.htaccess problems in DW MX2004 OSX 2.8 vs. DW Studio 8 on XP

OKay guys, anyone have issues where they can not get the
server to accept the .htaccess file while using MX 2004 on a Mac?
On my old skool G3 at home, It looks like DW has checked-in
or put the .htaccess file but indeed it isn't there because- DUH!
the server behaviour hasn't changed after upload.
When I view on my PC running Studio 8 at work I can mod the
file and check-it-in no problem.
So I have to do it from XP which makes me cringe. Perhaps if
I jump to OSX3 or OSX4 this won't happen.
While doing this in MX2004 on OSX2.8, I have noticed that if
you try to save the file in texteditor or even in DW it doesn't let
you. Probably because of the *nix-based OSX just doesn't like the
damn file messing with its .DS_store or whatever....
SAVE is greyed out - and not an option.
any ideas? any extensions that can solve this issue? Perhaps
I need to buy Studio 8??
anyone else having this issue?

If yes- then use a browser and use the built in file editor

line feeds also.

Okay got an update. Since I am a happy Dreamhoster, we have
whats called the HTACCESS/WEBDAV area on the CP that you hinted at.
I thought it was mostly for setting password protected directories,
but I believe you can do the basic htaccess comands from the CP.
(haven't tried it yet, don't want to F up anything already working
fine)
So I am going to say that this is the answer for my
problem.... that AND using the XP to manage the htaccess file (damn
it) Doing this...until I upgrade either my OSX or simply buy a new
Mac.

  • Problem with Flash in OSX 10.8.4

    Hi
I have just purchased a new Mac Mini which uses OSX 10.8.4 I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Flash however it does not seem to be recognising certain video sources.
It picks up my webcam no problem but it will npt pick up software sources such as ManyCam, Photo Booth (in video mode) etc can anyone tell me what the problem is?

What make and model is the webcam? And what was the last OS X version it worked with?
I've learned over the years that the ONLY place Macs are not "plug & play" is cameras... webcams especially.
What works with one OS X build won't always work with the next.

  • Problems with Boot Camp, OSX Lion Server 10.7.3, and Windows 7

My new Mac Mini Server is running OSX Lion Server 10.7.3. I want to install Windows 7 as a dual boot. I start up Boot Camp and use an ISO image to create a USB boot disk. I don't seem to be able to use the DVD to install, so I use an ISO image on disk. I continue with the Boot Camp installation, with all three options on the main screen checked.  When I get to the part where I have to pick a partition on which to install, the only one I can select, and must format, is the partition labeled BOOTCAMP. But the Boot Camp support software Windows is installed there. I can continue with the Windows installation, and boot into Windows 7 with no problem. But since the Boot Camp drivers were wiped out, I cannot connect to the network, etc. I don't have a Boot Camp control panel either.I did this once before on my other Mac Mini Server I have, running the same OSX Lion Server 10.7.3, and it worked without a problem. I'm writing this message on that copy of Windows. But this new install just will not work, after two days of trying. I *must* get this working. I'm stumped.
CAN ANYONE HELP ??? TIA !!!!

First, this is re-post of your other thread.
Your driverrs were not and will not be "wiped out."
Run Boot Camp Assistant. Download the drivers
Your profile says Lion so that will let you store drivers on flash memory card.
They are never placed where Boot Camp created a partition.

  • Lots of problems in changeover from OSX to OS9

    Hi,
I have a G4 bought in 2001. It operates fine in OS9, but I recently got broadband, which isn’t compatible with OS9. Therefore I had to start using OSX and I have had nothing but problems since. Here is the list of problems:
    1. Internet Explorer regularly freezes or quits. I have tried to download both Safari and Firefox but my computer won’t open or install a ‘.dmg’ file. When I click on ‘get helper application’, a window opens to show my Internet Plug Ins folder, which is empty.
    2. If I shut down OSX, then start up again, the computer appears to boot up correctly. However, if I shut down from OSX and restart in OS9, I get the message ‘your computer did not shut down properly’.
    3. If I am in OS9 and select OSX as the start-up disk and click ‘Restart’, the computer shuts down instead of restarting. If I then push the start up button on the front of the tower, the computer begins to start up but then shuts down after about 30 secs.
    4. If I am in OSX and it freezes and I am forced to start it up with the button on the front of the tower, I do not get the message ‘your computer did not shut down properly. Disk First Aid will repair'.
    5. In OSX, Microsoft Word often freezes and I cannot exit the programme so I have to restart the computer forcibly.
    6. I cannot print from OSX, only from OS9.
    7. In OSX, in Outlook, if I attach a document from the Classic Environment to an e-mail, the recipient cannot open the attachment. I can move the document to the OSX desktop, but then I can’t print it without putting it back in the Classic Environment and going back to OS9 to print.
    8. In OSX, the CD drive won’t close when I press the ‘close’ button. It does however close in OS9.
I would welcome urgent advice on how to handle these problems.
    Many thanks, Suzie.
    G4   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Hi,
    I have a G4 bought in 2001. It operates fine in OS9,
but I recently got broadband, which isn’t compatible
    with OS9.
What kind of 'broadband'? Broadband should be compatible with OS 9. I know I used it when I had OS 9. What problems were you having.
Therefore I had to start using OSX
Which version of OS X? If you're using the version which shipped with your G4, that might be 10.0.x... which is Not Ready For Prime Time. In fact, 10.0.x is little more than a joke and is unusable. 10.1.x was at least usable, if slow; 10.2.x was a nice system. 10.3.x was much better, and 10.4.x better still.
I hope you have enough RAM. Running 10.1.x with less than 256 MB is not going to be enjoyable; ramp that up to at least 512 before trying 10.4.x.
    and I
have had nothing but problems since. Here is the
    list of problems:
    1. Internet Explorer regularly freezes or quits.
MSIE on OS X isn't very good. Get Firefox, or, if you have the right version of OS X, Safari.
    I
have tried to download both Safari and Firefox but my
computer won’t open or install a ‘.dmg’ file.
Save the file to disk, open it with DIsk Utility.
    When I
click on ‘get helper application’, a window opens to
show my Internet Plug Ins folder, which is empty.
I suspect that you're using 10.0.x and are finding out why that version is NRFPT.
    2. If I shut down OSX, then start up again, the
computer appears to boot up correctly. However, if I
shut down from OSX and restart in OS9, I get the
message ‘your computer did not shut down properly’.
I suspect you had Classic open, under 10.0.x, and didn't close it before shutting OS X down. This was not a good idea in 10.0.x.
    3. If I am in OS9 and select OSX as the start-up
disk and click ‘Restart’, the computer shuts down
instead of restarting. If I then push the start up
button on the front of the tower, the computer begins
to start up but then shuts down after about 30 secs.
I'm not sure what that is, but I suspect 10.0.x is misbehaving.
    4. If I am in OSX and it freezes and I am forced to
start it up with the button on the front of the
tower, I do not get the message ‘your computer did
not shut down properly. Disk First Aid will repair'.
You've got directory errors. Run Disk Utility or buy Disk Warrior and run that.
    5. In OSX, Microsoft Word often freezes and I cannot
exit the programme so I have to restart the computer
    forcibly.
Which version of Word? I suspect that you're using either 98 or 2001 under Classic. If that's the case, and you're running 10.0.x, it's not Word that's the problem, it's Classic, and the fix is to get a newer version of OS X.
    6. I cannot print from OSX, only from OS9.
Which printer are you trying to use? And do you have the Printer Center set up?
    7. In OSX, in Outlook, if I attach a document from
the Classic Environment to an e-mail, the recipient
cannot open the attachment. I can move the document
to the OSX desktop, but then I can’t print it without
putting it back in the Classic Environment and going
    back to OS9 to print.
This wasn't clear. You should be able to have a doc open from OS X or Classic, no problem. And if you can print in OS 9, you should be able to print in Classic.
    8. In OSX, the CD drive won’t close when I press the
‘close’ button. It does however close in OS9.
    It shouldn't do that.
I would welcome urgent advice on how to handle these
    problems.
    Many thanks, Suzie.

  • Hello Guys, I have a serious problem with Installation of OSX

    Hello ,
I am using LION OSX 10.7.3 . Day before Yesterday I lost all my contacts in the address book and iTunes window opens without my intervention. I called to the apple care and said the problem they simply said to reinstall the OS. I noted the detailed procedure and formated the Hard disk put my Snow Leopard 10.6 and booted . After selecting all the launguage setting and agreeing the terms and conditions, I got my hard disk in view with an yellow triangle and exclamatory mark in it . There was a message saying I can't install the OS in this Hard disk.
Please help me guys ..... Thanxs .

Because your attempting to install a earlier OS X version 10.6 and you have a newer OS X version 10.7
You need to remove your personal data off the machine first, then your open to fixing your computer.
You need to learn about Lion Recovery, it's a bootable partiton that's just like a OS X install disk.
Read through the User Tip's here, it has links to explain how to do things properly, including backing up your data off the machine, Lion Recovery etc.

  • Problem install Jdev on OSX Mountain Lion, please advice

    Hi all,
I have been trying to install JDeveloper Suite 121200 on my MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion for a couple of days but have not succeeded.
I have read every install guide I've been able to find, but still haven't been able to make it work.
Does anybody have any advice for me, I really need to install this to be able to do the assignments we get from school.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kristoffer

    Hi,
just installed the same yesterday with no problem. Make sure you download the Generic Installer (aka the JAR installer). Then install Java 7 to your MAC and ensure its the default Java version (type java -version on the terminal). Then call java -jar <jdeveloper install file name>.jar from the directory you copied the downloaded files to (by default this is called "Download"). Wait for the installer to pop up (may take a minute) and then install JDeveloper. The install directory then has a JDeveloper / JDev folder that contain the start icon to use for starting the IDE

  • Officejet J6480 and HP Scan problem after upgrade to OSX 10.9

    Hi everyone,
    Product: Officejet J6480
Problem: HP Scan won't open after updating to Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks
    Error Message:
HP Scan cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure HP Scan works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X.
Any thoughts on what I should do? From what I can tell, the HP Support information asks me to run an Apple Software Update. This takes me to the Apple Apps Store, and I'm not really sure where to go from here, since this seems to be the wrong direction.
Thanks for any and all help.

  • Problems with Automator since OSX 10.6.5 update

    Hi All,
I've had an automator job running for a few months that is essentially very simple.
It gets a specified URL -> displays that webpage -> pauses for 1 min -> quits
I keep it running on my Mac as a separate user logged in (so it doesn't disturb my main session) scheduled via iCal.
But since the OSX 10.6.5 it no longer works in this fashion. If I switch to that user after the time of running I find Safari has crashed and needs to be force quit and the automator script in a state of failure (as it can't quit it).
If I run the script from that user whilst logged in it works without fault. It is only when that user is left running whilst I am in another session that it fails. It's only started after I applied the 10.6.5 update, I've tried clearing the safari cache - but I just can't make it work now.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm. I have noticed a slight problem (see below), but not as severe as this.
My contacts have not disappeared from my iPhone.
And I have just successfully created a test contact on my desktop (which is subscribed to Address Book Server on my server) and watched it sync across to my iPhone. So it's not totally broken. And can delete the contact on the iPhone and watch it disappear on the desktop a few seconds later.
However, it doesn't work if the new contact is not in any groups. A test contact in no group doesn't sync across. Which is a bit odd.

  • PSE 8  Licensing problem on Mac with OSX 10.8.4

    Hi,
Trying to edit some Aperture pics with my PSE 8 on my Mac with OSX 10.8.4 the following messge appeared:
Then found I could not open PSE independently of Aperture (version 3.4.5) - and kept getting the same message each time.
Not sure of the current state of my PSE 8 but my Applications Folder shows me the following:
So far as I am aware my PSE * has been kept fully updated using the Mac's automatic updater.
I have had this PSE * since new, just after its first appearance and registered it with Adobe immediately.
It has worked fine but my latest experience may be the first time of use since updating to Mac OSX 10.8.4. Not sure.

    Barbara B,
Thanks for your response to my cry for help. I do not understand what is going on with this "Licensing has stopped working..." business but I have tried to implement the solutions you offered without any success. My attempts are detailed below:
Solution 1: Could not find FlexNet Publisher folder by the method shown.
    Solution 2:
Found and deleted the Flexnet Publisher folder.
Downloaded the Adobe Licensing Repair Tool ( = LicenseRecovery 111.dmg)
Run License Service Update (bearing in mind this is intended for MacOSX 10.7 and not 10.8 which is my system), as follows:
Double clicked  this 111.dmg to get Volume (folder) LicenseRecovery 11.6.1 and opened the folder to locate LicenseRecoveryLauncher.
Got to Terminal and opened it.
Typed sudo python with end space and dragged LicenseRecoveryLauncher app      in and hit Return.
(Was not sure at all what was meant by the" path to the APP file").
Text and Password: appeared. I tried to enter my password but the screen remained totally unresponsive.
I hit return and tried to enter my password again - but no characters appeared as before. Hit Return and text appeared seeming to indicate some error. (I have no idea what is going on - the use of Terminal is totally strange to me.)
Cleared all from terminal using Edit and tried all this a second time with the same result. A screen shot is attached.
Hence had to abandon Solution 2.
At this point I saw the further solutions and decided I was not competent to use these and so suspended my attempt to get my Photoshop Elements 8 running again while I consulted Adobe further for a more user friendly approach.
I do not know if there is any other approach you can offer to make my PSE8 come to life again which does not involve a more detailed knowledge of computer management than I possess but I should like to know, in simple terms just what has gone wrong with my PSE8 that stops me using it.
Could you please answer my questions below?
Is the "Licensing" thing a problem with Adobe or with Apple or with a third party?
If the License is something issued by Adobe on original purchase, cannot Adobe simply issue me with a new license?
Do I have to buy a later version of PSE in order to use it again - and if so what guarantees do I have that the same problem will not arise in a few years' time?
    Best regards,
    Reg Phillips

  • Problems importing Mails from OSX 10.3.9

    Hi there,
today I updated to Mac OSX 10.4 from 10.3
When starting Mail under 10.4 for the first time it imported the mails from the previous Mail-Version (10.3).
Unfortunately nearly all the mails that where in the Inbox of the old Mail Version are gone and the few Mails which were imported can not be displayed. And I only a text is displayed that says that I should connect this account to the internet. But this account is already connected!
Is the inbox from the older Version of Mail somwhere stored on the harddisk, so that I can try to import the inbox again? Or is the inbox overwritten with that of the new Version of Mail?
    Any hints?
    Best regards,
    Frank
    PowerMac G5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Frank.
The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Printer problem after upgrade to OSX Mavericks

Help!!  My Canon MX310 printer  no longer works after I upgraded to OSX Mavericks.  Does anyone else out there have the same problem or point me to a potential solution?  Thanks

First and probably the most important is go up to your Black Apple uuper left and do the Software Update. Double check that your plugged in to the USB port on your Mac. Restart the Mac and you should be good to go. Iwould also go to Canons web site and make sure there are any New Drivers for Mavericks.

  • Htaccess problem

I am trying to set up a password protected directory "locally" and then upload it to the remote server. I cannot seem to get the bugs worked out of the process locally. I have altered the httpd.config so as to allow the use of an htaccess file (AllowOveride AuthConfig). I have the .htaccess and .htpasswd files in the folder to be protected. I am getting the following error messages:
[Thu Sep 20 18:27:28 2007] [alert] [client 127.0.0.1] /Library/WebServer/Documents/NWTSTFldr/.htaccess: AuthType takes one argument, An HTTP authorization type (e.g., "Basic")
[Thu Sep 20 18:27:28 2007] [alert] [client 127.0.0.1]/Library/WebServer/Documents/potatoes/.htaccess: AuthName takes one argument, The authentication realm (e.g. "Members Only")
It appears that whatever I list as the first item in the htaccess file whether it be AuthType or AuthName I get an error message on that item in the log.
What is this all about? I have not yet gotten the password process to work (where the browser pops up an alert that asks for your name and password).
can anyone help me with this?
I did do a search of the forum and found the July "htaccess" episode. I tried the information I found in that "dialogue" but that situation seems to be much different from the one I am dealing with. My public www server has given me a set of instructions for working with their Apache server BUT i will not have access to their httpd.config file so I cannot go that route.
    best regards,
    vilppu

it is rather simple.... make sure there are unix line feeds in the ht files.
    solved the problem.
