HT6114 Is it ok if I update my OS X 10.8.5 to OS Mavericks?

I'm planning to update my current version to OSX Mavericks is there gonna be a problem if I do?
is there gonna be a problem regarding sounds, displays, apps or anything?

There is always the possibility that some of your apps might not be compatible with Mavericks or that some unexpected problem might occur during the update process. Without knowing anything about the apps or third party add-ons you have installed on your system it is impossible to say anything more specific than that.
You should always have a backup of at least your most important files, if not everything on your startup drive. This is never less important than when upgrading the OS. The best & safest approach is to clone the drive to an external one using something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner & upgrading either the clone or the original but not both. Test your apps while started up from the upgraded OS & if all seems OK, you can begin using it for daily use.

Hi since updating my Mac Book Pro from Mountain Lion to Maverick the computer is running slow

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx.  What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

  • Can't update Acrobat Pro X to 10.1.10 in Mavericks.

Can't update Acrobat Pro X to 10.1.10 in Mavericks. Get "The update could not be applied because the Adobe Acrobat application contents were modified since the original installation.  Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat and check for updates again.  Error: 1301". I uninstalled 10.1.9 and reinstalled 10.0.0. When I try to update, I get the same error message, but now I'm stuck with 10.0.0 and can't update to anything higher!

  • I already have iMac 21.5-inch, will I able to update my OSX to new OS i.e. Mavericks

    Hello,
I already have iMac 21.5-inch desktop, will I able to update my OSX to new OS i.e. Mavericks when this will come.
Or do I have to buy the new device for that?
Also if Apple allows me to change my OS on current device (desktop), there will be any charge?
    Thanks

If your model can run Mountain Lion then it will run Mavericks. Assume that the Mavericks upgrade will not be free.

  • HT6114 mac os 10.9.2 update conflict with adobe camera raw ?

All of a sudden Adobe camera raw won't convert either raw Canon or Leica files.  Keep getting the error code to re-install CS6, but that does not solve it.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5955
Look for the update name and Google the update name together with support.apple.com/DL to get the one referring to your camera, and make sure the system requirements list 10.9 or later.   If they only say 10.6.8 or earlier, they will not necessarily work, since Apple got rid of Rosetta.
If you are stuck on 10.6.8 or earlier based RAW, it may pay to do one of the following:
    1. Install Parallels with 10.6.8 Server. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6841
    2. Install Windows with the supported RAW using a virtualization software. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2741
    3. Install your prior operating system onto a USB Flash drive, and boot off that.  Given 10.9's security issues prior to 10.9.2,
and your Mac's minimum operating system was 10.8.2, you may need to contact Apple Support to get the Mac App Store give you your system specific 10.8.2 download, so you can apply 10.8.5 combo and its security update if it was working on your Mac with 10.8:
    10.8.5 combo
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1737- security update for 10.8.5.
    4. Switch to a compatible camera with 10.9 or later.
Updating to 10.9, you should be prepared for the following:

  • HT6114 Does the 10.9.2 update fix the issue on 2011 macs where projectors with HDMI are not recognized via thunderbolt adapter?

So to be clear, this issue occurs on any input with the Denon Receiver.  Occurs from both HDMI out and MiniDisplay Port out.  Goes away when we reinstall the OS and update it to 10.9.2.  Comes back as soon as we update to 10.9.3.

Have you been able to use the Mac Mini directly attached to the plasma/LCD/projector with out going through the Denon AVR? Even with 10.9.3 installed?
I have a Pioneer AVR and I have the Mac attached via a HDMI to HDMI and all is working for me. Can your Denon do some upscaling? Some AVR, like my VSX-53 can change the scaling of the input video. Meaning if I still had my Apple TV 2 which outputs 720P only, can be upscaled in my AVR to 1080i or 1080P or even 24fps. Heck, I could even plug in an old style Red, White, Yellow cable and upscale it to 1080P and output it HDMI.
I am wondering if your Denon is able to do that and it might be set wrong. Check the owners manual for such settings. Even the plasma/LCD/project could be doing the upscaling too. So check that too.

After the latest OS X update (10.9.2) I cannot open Outlook (Office for MAC 2011).  Outlook flashes briefly but does not open.  How can I get Outlook to open?

    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • I just updated my 15" macbook pro from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and it's saying Photo booth needs to be updated to be used. Since it comes with the machine I'm assuming I need to buy Mountain Lion or something? Help??

Many apps I would like to download were out of reach because they needed the latest software download to work. I was extrememly excited to hear that the newest update was completely free and knew that it would help some of my problems. I was told that Mavericks could be installed straight from Snow Leopard, but I'm guessing a few updates have been missed on the way? How am I supposed to update my apps like Photo Booth when I am a student with low income and can't afford to buy things like Mountain Lion?
Is there anyway to update my apps without downsizing my software???

First, I see from the screenshot that you have applications on your desktop - how did they wind up there? Any app should be installed in the Applications folder since that is where Software Update expects them to be when it searches for updates. So you might want to move your apps there. Do that, restart, and run Software Update again. If that does not update your very old version of Photo Booth, then I have only one suggestion: use recovery (hold down Command + R keys while restarting or rebooting) to re-download and install Mavericks again over the top of what you have.

  • How to update OS X 10-6-8 to OS X Maverick

I have a MacBook Pro5,4 with Intel Core 2 Duo speed 2.53 GHz & 4 GB Memory.  Serial ATA is a NVidia MCP79 AHCI with available storage on Untitled 1 of 234.81 GB
I am currently running OS X 10.6.8 with an "Old" Safari but also a Firefox 35.0.1 web browser.
I tried to download & install Yosemite but it crashed & I had to reload my entire system back to the beginning (I did not have a backup - I know!! bad on my part!!)
Can I upgrade to the Maverick system with my machine & if so, how is the best way to do that?  I don't want to crash my system again.
I am set up in my home on a wireless network.  The provider says it is broadband with 3-6 mps download

    1. Unless you downloaded the Mavericks installer before Yosemite came out, no.
    2. Log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used(see #1), click on the Purchases tab, and download it.
