Software update 10.9.2 installations last minute has taken now for 45 minutes.
Anybody having  same trouble?

I just had this happen to me too – hung on "Completing Installation" for over an hour on the 10.9.2 update. Got confidence from this thread to restart (and things also seem fine for me), but I've had bad experiences doing that with similar system updates, so it certainly makes me more wary of applying Mac OS updates than I should need to be. I definitely expect more of Apple.

    Good Morning,
I just did a software update on my phone (finally) last night and now my phone will not come on.  It keeps showing the charger pointing up to a blue circle with iTunes inside and will not go any further.  Can ANYONE help me please???

The phone is in restore mode and the picture is telling you what to do. Connect the phone, by cable, to iTunes in the computer you normally use for syncing, and retore the phone.

You likely have a 2G iPod and those can go higher than 4.2.1
    A 3G can go to 5.1.1
IA 4G, with cameras can go to iOS 6.1.6.
The 5G, also with cameras can go to iOS 8
    To update
The Settings>General>Software Update comes with iOS 5 and later.

Have you tried temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed ?

my photoshop elements12 will not update says error and contact adobe but not open now for help.  windows vista

I need the updates because I just purchased a Nikon D60 and my Photoshop does not read the .NEF files produced by the camera.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Do you really mean the Nikon D60 which shipped in 2008? Was it purchased secondhand?
The Nikon D60 was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw 4.4.
Photoshop CS4 ships with Camera Raw 5.0 so it can read D60 NEF files out of the box. No updates required.
If you do mean the D60 then something else must be going on. e.g. are you using Nikon software to transfer files from camera to computer?

  • Mail, Safari, Software Update fail to launch after last update.

After my last software update which included an update for Quicktime, iTunes and two other programs I ran Age Of Empires and left it running for a period of time.
The computer froze hard and I had to hold the power button in to restart it.
From that point I cannot get Safari, Mail, or Software Update to start. They launch, but about a second into the process they quit unexpectidly and will not re-open.
When I try to run Safari or Mail through the terminal it comes up with the following:
Last login: Sat Jul 14 13:51:39 on ttyp1
    /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit
    Welcome to Darwin!
    wilbur-purdues-imac-g5:~ wilbur$ /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari; exit
    Segmentation fault
    logout
    [Process completed]
I cannot figure this out and don't know what the steps are that I should go through to fix this one.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Miriam,
I read the selection in MacFixit and went through the steps that they suggested.
I even downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.dmg and when I went to re-install it the program Installer quit unexpectedly in the same manner that Safari, Mail, and Software Update did.
I also noted that when I tried to start either Safari or Mail using the terminal (I don't have much expertise in this area) they stated that there was a segmentation fault
Here is what was on the terminal screen:
Last login: Tue Jul 17 12:28:25 on ttyp1
    /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer; exit
    Welcome to Darwin!
    wilbur-purdues-imac-g5:~ wilbur$ /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer; exit
    Segmentation fault
    logout
    [Process completed]
It seems that I can install other programs using Installer, but I cannot do the upgrade. Maybe I have the wrong file.
Thanks for the support so far.

  • Software Update Issue-After Leopard Installation

I installed Leopard yesterday and ran the first software update; everything worked OK; the first software updated included three updates: Remote Desktop Client update; iDVD update and Garageband update.
Today I tried to run another update and had this issue: while the Software Update is displaying a message saying "New software is available for your computer" there is nothing listed below and the install button is disabled! Then I went to the Software Update Preference and saw a message there saying Last Attempt Failed; error occurred while checking
Does anyone have the same issue while trying a new software update after Leopard installation?
I do understand there is another new update issued yesterday by Apple regarding login key
Grateful for any insight re this problem

Hi. I had the same problem after doing an erase and install of Leopard yesterday. When I go into Terminal (actually iTerm) and type "softwareupdate -l" (to list all updates), I see:
    XML parser error:
    Encountered unexpected EOF
    Old-style plist parser error:
Malformed data byte group at line 1; invalid hex
This appears to be a problem with com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, the property list for Software Update, but I'm not sure. If I type "find ~/Library/ -name '*plist' -exec plutil {} \;" to check all the plists, however, the Software Update plist checks out as OK. Furthermore, deleting that property list and rebooting to force the OS to create a new plist does not fix the problem. Weird. Now, if I type "sudo softwareupdate -i -a" to install all updates (change "-a" to "-r" to only install recommended updates), it works fine. I still get that same error when I try to run Software Update normally afterwards, but if I go to the preferences, all of the updates are listed under Installed Updates. So, I can get the OS to update automatically, but only through the Terminal. This is very weird, and I hope someone can shed more light on this situation.

  • Software update stalling at "configuring installation"

    hey all,
i purchased my wonderful macbook last december and have had no problems with it until recently.
my internet connection at home is such that large software updates are ignored until i can get to an area with decent wifi capabilities. i am at such a place, but the software update (6 items including OS update - could be 7 with iTunes update) stalls out once the update starts to configure the insallation. i closed down all open applications and it has been sitting there for over an hour. what gives? i cannot force quit because the computer has iso'd itself into the update. the only way to get out of this current situation is to force a shutdown.
    any ideas?

i would really love to post a pic of paul dooley from strange brew when he is on the stand waffling over the question of explaining what a "timecode" is ...
nonetheless, i did reboot before trying the latest update but ... didn't backup. in the future, i will be a little more thoughtful with regards to updates, but i have not gotten around to thinking about backups yet. still relatively new to the concept of having my own computer.
anyways, checking on my macbook, it's still claiming to be "configuring installation" but the status bar has grown/moved/become larger so, there might be hope.
thanks for replying and i will get back when/if the update is a success/failure.

  • Software Update, 10.6.6 installation error!!

Hi all, hope someone can help.
I have a Mac Pro running 10.6.5. I upgraded to 10.6.5 recently and had problems with this. When using Software Update, it would download, log out and install only to get an error at the end saying it couldn't install, with no explanation of why. I did some investigation and it boiled down to Safari (one of the updates in the list to install along with 10.6.5) wasn't being replaced. I had to delete Safari from my applications folder before updating. I tried rebuilding permissions and even installed from the installers from the apple download page. but until I deleted Safari from my apps folder it would fail every time.
Since I assumed that it was a corrupt copy of safari and all other update went ok I assumed I had fixed the problem.
Now I'm trying to install the update of 10.6.6 via Software Update. and I'm getting the same problems. It downloads, reboots, installs then at the end says that it was not installed because of an error and promps me to restart.
I have downloaded the update and run it from the desktop and it goes through the install as follows:-
    Installing
    optimizing system
    Moving files
    installation failed.
It seems that it isn't able to replace existing files on my system with new ones therefore fails the install.
Has anyone got any ideas? I have repaired permissions with disk utility and tried repairing them while booting from the 10.6.3 system disc, still no joy
    Many thanks

Worse problem here. I get the installation error then the computer attempts to reboot and I get locked at the gray background apple screen. Tried safe boot power on +SHIFT a status bar comes up and goes 3/4 away across and locks. Running permissions repair from Mac OEM disk set was no help. Had to do a time machine restore. Seems my install error is catastrophic. On the upside time machine works very well.. A bit disappointed with my Windows-esque crash

  • Software-Update doesn't run Installations anymore

    Hi there,
after I installed Snow Leopard, a few days later a wanted to update to iTunes9 and the new securitiy update. The software updates finds all the updates and the are listed on the screen but when I press install and accept terms and conditions nothing happens anymore. The list with the update to install remains on screen. Even when I want to reinstall Snow Leopard from CD no installation will start. Anybody else with similar troubles? What to do???

A fix I recently saw, posted by V.K., pertains perhaps only to those using custom keyboards. On the other hand, it may be more general. If you are not using a custom keyboard, then the possible fix should not do any harm. Here it is.
Set your keyboard to the standard US layout if not already done. Then, delete this file: /users/username/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.HIToolbox. Next, log out and back in. Then try installing whatever you have been having problems with.

  • I have an iPad2 and have been experiencing problems since the last software update.  My iPad randomly freezes and has to be shut down and restarted to move between apps.  The screen also suddenly enlarges and can't be reduced in size without shutting down

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same issue of the screen freezing or suddenly enlarging.  I'm having to shut down and restart as much as five or six times a day.  This has been happening pretty regularly for the past week or more, but seems to be getting worse.  Could it be the last software update?

Close all apps in Multi-Task Window.
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

  • Issue with Software updates and Magic Mouse installs

Having the same problem with Magic Mouse install as the Airport Utility Update
My machine: Mac os x; 10.5.8
My Problem: Got Magic Mouse for Xmas. Prior to getting download for Magic Mouse I checked for any software updates. It called for Airport Utility 5.4.2 and MacBook EFI Firmware 1.4. I ran the software update for each, started the install and received the message:
*The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement.*
(When I hit OK; or what ever it asked me to do the window closed and then the Software Update window showed w/ the message:
An error occurred during installation) -Duh
This is a shared machine... I am not the administrator so I went over to the ‘administrator side’ and tried to install the update software.
It installed the EFI Firmware 1.4
It DID NOT install the Airport Utility upgrade. It gave the same message:
*The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement.*
I then tried to download the Magic Mouse Download. Went to apple.com for download:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/wirelessmousesoftw areupdate10forleopard.html
I got the download, then ran the install guide:
    Intro/readme/license/destination select / installation type/installation
got to about 87% installed... and got the message:
    Install Failed (yellow triangle):
The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
    What now?
I don’t understand how the source media can be damaged... it comes right off the apple site. Is there something on my end and if so WHAT?
    Any help/direction appreciated.
    Karen

I don't have a right arrow key issue but I do have a problem where the center wheel click option gets completely lost. I have hit set to use Expose all windows.
Well, I'll be going around just fine...the I notice I loose center wheel click. If I try and change center wheel click in System Center, then I'm really screwed. Then any thing I left click becomes selected and I have to drag it all of the place.. no way to release. I'll disconnect the usb receiver for the mouse.... a Logitech wireless laser mouse, MX 620.
I never had a problem until the Jan update, then the latest this week seems to have made it even worse.

  • Software updates stuck at "Configuration Installation"...NEED HELP?

I have a new Mac Book and I performed software updates when I first bought it and everything downloaded and installed seemlessly. Just recently when I tried downloading and installing OS 10.5.5, the comp got stuck when it was shutting down and trying to instill the updates. I just downloaded OS 10.5.6 and it has done the same thing. It said that updates have been downloaded, do you want to restart. I click continue, it begins to shut down and start the install of the updates and it stalls and doesn't do anything. I need help!!

Same problem here and we tried the Apple link suggested but it is still not working....
Purchased a new Aluminum Macbook for my son at Xmas and he has not been able to download anything. We have run permissions repair, cleared Library etc multiple time and still get error messages when attempting installation. Poor kid is very frustrated as am I. Any further help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Safari 3.1 from software update hangs with 2% installation complete

I tried to update safari via software update and each time the OS restarts to complete the install it hangs around the 2-3% installation complete. I also installed the security update and that seems to have completed properly (although now i'm not sure)
When i restart the mac by holding in the power button the OS boots up but safari won't start from the dock and the update is still listed in software update.
I would download it from the apple download but would like to resolve any problems that might be stopping software update working properly

Did something similar myself. Used timemachine to roll back safari to before the update and used that version to download the update from Apple.
I tried to get the download from a windows machine but I guess Apple were trying to be helpful and detected that I was using a windows machine and internet explorer so wouldn't show me the mac editions of the download. (would have liked a direct link to the other editions (mac/intel mac/PowerPC) on the download page because every search i entered brought me back to the same page

  • Software update unexpected error on installation

I was updating with the latest combo updater to 10.4.11 from 10.4.8, and iphoto 6.0.6 and backup 3.1.2 and I get a message that an error occurred and the software couldn't be installed. Quit software update and try from Finder. I did with same results. Used disk utility to repair permissions and no luck.
Even if I just try to install one of the three I get the same results. Have 2.1Gb available disc space.
    Any ideas?

    Hi.
You say you have 2.1 Gb free, but, what's the size of your hard drive? Less than 15% of free space on your hd is a recipe for disaster in OS X.
If there's less than 15% of free space, then you should transfer or delete files in order to free up space beyond the 15%, and also clear the Software Update cache by moving to the Desktop or trashing these two directories:
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
    /Users/youruserfolder/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
    and launching Software Update again.
    Good Luck.
