HT6114 Mavericks update slow download
I started to download the Mavericks update, and it's taken over 10 hours (and still downloading). Is that normal?
Try running the combo update.

Maverick update slowing down computer
Hey,
I installed the Maverick update on my mac book pro (2012) about a week ago and since then the computer has felt pretty slow. Just clicking around or opening apps seem to be much slower then it used to be and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with what to do next. I havent tried reinstalling it or anything but after reading around a bit it seems like posting my Etresoft report is the first step so here is mine.

Anyhelp would be awesome! Thanks everyone.
KienanI have any older 2010 i Mac and was having the same problem. Lots of spinning beach balls everytime I opened somethng and especially when I logged onto my machine. I found a solution from OSXDaily. Here's the link, www.osxdaily.com/2013/11/13/fix-finder-slow-high-cpu-use-mac-os-x/. In fact, I think this solution may have come from the Apple Support Community originally. At any rate, it worked great. No more slow opens or beach balls when I log on. I used this workaround with 10.9.1 and then had to again with 10.9.2, so any updates appear to return it to the original Mavericks bugginess. Hope this helps.

Why won't the mavericks update software download
it is not downloading the mavericks software update and says to check my internet connection but i have a strong connection
Does your iMac meet the minimum hardware requirements.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space -
My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd. Earlier I thought this behavior is due to spotlight indexing but it finished after 3 days. I deleted all caches from library. But no luck, still running extremely slow. I checked activity monitor for cpu usage, it shows above 90% is idle. The memory usage always shows PM - 4 GB, Memory Used 3.96 GB, VM - 4 GB, Swaped used 0 bytes, App Memory 1.82 GB, File Cache 1.44 GB, Wired Memory 480 MB.
Thanks in adavnce for help. Was it the combo updater that was installed or the OS X 10.9.3 update. There is a difference.
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update. -
I have two apple ID's, one with all my apps and one with only Mavericks. Will Mavericks update automatically if i'm not logged in to the apple ID I used to download it?
Some things are mixed up here, seemingly...
I seem to have two Apple ID's attached to my e-mail.
An Apple ID is a valid email address, apparently. How can those be "attached to your email"... what email?
Facetime will not verify my e-mail address because it is associated with the other account.
This doesn't make sense. You can register multiple, even non-Apple-ID, email addresses and their aliases with FaceTime.
So, maybe you can explain your problem better - what you want and the steps you've taken and what you have so far. If something doesn't work, please tell the exact error message, too. -

I need to update to the latest version of Snow Leapord-currently running v10.6. Because of where we live the slow download speed for such a large file has kept me from downloading the update. What can I do short of hooking up computer elsewhere?
Do you ever visit a friend or realtive with a Mac who has faster internet? Maybe the local library has Macs on a fast line. If so, get a USB thumb drive and put this link on it from your computer:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then put this link on the drive:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
When you are at some place that has a Mac with a decent download speed. insert the thumb drive in that Mac and click on the first link ("DL1399") and direct the download to your thumb drive. Now do the same this with the second link.
The installer files will now be on the thumb drive and, when you get home, drag them from the thumb drive to your desktop. Install the Combo update first. -

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
When looking up files it's fine, but when trying to save or open anything through ANY program, i.e. Adobe CS6 programs, Microsoft Word, but also Apple software, finder is really slow (15 sec. or more of the same spinning beach ball) after the OSX Mavericks update on my brand new iMac 27" WITH fusion drive... This ***** really bad because it totally disturbs the smooth workflow I bought the iMac for in the first place...
Any suggestions?
Already tried 'clearing the plist file' through terminal; didn't work... Rebooting (obviously), didn't work.
Will there be a fix soon?
It's costing me way to much time waiting for the finder to show it's content when working.
Any official word from Apple on this?I had a similar problem. Tried repairing disk permissions, tried cleaning up with onyx and applejack with no luck. Finally what did work was simply starting up in safe mode (hold shift key down after restart) and it sorted itself out
Hope this works for you -
Slow startup after Mavericks update in MacBook Pro (MD102HN/A)
After the Mavericks update, my MacBook seems to lag at startup, starts really slowly. Especially when the lock screen is about to appear and the Apple logo kind of slides upwards. Does anyone else face the same problem or is it just me? The slide always lags!
Remove all items in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
Same for /Library/StartupItems
Then restart your Mac to test.
And check to make sure there's enough free disk space.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space. Less can slow your Mac down.
If nothing above helped, the startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Make sure to back up all important data first before using OS X Recovery. -
Numbers didnt download with my new maverick update. To my understanding, its supposed to be free? Is this correct? Now its saying I have to spend 20 dollars to download it. What went wrong? How do I fix it?
ThanksIt is not free as part of upgrading to Mavericks. It is free if you owned a previous version only - the upgrade is free for people who already have iWork apps.
Or, if you bought a complete new Apple computer on or after Oct.1, 2013 it is free.
Otherwise, if you've never owned any iWork app at all, you have to buy it. -
Mavericks Mail slow - deletes and updates
I have two exchange accounts and a gmail account in mail. Until the Mavericks update, I had to force quit mail at least once per day. That hasn't happened yet. HOWEVER, If the focus is in the message in the preview pane and not on the message header in the message list, delete doesn't work at all. If I click on the header, it will eventually delete, but takes a few seconds.
Any others with this issue?Hello there, SeamusMcG.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some pointers for determining what may be causing the slowness:

Slow downloads and software updates despite fast internet connection
Hello,
I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 on a 1.25Ghz iMac G4. I have an 0x14E4, 0x4E Airport Extreme card, and can connect to Safari quite quickly.
My only trouble is with software updates and downloads - with software updates, the download speed gets ridiculously low and comes virtually to a standstill. When downloading from the internet, the download speed is slightly better but still very slow.
I have tested my connection on speedtest.net, and results say my download speed is of only 0.5 Mbps, whilst a more recent Macbook Pro connected to the same wifi network achieved 10.2 Mbps.
I had posted this in the G4 section and was told to post my issue here, another user having sugested that this might be coming from my ISP's DNS assignments.
Any idea what this might be coming from?
Thanks,
Kieran.Hi,
Thanks for your answer. I upgraded Safari and my download speed has improved - Speedtest gave it 1.43Mbps - but this is still far from the 10.2Mbps other computers on the network have.
Could this have anything to do with my Airport card? Would my connection be faster if it was using an ethernet cable rather than wireless?
Thanks,
Kieran
