HT5934 iOS 7.1 keeps my location service on at all times now. ***!

My location service stays on even when I don't have any apps running in the background with this new iOS 7.1 update... Please fix this ASAP!

There has been no change.  What iTunes displays is determined by iTunes, not the iOS.

  • Is there a way to keep both menu bars opaque at all times?

Mavericks shows the menu bar in both monitors when you have two. That's great, but the menu bar in the passive desktop turns translucent, which is a bit annoying. Is there a way to keep both menu bars opaque at all times? Setting the menu bar opaque in the desktop settings affects only the active monitor.

    Hey Everyone,
    DISCOVERED THE ANSWER!!!!!
I recently got one of these fun little squares and I just figured out (what seems to be) a simple way to keep the clock face on. (Though, I certainly agree with the comments about the ultimate impracticality of doing so for a long time, as the the battery in this thing only has so much to give.)  I'm running the latest update on it.
This seemed too easy to believe when I did it! No need to keep it empty of music! No need to keep it in Fitness running! I think this works because the clock face, stop watch, and timer are all in the same segment of it's little nano operating system.
If you turn on the stopwatch then switch back to the clock face, it will stay fully illuminated as long as the stopwatch is running. I think the limit on the stopwatch is 24 hours, but my guess is your battery is going to be dead long before that. I'd recommend setting the brightness super low if you're going to do this.
Anyway, problem solved if you want to keep it lit for however long you like. (of course you have to sacrifice the stopwatch)
    Enjoy!!

  • HT4995 Location Services and Automatic Date & Time

What do you do when selecting 'Set Automatically" in the Settings>General>Date & Time is not accurate?  Also what should be done when Location Services, specifically the Maps app, through wi-fi at home are inaccurate?  Both are showing the time zone and location of the home I just moved away from.

    - For location, the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi router that are in Apple's database. It sounds like you took the router with yo and Apple has not yet updated their database. They update it via information obtained from iPhones. There is not way to tell Apple to update an individual router.
    - Do you have the right time zone select in Settings>General>Date&Time? That is not part of the Automatic setting.

  • HT4946 I want to restore my iPhone, but I'm wondering if the back up will keep my Location Services data, such as "Frequent Locations" history

    .

The HT4946 article you attached explains what will be restored.
Some data may be saved per the article.  There is a bullet there, for example, that says "Application settings, preferences and data ..."

  • Should I keep the headphones plugged in at all times

I have a classic 160GB iPod, which is really cool. I have since I brought it kept the headphones connected to avoid damage to the amplifier chip ..... do I need to be concerned. I have a Bose Sound dock and still keep the headphones connected when I dock ... again do I need to ?
Finally I have just brought a Digital radio adapter which uses the docking connector but it has a headphone output which also acts as an aerial for the digital radio. So the question is do I need to use both headphone sockets or should I take care to avoid damaging the output amplifiers by not having headphone output impedance .....
Any help appreciated from Apple engineering support to re-assure me

Huh!?? What are you talking about?

No, you can safely unplug them. Besides, in my opinion, leaving headphones plugged in all the time risks physical damage to the headphone jack in the iPod from bumps and what not. Also I have heard several cases of people accidentally breaking off the headphone plug inside the headphone jack.

  • How can I keep the dock in view at all times?

The dock hides and then re-appears every few minutes. I can chase it and bring it up, but i want it in sight at all times.

Open the Dock pane of System Preferences and check the settings. Alternatively, control-click the divider line and turn off hiding.

  • Ios 4.2.1 Location service of Maps not working offline

after upgrade to ios 4.2.1. i just checked location service of Maps with cellular data 'off'/3g off/wifi off iphone was unable to drop pin to current location using maps application .is their any configuration change with this ios 4.2.1 upgrade?

Turn off your wifi and your location service, but keep your cellular on, You will be able to find your coordinates on the map but not so accurate, You will miss even the rotate on the X axis, The only key player here is your LOCATION SERVICE under GENERAL, the location service works in 2D way, It locates your position according to X & Y axis, For sure this is with the help of the satellite, I have find my iPhone app and it does not interfere with the map app or any navigation app i have, All these app actually uses the LOCATION SERVICE if it's enabled. You can go ahead and turn off your cellular and your wifi but keep your location service on, you will find that on the map your phone will rotate when ever you rotate your phone in a 360 degrees circle, but you will miss the exact names and coordinates of your position, Cellular data gives you that, Names and addresses of where you are and location services gives or tells you where on earth you are.

  • Location services not working after iOS 6 update (WiFi only)

After updating my iPad (3 & WiFi only) to iOS 6 the location services no longer work. This stops some apps from working. It was fine before the update. Does anyone have a fix for this yet? I know others have been having the same problem.

Before IOS 4 iPad and iPhone used Google and Skyhook databases for position info. In April Apple switched to using it's own in house database for location services. In the past one could register the MAC address and position of a router or access point with Skyhook and within 2 to 3 weeks any device with location services could find itself. Now with Apple handling it's own position database and no way to register an access point or router it is hit or miss as to whether an iPad or iPhone can find itself using WIFI only. If you live in a rural area you are less likely to have location services work. Hopefully Apple will emulate Skyhook in future by allowing users to register their access points or router's location in their data base. Until then those of us in rural areas are out of luck. Cheers

  • IPhone 5: Can't turn on location services after ios 7 upgrade.

When I upgraded to the current ios, location services got turned off.  Now there is a password there, and I'd never had one before.  I've been trying unsuccessfully for 3 weeks with every number combination that I can think of  to get into my restrictions tab and turn on location services.
    Any Suggestions?.

Note: If you lose or forget a restriction passcode, you will need to perform a factory restore to remove it.

  • Possible fix for problems with Location Services!!!!

Alright, I had just bought a brand new iPod Touch 5th Generation and was having trouble with any app that used Location services (Siri, Weather, Maps, etc) and it was driving me absolutely crazy. Now, I live in a very VERY rural area in Pennsylvania (basically the middle of nowhere) and my new iTouch kept saying "cannot determine location" no matter what app I was using that utilized Location Services. After 4-5 days straight of searching various websites looking for help (including this one), I came up completely empty handed and had pretty much given up on getting it to work correctly. Somewhere along the line, I found out about Skyhook Wireless and the process for adding my wireless network to their database. I thought to myself "What the heck? It can't hurt to at least try..." even after reading on multiple websites that Apple no longer works with Skyhook. So I gave it a shot,..
I went to the following website: http://skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php
I entered my address into the first empty text field and then clicked the "MAP IT" button.
It deteremined where I was (pretty darn accurately if I say so myself) so I moved on and entered my Wireless Router's MAC Address in the corresponding field.
Then I entered my email address in the corresponding field, completed the CAPTCHA, and hit "SUBMIT".
I received an email a few moments later from Skyhook letting me know they had successfully received my submission and then I sat back for a few moments, crossing my fingers and hoping for the sake of my sanity that it had worked.
After about an hour or so, I tried to get my local weather using the Weather app that comes pre-installed on iOS. Still, it couldn't find my current location. the Maps app gave me the same result.
I sat here planning my next course of action and came up with...you guessed it....nothing!
I said screw it and went about my business for the day. A few days went by and I was visiting a very good friend of mine and I had my iTouch with me. Now my friend lives even further in the sticks than I do but for some unknown and shocking reason, my location services worked PERFECT at their house (every single app I tried that in one way or another used Location Services, it worked every time) so I asked my friend if it would be alright with them to go grab my wireless router and switch with them for a day or two, just as a last ditch effort for the sake of science and my own sanity. They said it wouldn't be a problem at all. So we traded wireless routers for a day or two.
Upon hooking their router up at my house and using the Weather & Maps apps, it still showed up that I was still at their house and showed the local weather for the town that was nearest to them. I was like "Hey, it's better than nothing!" so I left it go for a day or two.
Upon arriving at my friends house to grab my original router and give them back their original router, I checked my iTouch and, lo & behold, it showed my home as my current location and the correct local weather for the city/town closest to my home address, even though I was at their house. I felt so dumbfounded and almost cried because I had actually gotten it to work. I unhooked my original router, hooked my friend's back up, and it showed up that I was exactly where I was supposed to be - at my friend's house.
I brought my original router back to my house, hooked it up and Cha-CHING! It WORKED!!!!! It showed that I was at my house and showed the correct local weather.
And there you have it, How I was able to solve my location services woes.
I'm not saying it will help out everybody else's location service problems but it is worth a shot, it worked for me.
If this DOES help anyone else out, please reply so as to confirm that it wasn't just me that it works for.

Thank you @sberman for a fast replay, I read the article, but still it doesn't explain why it doesn't show at least that I'm in Europe, while my android phone, having set just wifi as location reference, shows my position at 1km accurately(I don't live in a city, that's why such a big radius) in Google Maps.I also saw the time zone, if I set it automatically, detection through wifi doesn't work, it just keeps refreshing.

  • I can't get paddy power app to open after enabling location services?

i have reinstalled twice. keeps telling me to enable location services. have done several times and restarted. also cleared cache. same problem with betfair app. ipad 3 and latest iOS.

Sounds like a Codesign issue.  From terminal, type:
    codesign -vvv /Applications/iTunes.app/
    You should see:
    /Applications/iTunes.app/:  valid on disk
    /Applications/iTunes.app/: satisfies its Designated Requirment
    But if you see:
/Applications/iTunes.app/:  a sealed resourse is missing or invalid
    [lists reources]
You can either delete the offending resouces (risky) or try redownloading and reinstalling the latest iTunes.dmg from Apple.   Try the reinstall first.

  • Location services indication won't shut off

    Hello,
My app uses location services in the background.
I'm turning the location services on for short time intervals, trying to keep the battery power.
I'm not using any significant location monitoring nor region monitoring.
Everything works as expected till the phone is shut off. After the phone shuts off and reboots, my app is automatically launched, but then a weird thing happens - my app tries to stop location updates but fails - and also the location service arrow indication is on all the time.
I've checked the device console logs, usually those message are shown:
Mar 25 11:56:53  locationd[46] <Notice>: Location icon should now be in state 'Inactive'
Mar 25 11:58:06 keran locationd[46] <Notice>: Location icon should now be in state 'Active'
indicating that the icon should be turned off, but after a device reboot these logs don't appear when calling stopUpdatingLocation.
I've checked thoroughly that the stopUpdatingLocation command is reached and called.
This behavior was reproduced with a iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1.2, as well as with another iPhone 4 device running a 6.1 version.
Please help, this is preventing me from releasing my app.
    Thanks,

Thanks! Based on that, I was able to figure out the culprit, it appears to be Around Me. However, now I'm confused. I've also got Facebook and a few other apps that are set to always as well, but they aren't tracking my location now. Why not? It looks like never is self-explanatory, while using is while you have the app running whether or not it's in the background, and always is always, but Around Me is the only app tracking my location right now, even though there are at least 3 other apps that also have the location tracking set to always.

It sounds like you have the shuffle feature turned on.

  • Imessage location service not accurate

i keep my location service on indefinitely but my phone is always charged. I forgot to charge it a few days ago and when it died the location showed I was somewhere completely different then where I was. Has this happened to anyone? What causes that?

  • The problem with ALAssetsLibrary and Location Services

I have developed a photo app for the iPhone, released a couple of days ago, that's doing rather good in the App Store, but would probably do a lot better if it weren't for the negative reviews saying that they can't understand why the app wants access to Location Services to be able to select photos from the photo gallery.
The app lets users select photos from their gallery, which they then can style and edit in different ways. To do this I use the ALAssetsLibrary class. So far so good. The problem with the ALAssetsLibrary class is that if I wish to use it to access photos on the device, the user must give the app access to Location Services, as well. Why, you ask? Well, because photos in the gallery might possibly include information on when and where the photo was taken. If the user doesn't give the app access to Location Services, the app won't be able to access the photos at all.
In my app I'm not interested in the location services data at all - I just want the user to be able to select photos. But as far as I know there is just no way to read photos without Location Services enabled. As a developer I can sort of buy this limitation - because I understand why it exists - but apparently my users can not. And as a user myself I have to agree with them. Why on earth do they/I have to allow the app to access Location services for me to be able to select photos? It doesn't make sense!
At the moment I'm getting a lot of negative reviews saying "I downloaded and deleted. The app wants access to Location Services when I try to select a photo. This seems fishy. Don't download it". I agree. It DOES seem fishy, but I couldn't care less about their location data, and although I try to inform the user about this in the app, a lot of people doesn't seem to care, or understand why this is the way it is.
So, what's the point of this rant? Well, to start with, wouldn't it be better if iOS asked something like "This app needs access to your photos" instead of "This app needs access to your location", when using the ALAssetsLibrary?
Also, instead of using the ALAssetsLibrary I could have used the UIImagePickerController - if only it had supported landscape orientation. Why, why, WHY doesn't it? My app is landscape only, and therefore I had to build my own image picker functionality, instead of using the default one. Portrait only is a very stupid limitation, if you ask me.
Finally, is there SOME way at all to access the photos on the device without requiring Location Services as well?
    Thank you for listening,
    Andreas Lindahl
    Rodskagg

Unfortunately, there is no way to directly access the photo library without prompting the user for Location Services permission. I just posted an article on my blog about this very issue (and referenced your post): http://blog.mikeswanson.com/post/18269837647/location-services. I hope that this situation can be improved in a future release of iOS.
