HT6114 Can't install OS X Mavericks

OS 10 Mavericks will not install because I get message "This disc is not formatted as OS Extended (Journaled). Use Disc Utility to enable journaling or reformat disc."
I used the Disc Utility and the main hard drive is already marked as OS Extended.
I have an iMac running OS 10.8.5.
Any Ideas?

OK, you say it the drive is OS Extended, but it also needs to be Journaled, as the error message states.

Need to know the Model Identifier or when it was manufactured.
It needs to have been released in Early 2008 or newer. Model Identifier 3,1 or greater.
Yours appears to be the original Mac Pro. It doesn't have the necessary hardware (64-bit EFI) to run Mountain Lion or Mavericks.

I tried installing mountain lion mavericks and yosemite on my mac pro early 2008 I upgraded the video card to see if that was the problems and still the same the problem is that after installing even during install the mouse moves super slow and the keyboard won't work at all so I can't entern

Or try a clean test system install on another drive
A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up

Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current. Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old. Might want ATI 5870 or 5770.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against MacBookAir2,1, which is the earliest MacBook Air model that can run Mountain Lion and Mavericks.

Can I install OS X Mavericks on the Macs that running OS X 10.5 and 10.6 respectively?

Greetings to the community.
I have two Macs: one is a desktop running on OS X 10.6 and a Macbook 13' running on OS X 10.5.
I have learned that Apple is no longer issuing security updates for 10.6 and wanted to upgrade to the Mavericks.
My question is: If I purchase the Mavericks disk, can I install it on both Macs or do I need to purchase two separate disks?
In other words: is the Mavericks upgrade disk a single or multiple license?

Can't install firmware - OSX Mavericks App Store Update...

App Store locked up so I had to force quit and now I can't install firmware updates.
Below is the install.log data -- can anyone assist?
I'm not sure if I have to clear out and delete a temporary download file
to get this to work again?

I can't install OS X Mavericks... :(

I tried to install OS X Mavericks but I get a message "OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer." when I click learn more, my MacBook Pro meets all of the requirements. Any Ideas why?

Right. You need Snow Leopard or Lion. You have Lion. Your computer is in the class of item 3 in the list. Check to be sure you have a compatible model.

1. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).
2. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
3. Re-download and reinstall Mavericks.

I need to install an OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 update on my new MacBook Pro. It took almost 24 hours and then, with just a couple of hours to go, it said "An error has occurred. Didn't get a response from the Apple Software Update Server when downloading OS X Update Combined (-1001)".
I've tried several times and it just won't finish the downloading process. Any ideas?

Thank you. There must be something wrong with the router. Even using an ethernet connection, through a Thunderbolt Adapter, it downloads for a few hours then comes up with the error message again.

Hi, I am wondering if there is a way around this, I lost my hard drive on my Mac Book Pro and have had a new one installed. I am running Maverick 10.9.2 but unable to reinstall CS4, I get this message ‘You can’t open the application “install adobe creative suite” because powerpc applications are no longer supported’ I had it working on my old hard drive while running Maverick but cant install it on my new one.

I agree with sberman that you should remove Adobe Reader if your do not need it. However, I also have Adobe Acrobat Standard XI, and I also occasionally experience exactly the same error that you are having with Reader. Unfortionatly, I have never been able to find a solution other than rebooting (which solves the issue).
Luckily, even though I work with dozens of PDFs daily, I only have this issue about once ever few months. Therefore I've not been willing to invest any time in finding a a real solution but can tell you that a reboot solves the issue for me with the full Acrobat product and therefore may solve it for you with Reader. And, the problem does not seem to happen frequently so a reboot now and then doesn't bother me.
I hope this works for you as well while we wait and hope that Adobe comes up with a patch in some future version.

Can't Install OS X Mavericks

I am using a Mid-2010 MacBook pro 15 inch. I currently have 229.2 GB of free space out of 319.21 GB. I am running OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. After the initial install when my computer restarts for the initial installation, after a couple of minutes my computer shows me an error. OS X can not be installed be a recovery system could not be created. Go to www.apple.com/support/no-recovery/. please restart computer. I have no clue what to do. if you do great. I have gone into recovery and reformated partition, verified disk, recovered disk....etc.

Same experience. I click on "Download" in the App Store and the button changes to "Downloading", but no download file ever shows up anywhere. It is supposed to be downloaded to /Applications, but no new files have been created there. The only sign that anything has happened is in Launchpad, where a Mavericks logo icon appears, with "Downloading" as the file name. It shows a progress bar with maybe 1% complete, and that never changes, even after 2 hours.
My guess is that the App Store download servers are completely slammed -- three routine updates in App Store are shown as "Waiting..." and never download either. But what I would like to know is whether my download request is queued, or if I will have to retry it every few hours.

I still need to run and use OS X Snow Leopard.
I like a lot of the features of OS X Mavericks and updated apps for OS X Mavericks and would like to install this OS onto my FW800 external hard drive directly.
Can this be done?

Also, if you have enough space on your internal drive, you can add a partition and add Mavericks to it.

Check to make sure the download hasn't paused. You should be able to do this in the dock. If it hasn't paused, try pausing it and then resume.

I could not report the crash as my lap top was out of order. So now it's working. Should I report the crash and to whom? Do you have any link for that?
