HT5922 Why can't I airplay my HD movie? (HDCP)

I downloaded Hugo HD (iTunes 12 days of gifts) on my Macbook Pro and it won't let me airplay to my apple tv. I can airplay from itunes normally. The airplay symbol will stay up until I start playing Hugo and then it disappears. I've tried mirroring and dragging my itunes screen to my apple tv and it displays "This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)" error message. Why can't I play my HD movie on my apple tv? What's the deal?

Hi Davidmventura,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.

iTunes for Windows: Unable to view or play HD video content that requires HDCP

iTunes: Purchasing and viewing HD videos

Note: Depending on your computer's hardware limitations, you may be unable to purchase, rent, or view HD content from the iTunes Store. If you are trying to view HD video on an external display, the display must have a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI) and support HDCP.
Cheers,

Why can't I no longer watch movies from iTunes while they are downloading?

Videos and movies purchased from the iTunes Store are by demand of the content owners copy protected and cannot be edited, regardless of what the software is you attempt to use. There is nothing anyone here can do to help you with that. If you need to be able to edit videos, you'll need to purchase and import the DVD - such importing is despite the content owners' efforts still legal for class use (as with any copyright issue, confirm fair use issues with your district's legal office) though we can't discuss methods here - which you'll then be able to edit.

Welcome to the wonderful world of copy protection.
iPads have a form of digital copy protection that will prevent protected media, such as DRM-infused iTunes movies, from playing back on devices that aren't compliant with the new priority protection measures.
The Intel-developed technology is called High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) and aims to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across a variety of display connectors, even if not in violation of fair use laws.
The advantage of purchasing your movie as a DVD is that you can watch it on ANY device.
For a better picture, and fewer hassles convert to analog. There are HDMI to Component video adapters available that will solve your problem.

Why can I not rent a transformers movie

Probably because the copyright owners won't allow rentals in your country.

  • HT5409 why can't I play an MPEG4 movie on my mac

Why can't I play a movie shared from my MacBookPro as an MPEG4 on my MacBook Air or my main Mac computer?

Have you tried VLC ? This problem can be easily solved with VLC player. If it does not work, you may need to convert MPEG-4 video to H.264 MP4 for playback on your Mac. Good luck.

  • HT201272 In Itunes on my Ipad and looking in the purchased area, why can't I see all the movies I have purchased, only some??

In itunes on my Ipad3 and looking in the purchased area, why can't I see all of the movies I have purchased. Only a few appear????

Not all film studios have so far agreed to make their films available for re-download, so their films won't show - also if a film is no longer available in the store then it won't appear

  • Why can't I import my ppt.mov file into iMovie?

I created a ppt movie, added music and now have a file that I want to import into iMovie. When I hit the browse button, my ppt.mov file shows up but it's light and I can't select it.

You can export from powerpoint as a MOV file. You must take care that Powerpoint does not add any extra tracks like a manual advance track. This would cause iMovie to not be able to edit it. There are several parameters you can change in the "Options" when exporting as a movie from PPT, but it is not obvious to me which of these might introduce the offending track.
The most straightforward way (or most likely to succeed) is to export from Powerpoint as photos. You can select it to Save as Photos as a series of JPEG images. These jpegs can then be imported into iPhoto for easy import into iMovie. You can add the music in iMovie as well.
I guess the question is, what are you adding in iMOvie? That might help us give better advice.
Also, if you use the iWork App "KeyNote", it gives you the option of exporting to QuickTime without a manual advance track.) Keynote can import PPT. If you do a lot of this, Keynote might be worth the money. Else, just import the photos.

  • Why can't i down load a movie from I-tunes using the 3 g wireless network? I have no wi-fi at home power is out.

I need help with downloading movies without having a wi fi connection, during this recent snow storm in CT we have lost power to our house, so no WI FI. I would like to use the 3 G network but it doesn't work to down load I-tune rented movies? I don't understand this. This is why I bought the IPAD to watch movies away from home, or in the home if the pwr goes out.

There is a 20 meg download limit per file over 3G - if the film is larger than that (and unless it's a very short film it most likely will be) then you will need access to a wifi network.

  • Why can't I airplay my ipad to my iMac?

I just don't understand why I can't do this?  I am loosing faith... it seems logical that this would be seemless... Any ideas?

How old is your iMac? Apple clearly states in Mountain Lion's specifications:
    AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
Airplay doesn't promise mirroring between your iPad to an iMac, that is something I think you misread or were misinformed about. However you may get lucky and watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzbZWmVh52I . This is unsupported and you're pretty much on your own.

  • Why can't I airplay mirror my Mac Book Pro (new) with my TV when I play a DVD on my Mac Book?

I can see the screen from my Mac Book Pro but the DVD movie only displays as a check board on my TV. If I choose to look at my Mac Book only it works fine. BR hp

I'm not certain but I think Airplay is a non-secure protocol.
So if someone wrote a program to intercept Airplay they could potentially make a copy of that encrypted DVD you are trying to Airplay, albeit with compression and other compromises.

  • Why can't I airplay to multiple appletv

I run a church and want to be able to send my ipad keynote presentation to multiple appletvs in different parts of the building.  There does not appear to be any way to send the signal to more than one appletv at a time.  Is this correct, and if so will the new appletv add this feature so that it becomes a more usable experience, I love the fact that I can transmit my itunes around the building to multiple airport express and play them through different audio units, but the video thing is frustrating!

That is correct, AirPlay is a one-to-one device pairing. You cannot send it to multiple AppleTVs. There has been no announcement of a new AppleTV model at this time.

  • Why can't i airplay to my Apple Tv 3 from youtube on my MacBook pro when i can from my iPhone?

Would be great to get a airplay button on youtube videos in Safari but nothing like this seems to exist?

Ok. i just discovered the new Google streaming service.
i can now stream youtube videos from my mac to a Philips receiver connected to my TV...
Thank you Apple for not giving this feature with Aplle TV...!
I'm now using my mac with a non-apple tv receiver.
