HT6104 Are there any helpful/tips email newsletters one could subscribe to for Mac OS X?

How would I subscribe to a 'tips' email for Mac OS X/Safari?   Or is there such a newsletter?

Not that I know of'; however, I learned a great deal by just reading some of the discussions in these forums. So, if you're interested in a certain OS version, simply go through that, learn by checking where the reported problem is and try out suggestions offered.

Are there any known conflicts between Mountain Lion (10.8.3) and Microsoft Outlook for Mac? After installing, I can't send or receive eMails. Using a Macbook Pro.

Is this a recent problem or has it been going on for some time.  If you just updated to ML, you might want to confirm that you've update to the latest MS Office / Outlook patches.

If the phone is turned off, doesn't have an internet connection, or has been restored preventing "Find my iPhone" from being able to work, there is no other way to track it.

  • Are there any other ext. soundcards better than SB Live! for recording?

    Hi everyone,
About a year or so ago, I purchased the Soundblaster Live! 24-bit external
    I record from
Guitar --> Amp--> SB Live! --> Adobe Audition
The tones I get are decent I guess, but I have found that my tone gets stripped down from what I am hearing from the amp. The sound out of the amp will sound crisp, but once I record into audition and playback, it sounds very choppy and dry.
My question is, is this the best or are there other ext. soundcards that can get me a better tone?
Also, when I record, I plug into line-in in the soundcard, and in adobe, I select the soundcard and record from there. Are there any configurations I should try to see if I can get a better tone? Thanks everyone for your help.

I am a noobie when it comes to cards sorry.
How does my SB Live! compare to the X-Fi Elite Pro? That seems to be external, yet it also has the PCI card in which you would have to install it into the computer right? How does that work?
And also how does my SB Live! compare to the Audigy 2 ZS?
    Thanks for the help.
I am looking at the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 PCI Surround Recording Card from Musiciansfriend, it was the best rated. and I was wondering can I install that on a Dell Inspiron 9100 Laptop or do I need the card that is specialized for a laptop?Message Edited by oldspice891 on 09-02-2006 02:38 AM
X-Fi Elite Pro is a PCI type soundcard w/ external I/O console so, you can't use it w/ a laptop. M-Audio Revolution cards, 5.1 and 7.1 are PCI type soundcards too (here are USB/FirewWire models listed). The only Creative SB Audigy 2 laptop models are Audigy 2 ZS Notebook (PCMCIA) and Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor (USB) and Audigy 2 NX (USB). You find technical information for those from Creative web. The Notebook model is the only from those that has ASIO support (other supports ASIO through WDM/KS wrappers (like USB-ASIO (~50US$) and Asio4All (freeware) drivers)
W/ laptop you can use only USB, FireWire and CardBus/PCMCIA audio devices.
There are not many CardBus/PCMCIA cards available, and the only low budget PCMCIA card is Audigy 2 ZS Notebook. E-MU has two excellent models 1616 and 1616M but the prices are much higher than Aydigy has. Other available CardBus/PCMCIA cards are ECHO Indigo (two models) and couple (expensive) Digigram models.
As FireWire (IEEE1394) interface, there are models starting from around 100US$ (Behringer), but I would rather recommend devices around 300-450US$ (there are many excellent models w/ and/or w/o mic pre-amps, etc.). FireWire type devices are better from USB devices because of lower CPU consumption and faster throughput. Also w/ 3rd party drivers you can connect/use several FireWire audio devices simultaenously.
An USB device is perhaps the cheapiest way to go. There are plenty of models available so you just need to place your requirements and find the one.

Are there any unanticipated problems in carrying out the procedure outlined in the 'Windows Migration Assistant' instructions?

One I have seen mentioned a couple of times is it will set up an identical user account on the Mac, which has led to some problems.
I don't know how to fix this since I haven't used Windows since 1995.

  • Are there any 3rd party tools which provide Microsoft Azure IaaS diagnostics?

Are there any 3rd party tools currently, which can be used for giving detailed diagnostics Information about the IaaS environment (like on VM's, Virtual Network etc.) in a detailed report format periodically? Please note that I am looking for any such tools
around IaaS environment diagnostics here, and not about Application diagnostics.

    Hi Bahree,
Microsoft does not suggest  a specific third-party product. However, we do use them, and see lots of other customers use them.
Paraleap: Monitoring tool - http://www.paraleap.com/AzureWatch , You may browse to these site and few others to learn more, and chat with their folks directly on how they support Windows Azure.
I see that Microsoft has published a self-help diagnostic package for running Windows-based virtual machines (VMs) in Azure IaaS and this this diagnostic package does not require opening a Support Request with
    Microsoft
This package helps to diagnose and resolve common issues on running Windows-based VMs in Azure IaaS
We may download the diagnostic package from Microsoft's Support Diagnostics Self-Help Portal:

  • Are there any free remote desktop programs

Are there any free remote desktop or remote assistance programs available for Panther? I only need a server for the Panther computer, as I would be helping that user, but he would not need to help me. I was wondering if anyone knew of any. I wanted to try LogMeIn, but it requires Tiger. I couldn't find anything at Wikipedia's comparison of remote desktop applications. Thanks

  • Are there any 3rd Party Cloud Application Readiness Assessment tools in the market today?

I have couple of interrelated questions here:
    1
Are there any 3rd party tools, which do Cloud Readiness  Assessments for on-premises Applications. I am looking for names of any such tools, if they exist, which thoroughly analyse on-premises applications, and generate detailed reports on whether the
application is ready for moving to the cloud (and why?), or if it needs some changes before moving (which changes?), or if the application needs major changes (which?) or cannot be move to cloud in its present form. The cloud here could be Azure (1st pref)
    or AWS (2nd pref).
    2
From the tools named in response to above questions, which are the ones which can be used for doing applications assessments for a large number of on-premises apps in most efficient way? Do such tools actually exist? Imagine scenario that an enterprise customer
comes to me and asks that they want to check the cloud readiness for 3000 applications in shortest possible time - What tool will you recommend for such massive assessments?
    Thanks, LH

  • Are there any magazines with articles and tips for Encore - English language

Are there any magazines with articles and tips for Encore - English language

The very best "chronicle" on Encore that I can come up with is Jeff Bellune's Focal Easy Guide to Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0, Focal Press. It was written for EncoreDVD 2.0, but everything in it applies to CS4. Now, as of CS4, Adobe Dynamic Link to PrPro has been greatly improved and strengthened, and that part will have to come from the Help files. The book is still the best resource for 99% of Encore, and I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. It is an invaluable reference, whether you have EnDVD 2.0, CS3 or CS4.
As for magazine articles, Encore is mentioned in some, but I do not recall any specific to the program. Same for books on DVD/BD authoring. I have several, that use Encore for some examples, and other authoring programs for others.
The closest thing that we have to the PrPRo-Wiki, mentioned in your thread in the PrPro forum, is the wonderful set of Encore FAQ's on this forum. Jeff Bellune and Neil Wilkes have done a great job of rebuilding those, and most were lost, when the forum underwent a major changeover about 1.5 years ago.
Next, just reading this forum will help one learn how to do much in Encore, and also how to solve any problems.
One other asset that needs to be pointed out is the link in this ARTICLE to Jim Taylor's DVD FAQ. His book, DVD Demystified, by McGraw Hill, will tell you everything that you would ever want to know about DVD/BD, and his FAQ site will cover most of the important info.
Great reading in each of those. That is not an all-inclusive list, but all that I can think of for now.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
