HT6030 Unstable Mail in Mavericks 10.9.1 and can't install upgrade

I just upgraded to Mavericks. I'm in 10.9.1. I am having issues with Mail. It sounds like the Mail Upgrade for Mavericks would fix them. I tried to download it but read that I don't meet the system requirements. Is it because I'm in 10.9.1? What can I do? Thanks for any help or simialr experiences.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
Envelope Index
ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Warning: The process may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. For reasonable-sized mailboxes, it should only take a few minutes.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • This copy of the Install OS X Mavericks application is damaged, and can't be used to install OS X.

I try to install Mavericks to my MacPro, I got this mesaage after I downloaded the OS. "This copy of the Install OS X Mavericks application is damaged, and can't be used to install OS X". I dowlaod 5 times already but still doesn't work. Anyboby know how to make it works?

This could be a problem with your router. I had replaced one if my Linksys routers with dd-wrt firmware. Overall my router ran a whole lot better but then I started noticing very large files would download only up to a certain point then they would be corrupted. The issue was only discovered by me when I was downloading iOS images.
After extensive network troubleshooting I discovered the problem appeared to be my router that was dropping the packets and causing corruption. So I replaced my firmware back to stock and my downloads worked fine.
I am not suggesting you replaced your router firmware and this is your problem but I do think it is worth a try to see what happens with a different router.

  • HT6030 Mail on Maverick is working on and off - one day problems with Smtp than this works and Imap is not working  and then all works for a day and then nothing works - advice?

Mail on Maverick is very problematic since latest upgrade. One day it works other day it doesn't, especially with gmail. I don't change any settings but one day it will work and the other it will not. What give? All updates are installed....

  • Unstable Mail post Mavericks upgrade:

After upgrade to Mavericks (v10.9.1) Mail (v7.1) on my iMac has become unstable, freezing at the drop of a hat, requiring frequent forced quit to wrestle back control. Tried to instal the available Mail Update for Mavericks, promising increased stability, in an attempt to solve the problem but the installer says all my storage options, including the SSD Macintosh HD 'do not meet the requirements for this update'.
Is this a known problem between Mail and Mavericks and does anyone have an idea how to fix?
    thanks

Has anybody figured this out? I too really really regret "upgrading" to Mavericks.  My most used programs are all fubar'd: Mail, Numbers, Pages
At least it seems you can access your email.  Mine often freezes causes a force quit (even that doesn't always work) and then when I click on the mail icon, no window appears, only the tiny little (tool?) bar at the top.  I am still looking for my boxes, especially inbox and compose box.  Aarrgh!

  • Mail in Mavericks is Extremely Slow and a Resource Hog

Since upgrading to Mavericks it is taking a very long time to fetch mail, and during this wait my computer is pretty much non-responsive.  (For example, fetching 56 emails using my webmail client took 4 seconds, while fetching the same 56 emails using Apple Mail took almost 3 minutes.)
One thing I noticed in the Mail Activity window is that "Changing Flags" is happening for a very long time during the wait. Don't know how to do anything about that.
Also, while fetching emails, Apple Mail is using over 100% of the CPU as reported in Activity Monitor.
I have the oldest Mavericks-compatible iMac [~VIN,IMAC (24-INCH MID 2007)] and I have a POP email account with over 100,000 messages on the server. And I do not want to delete the archived emails.
All was fine prior to Mavericks, but the problems started as soon as I upgraded.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Hi Han71, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Start with these three, check SpamCop or SpamHaus to see if your IP is there...

    http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso
    http://www.spamhaus.org/zen/
Sometimes an ISP will bloc a whole other ISP too, if it's the source of too much SPAM.

  • I downloaded the new maverick and now i can't open iPhoto and can't install the new version. Help?

Iphoto has a circle with line through it. its iPhoto 9.2.3. I go to the app store and try and download the new version and i get these windows. if someone can help that would be great. also i had problems installing maverick I'm backing up my hard drive and going to try and reinstall maverick but i dont know what else to do i have all my daughters baby photos on there. is there anyway i can transfer my library to a different app and open it that way???

The error message means, that a different AppleID has been used to buy iPhoto '11 or to accept it to the AppleID, when the Mac first has been set up.
If you are now using a different AppleID then the one you used, when you set up your Mac, launch the App Store and sing into the AppStore with  the old AppleID (in the "Store" menu).
If your Mac has been set up by someone else, ask this person to sign into the AppStore and update iPhoto for you. If you bought the Mac second hand  and cannot contact the previous owner, delete iPhoto from the Applications folder and buy it using your AppleID.
If none of this applies, and you bought the Mac as new, and never used a different AppleID, contact the store that sold you the Mac. They may have sold you a refurbished Mac, with the iLife apps still tied to a different AppleID.

  • Mail works even worse with Gmail and Google apps after upgrade

I had good hopes that Apple would solve the mail issues with the 10.9.2 update, but unfortunately it seems that now the synchronization between Gmail/Google apps is completely off.
After archiving a message in my mail application the message remains in my inbox in Google apps and Gmail.
When I was using 10.9.1 this was not the case, I only suffered delay in receiving mails and could not manually move a message from my inbox to the all messages box.
I have Outlook on my Mac, which came with Office, but never configured it.
Do I really need to start to use that programm?

Googles version of an IMAP system works poorly with most clients. If you are going to use it then choosing a client that works the way Google wants them too is a wise course.
Of that breed MailPlane is easily the best, AirMail is a solid second.

  • Why does Mail open in guest account but not my account since upgrade to Mavericks?

I've read a lot of threads but not found anything that works for me. The history is this:
I've upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.2. Since then, Mail won't open in my own user account. I only get a very brief error message:
    Process:
    Mail [1448]
    Path:
    /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail
    Identifier:
    com.apple.mail
    Version:
    7.2 (1874)
    Build Info:
    Mail-1874000000000000~1
    Code Type:
    X86-64 (Native)
    Parent Process:  launchd [157]
    Responsible:
    Mail [1448]
    User ID:
I have gone to user/Library/Mail and deleted the contents of the folder Mailboxes + all the other mailboxes. No change - Mail still won't open.
If I switch user accounts to guest user, Mail opens normally (sets up email accounts etc).
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Rebooted in safe mode, repaired disc permissions, rebooted (again in safe mode) but no difference.
There was a bit more detail I could / should have added.
    1) Before it crashes, Mail says it is Upgrading your Mail database.
    2) I downloaded Mail update but Installer said none of the drives were compatible. (Anyway Mail works fine in Guest Account)
    3) I've been through all the tips on this post https://discussions.apple.com/message/23490745#23490745http://
    and
looked at Internet accounts in Preferences and none of my email accounts is checked with Mail. It asks for a password for each one but when I provide it I get the message Unable to verify account name or password. And if I try and uncheck iCloud with Mail I get the message that I need to do that from within Mail. (Obviously not possible until I can open Mail).
In Terminal tried defaults delete com.apple.mail ColorQuoterColorList but got the message that it hadn't been done.
Tried to find Envelope.x.x files as per this fix:     Final solution: Go into ~Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes > Delete all mailboxes. Then go to ~Library/Mail/V2/Maildata and delete 3 or more "Envelope.x.x" files > Restart Mail, and enjoy your success.     but don't have a V2 folder nor Envelope.x.x files. I do have Envelope Index file and Envelope Index - journal
I don't suspect 3rd party applications because I think they are all available in the Guest Account aren't they?
Many thanks for your reply though. Any more ideas?
