HTC Hero - Unable to start wifi

Hi,
Has anyone else experienced this error whe tryiing to turn on the wifi on their HTC Hero?
It's happened twice now.  The first timae it started working again once I opened the application that I was last using (Email) and it started working again so I assumed it was a software issue.  However, it happened again a  couple of days ago and I can't do anything to make it work again, I've even done a factory reset to no avail.
Reading online there are several forums discussing the issue but no real solution, some say it is hardware and others suggest software.  I am now going to try the helpline, I'm sure tey wil get it sorted in no time!!! (Wishful thinking!)
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd push for a replacement handset, it sounds like a hardware problem to me.

Fennec Alpha is not compatible with ARMv5 or ARMv6 processors like the one in the HTC Hero, G1, Legend, Magic, Wildfire, Droid Eris, or Samsung Moment.
We have experimental nightly builds with support for these processors. You can download the ARMv5/v6 nightly build at: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android
Please note that current Fennec builds are too large for some older or less powerful phones, and the user interface is not yet adapted to run on 320x480-pixel screens.

Ok, throw away comment there might earn you some kudo's good for you.. However, nothing I said was untrue..
I'd just as happily recommend another Symbian phone as another Nokia phone (s60) if it had been proven stable.. The N97, for the moment, is a bit of the odd one out.. There are many singing its praises, but then there are many (see this thread) who are very unhappy.. Even networks are unhappy (O2 and Orange in the UK refusing to carry the phone says a lot!)
Symbian is being stretched.. its trying to give PC functionality in 100meg of rom.. it is a stretch.. and I think this is why we're having so many problems..
Feel free to give some positive reasons why the N97 is worth keeping hold of to balance the, what I hope are, honest reasons the phone isn't that great at the moment.. I can start you off..
Screen is a good res for the size.. beats most of the competition
    Compass is a good idea
32Gig + an SD card slot FTW
Charge over USB with a standard cable (YES, microUSB is standard.. it is a good thing)
touch screen and a keyboard without the bulk associated.. the phone is pretty compact
Supports Line-2 or ALS.. lots of phones have support disabled.. the 5800 unbranded, for example (it's only enabled on the orange branded one as far as I can tell)
Ovi store (asides from the wall papers and ring tones and occasional outages) is a breeze to use
Ovi Maps.. its more or less free and covers the world
    TV Out
These are good things.. but I'll spare you the horrendous list of the bad..

Had problems with my broadband going down at weekend, since it came back on unable to join wifi BT say it is because my wifi settings are missing on my iPad can anyone tell me where to find seething details IP address etc

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • HTC Hero (Android) and Archlinux...

    Hey all
If nothing special happens, tomorrow i will be proud owner of an HTC Hero, running under Android.
I was just asking myself if someone of you has an experience with mobile phone under Android and Archlinux.
Is it possible to connect the phone under Archlinux ?
Is it possible to make a synchro with apps under Linux ? (seems to be very difficult)
Is it possible to see the content of the phone under Arch ?
If yes what do i have to install to push files from Arch to the MicroSD card for example ?
So many questions at the same time
Just hopping not to be the only one qith such a phone under Arch

After connecting my G1 to my PC I get an alert on my phone asking me if I want to 'mount' the SD card to my PC. Confirming this disables the SD card for the android phone, freeing it up to be mounted by your PC.
I believe there are no apps yet that synchronise directly with what is stored locally on your PC but there are lots of programs that synchronise with your accounts for various web services. Therefore it's possible to have synchronisation going on indirectly via 'the cloud'. For instance, my phone is linked to my Google account so I have Thunderbird sync with Google Mail and Google Calendar directly. Another example would be using the Astrid application to sync your tasks with your Remember the Milk account, and then having something on your computer sync with this account (such as the Remember the Milk plasmoid for KDE 4.3) .
Modifying the onboard memory of your phone requires the Android SDK tools: http://developer.android.com/sdk/. One of the tools (adb) allows you to install software packages you have downloaded to your computer to a USB connected Android phone. This is particularly useful when you are trying to install something that isn't available on the Android Market for one reason or another (e.g. http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/).
Certain programs (such as android-wifi-tether) require root access to be usable. This is done through the installation of an unofficially modified phone firmware. However, such a firmware has yet to be released for the HTC Hero (only the HTC Dream, or G1). You would do well to follow the forums at xda-developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=508) if you are interested in waiting for this feature.
With root access it is even possible to have an unadulterated version of Debian running on your phone by following a very simple guide:
    http://www.androidfanatic.com/cms/commu … =9&id=2248.
I'm sure it would be possible to put Arch on the phone but that would be a more involved process than simply downloading the image in the guide linked above.
I tried using Firefox under IceWM but the phone is too underpowered to make using this practical. However, it works great with CLI apps and this alone makes this hack worth doing.
Anyway, I hope this at least somewhat answers your questions. I am sure someone with more experience of using Android will be able to provide you with better information than I.

  • HTC Hero as modem for laptop ( SOLVED)

    Hi,
I have been trying to use my HTC Hero phone data package for browsing the web from my laptop with no success.
The steps I have taken so far ( based on googling the query and reading the wiki )
    1. Installed USB RNDIS driver for SynCE from the AUR
    2. Brought the interface up ( the interface is named usb0 on my system, not rndis0 )
    3. ran the command dhcpcd usb0
And then it broadcasts for a lease and then times out.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

If connect phone to running os, than interfac usb0 is not visible.

  • Swap HTC Touch 2 for HTC Hero

Hi, we currently have the HTC Touch 2 on contract with BT (swapped from the HTC S620 in Jan) and we are finding it awful, it is slow, unresponsive and poor battery! Is there any way of having this swapped for a HTC Hero (with the obvious price plan increase).
If this is not an option could we request another HTC Touch 2 to see if the problem is with the individual unit?
    Thanks,

    Hi Maddock,
I'll see what I can get sorted out for you but I should be able to get one of those options you mention in place.
Could you drop me an email with your BT account details and a link back to this thread.  Just sent to [email protected]

  • Help. Windows 7: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002).

I just got a new computer. Windows 7. Toshiba. Intel 13-3110M Processor. 6GB DDR3 Memory. 1TB 5400rpm Hard Drive. Intel HD Graphics 4000. 2.40 GHz. 64-bit operating system.
I installed CS5 Creative Suite on it (which worked perfectly fine on my two previous computers--Windows 7 and Windows 8). Since then Photoshop and Illustrator have been giving me the same error message. "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002). Click OK to close the application." The programs still open and remain open after pressing okay, but the message comes back every minute or so.
Then, with InDesign, the program won't open at all. It gives me the error message of "Cannot load the PDF.RPLN plug-in. It is dependent on the EPS PAGE ITEM.RPLN plug-in, which failed to load. Please check documentation for the EPS PAGE ITEM.RPLN plug-in." Then InDesign stops responding and closes itself.
I have to live with this computer for two more weeks (and then I go home and can use my old one again/return this current laptop), and I have schoolwork that counts on me being able to use these programs. If anybody could help me, I would be super grateful!
Oh, and I've already tried installing and uninstalling it.

Without system information nobody can say anything. also check the logs in the Event Viewer.

  • Unable to start photoshop CC 2014. Error 0xC0000076. Help please?

I downloaded photoshop CC 2014 but when I start the application. A dialog saying, "This application was unable to start correctly. Error 0xC0000076." I am using Window 7. Anyone has the same problem? Anyone has a solution too?

After spending half a day on Adobe forum and Adobe's online support chat, no solution was found. Finally figured it on my own. I went to Microsoft site and downloaded the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 for x86 and x64. When the download is complete, click on the exe file. It will ask you whether you want to repair or uninstall. Click on repair.
After the repair, Photoshop CC 2014 starts normal. Hope this will work for you as well.

Noooo! Actually I too had d same prob wit my iPhone 4S. When I connect to my wifi network it won't get connected or it wil be grey scaled! I took it to d istore and since I had warranty they replaced my IPhone. It iPad charger has high volt than ur iPhone charger so when u connect wit it, there is a chance where large amount of current passes thru ur iPhone. So for sure it wil damage ur motherboard and its parts! Many said that iOS 6 or 6.0.1 or 6.1 was d reason for tis wifi prob! But apple never made its mistake wit it's software. If and only if u hav hardware prob u wil hav these sort of wifi prob Bluetooth prob! So best way s to replace ur iPhone!
