions of the same book (four files). Each has its own template, etc.  I have selected the version I want to keep.  How do I delete the three versions that I do not want?

You can delete those in the Finder.
See OS X Lion: About Auto Save and Versions for details on controlling 'versions' as well.

  • HT5544 I have tried to delete Purcased Books from IBooks on my IPad but they won't delete.  They have the cloud icon in the upper right hand corner of the book cover

I have tried to delete Purchased Books in iBooks on my IPad but they won't delete. The books show a cloud icon in the upper right corner. How can I delete them?

The cloud icon means that they are only in the cloud, they aren't currently stored on your iPad, so there isn't anything to delete. You can turn off the showing of the books that are in the cloud via Settings > iBooks > Show All Purchases 'off'

  • Options to delete book from iBook app. I have tried Edit and Delete but it won't delete

What are the possible options to delete a book from iBook? I've tried Edit>delete but it won't delete. I've tried to delete from iTunes but it is greyed out and won't let me delete it.

Create new folders with the same names and move the messages into them. Then delete the old, now empty, folders.

  • IBooks and Maps icons won't delete

I've upgraded out iMac (2011 hardware) to the latest OS. I see iBooks and Maps app icons on my doc bar but they won't delete. I do Options>Remove from Doc, then when I reboot they're back. Why is that? How do I get rid of them?
    Thanks

Deleting the app was a last resort. I have them installed now. But dragging them off, or using the commands to remove them from the Dock are NOT working. I've searched the forums and there are others with a similar problem. And FYI - I have a new MacBook that doesn't have this problem. So this is something to do with the process of upgrading a slight older maching to the new OS.
