HT6065 Cannot connect to home wifi automatically despite upgrading to OS X Mavericks v10.9.1 Update

My MacBook Pro is unable to connect to my home wifi although there were no problems in the past.  I realized that the problem was intermittent and then it became permanent.  Each time I have to manually connect to my home wifi.  This is despite having upgraded to the latest OS version Maverick v 0.9.1.

See if anything here helps - no guarantees, but sometimes any one of the suggestions has been known to work:
WiFi Problems:
Wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always. In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion and possibly Mavericks:

Getting WiFi to automatically join the correct network:
System Preferences>Network>WiFi>Advanced Button
Delete all networks you don’t want to join
Tick the box ‘Remember networks this computer has joined’
Tick the box ‘Change networks’ under ‘Require administrator authorisation to…’
OK the changes
Tick the box ‘Ask to join new networks’
Apply the changes

  • After ios 5 update cannot connect to home wifi

it worked just before i installed ios 5 and now I cannot connect to my wifi. iphone still connects

    Same for me.
I have to reset my comcast modem to get the iphone to submit the password.
Otherwise i just get a message "unable to connect to HOMExxxx"
After I reset the modem then I get the password request.
Password should be retained in the iPhone.
Got the iPhone connected on Sunday night and then Monday morning had to go through the whole routine again.
Comcast password is many characters so this is problematic.

  • Cannot connect to home wifi?

why can't i connect to my home wifi, everyone else in the house can ?

Probably because the DHCP daemon in the router has quit. Try rebooting the router by turning it off for about 15 seconds.

  • HT4993 Cannot connect to home wifi

I have the iphone 4S and I'm really getting tired of not being able to connect to my home wifi. My husband has the Samsung Galaxy S3 and has no problems whatsoever. I bought this phone for that specific reason amongst others but this is getting ridiulous. I'm about to take it to the Apple store and tell them they can have it back. Anyone else going through this???

There are a few posters with that problem, Angie...this can be either an incompatibility with the router or a problem with the iPhone or iDevice.  Start with the Troubleshooting iOS WiFi article, see if that helps.  If you are having issues with the WiFi block on the iPhone being greyed out, see this article.
Are you having problems only with the home WiFi or all WiFi?
You might also try a reboot of the iPhone by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if that appears.

  • HT204409 Cannot connect to home wifi with iPhone 4s.

IMy iphone does not see my home wifi.  Nothing has changed, even after IOS 6.  My Ipad and iMAC see and connect just fine.  I reset everything on the modem and computers and again everything connects except the 4S.  I have verified and or reset all settings including no security.  It sees all the other netowrks in the area too.  Any suggestion.

If there is no problem with the iPhone seeing any other available wi-fi networks or connecting with any other wi-fi network your iPhone has access to, not sure how it can't be a problem with your wireless router or network regardless if the iPad and iMac have no problem.
No change after resetting network settings on the iPhone and/or after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.

  • Cannot connect to via wifi after some upgrade...

After updating some package recently, I cannot connect to wifi. Normally, I'd use netcfg (now v2.8.2) to connect thus:

Yeah, I was having the same issue with Lion until I tried this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1170
Basically, my drive's name was exactly 27 characters. I made it shorter and it seems to now work without issue under Lion. It is odd that it worked fine under SL, but this seems to fix the issue.

  • Why my use iPhone cannot connect to home wifi in China?

I have just visited China, city of nanjing. Was staying at friends house, home has a wifi router connected to China Telecom modem. No matter how i tried, i just could not connect to the internet.Anybody got solutions to it?Tried using a iphone 4 and 4s.

not sure its still of any use, but I found I have to reset the china telecom modem (not the router) so that when it starts, the devices are already there and accepted for internet connection. I have that problem and need to reset my modem every day when I get home

    Morning bblawn,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Occasionally while using your iOS device, you may notice unexpected Wi-Fi behavior

  • My iPad2(Wifi-16Gb) unable to connect to home wifi network after upgraded to iOS6. The said network is a remembered network and never face this connection issue before iOS6.

Forget and reconnect the netwrok doean't solve the problem.
Even Network Reset recommended in others iPad user in the forum can't help as well.
    Please advice. Thanks.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Iphone4 wont connect to home wifi connects to neighbors..others iphones ipads connect to this wifi cannot change it and cannot access apps store. Does nor request password just "cannot access"

Iphone 4 wont connect to home wifi but connects to neighbors open wifi.  Family members with iphones can connect to the wifi automatically and Mac compiuter in home connects to this wifi and this iphone did connect automaticcally until a few weeks ago.  Does not request password when try to connect to own wifi..just says "cant access.". Also cant access the Apple apps store to purchase apps but all other function operate normally. Apple store tech says nothing wrong with phone. It connected to their wifi and coud access apps store from their wifi.     This iphone belongs to son who is autistic.  I am mother trying to resolve this issue and very frustrated.  Have reset router but no change.

Based on the symptoms, your phone is fine, and the Router is the problem.   Try http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398.  Specifically the "forget this network" step.  I would also consider resetting the wifi network password.  Sometimes that will allow a connection.

  • I have 2 ipod touch 3rd gen. Cannot connect to my wifi.  One will connect with neighbor's unsecure network..neither connect with my secured network

I have 2 ipod touch 3rd generation.   Cannot connect to my wifi.   One will connect on and off to my neighbor's unsecure wifi but neither will connect to my secured wifi.   All my wireless computers connect plus my Ipad connects.    They did connect at one time but haven't used them for anything but audio books which connect through Itunes on my computer.   It shows my secured network name.   When I originally connected them it was another rather with other security but since then I have bought new equipment.   My Ipad and my printers just automatically connect.    I have put in the Ip information plus but still no luck.

    Try :
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • Iphone 5 will not connect to home wifi or Bluetooth after iOS 7.1.1 update! Using unnecessary data please help!

My iphone 5 will not connect to my home wifi or Bluetooth after I completed the iOS 7.1.1 update. Before the update I was able to connect to my home network with no issues. Now it rarely finds my home network (unless I'm right in front of the router and even still the signal is weak) and when it does find my home wifi network it frequently disconnects from it. I followed previous suggestions to turn off router or forget network settings and re-establish them but it continues to happen.
This also happening with my Bluetooth connection. My iphone 5 would automatically connect to my home phone Bluetooth prior to the iOS 7.1.1 update. But now my device no longer connects, which means my home phone no longer rings when my cell phone is ringing.
I probably would be less worries if I did not have to monitor my data usage with Verizon. However, I do have a limited amount of data to use and I recently reached the max and had to pay extra money due to my wifi being unable to connect. Can anyone please help me with fixing this?

If you have Applecare take it back to the shop and demand a replacement.  If not you're stuffed.  It's a bug that they've put in the software to get you to buy another iphone.  You can maybe warm it up with an hairdryer near the speaker and then turn it off and put it in the freezer for 10 mins then retstart it and wi-fi is there.  It could also be a problem with the chip, if you do the freezer thing it comes back.
Apple knows its a problem as there are millions of people out there that it is happening to, in my opinion get shut and get a Samsung!!!!    That's what i've done and love my new Samsung S3 Mini miles better than the iphone!!!!
Go on youtube atnd look how many millions of people this has happened to.
Someone needs to put this in the media so they will actually do something the robbing bleeders!!!!!
Also whatever you put on these discussions will get it wiped if Apple don't like what you put!!!!

  • HT4623 I cannot connect to my wifi after updating to iOS 6

I updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 6.  I cannot connect to my wifi after updating to iOS 6.  I updated while connected to iTunes.  I can no longer connect to the wifi that I had previously used at that location.  However, I can connect to all of the other wifi areas I had previously connected to ie. home, coffee shop, etc.
I have tried turning off cellular data..  Other than not being able to connect to my office wifi it appears that iOS 6 is working properly..
Thank you in advance for your assistance

I have the same problem too and I have not been able to "fix" it. It is very frustrating! My other electronics connected to my wifi:  pc, ipad, iphone 3G,and TV they all working fine. I went to the Apple store and they say this problem is ralated to my network provider, then when I went to AT&T they say it is Apples problem. Who do you believe?
