HTC One M8: Notification Light

I just got the HTC One M8 two days ago and I just realized that the LED notification light is not working when I receive messages, emails, etc.  It only works when charging.
HELP!

I found the solution on another forum (may have been mentioned here too) I had to do a factory reset on my phone and did not restore my applications/sign into Google. Sure enough, the notification light starting working. I am now downloading my apps again...unfortunately they do not restore after you complete the setup wizard then sign into Google so I am having to search and download each app one at a time.
Prior to the reset, I did disable Verizon Messages and cleared all the data/cache, confirmed the system messaging app was the default and confirmed the all notifications were checked under display and gestures but it still did not work.
I am also reading in other forums HTC is aware of this issue so hopefully it can be fixed without a reset.

  • HTC One M8 Led notification light

just got the new HTC One and the led does not flash when i get a notification like a text or email. all those options are checked in the settings under Display

Safe mode test completed using app "LED Tester" (as Light Flow couldn't be found in safe mode although App Manager indicates it is installed). LED did not work on any color chosen.
Just to make sure all of my attempts to solve are in this thread:
ensured all notification setting were set as per B33 link above and tested with Light Flow and LED Tester
never tested with charger plugged in
factory reset, clearing everything that was installed and avoided setting up Google creds so as to not install apps from my profile and tested with Light Flow and  LED Tester apps
safe mode and tested with LED Tester
To date (took delivery 2 days after VW made online purchase available to the public) the only time the LED has illuminated is when charging showing either orange or green (depending on charge state).
BTW, thank you AdaS_VZW for proactively reaching out to help. Very happy with that!

  • HTC One M8 - screen won't turn on, still vibrates

I've had my HTC One M8 for less than two weeks now. The last action I performed on it was to take a picture and upload it to Facebook. Shortly after, I went to turn my phone on and nothing happened. No screen appeared. The green indicator light is still on, and when I touch the screen or adjust the volume or receive notifications, the phone vibrates. The screen, however, remains completely black.
It was not low on battery, though I've tried charging it to no avail.
Any suggestions for restoring my screen? Thank you!

Sometimes things can lockup the screen/phone to where it appears to be black , but is actually extremely dimmed. Try the following to reboot your phone:
Press and hold the POWER and VOLUME UP buttons for at least 10 seconds. The HTC One should then restart. Many people don't hold the power+volume up combination nearly long enough. Look at the seconds of a watch or similar time keeping piece while doing it - what feels like 30 seconds holding it down to you may only be 10 seconds.

  • Why doesn't the Verizon Version of the HTC ONE (M9) have Wifi Calling?

I have been with sprint for 11 years and recently upgraded my HTC One (M7) to the HTC One (M9). went to jamaica and was able to keep in touch with everyone free of charge with wifi calling. Once i returned i decided to leave sprint and come to Verizon. I realized today they dont have wifi calling on this phone. Why is that. isn't it CDMA like sprint

They're planning on releasing it in mid-2015:
Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) plans to introduce Wi-Fi calling in the middle of next year but does not see an urgent need for it, according to Verizon Communications CFO Fran Shammo.
Speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference, Shammo noted that Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus support Wi-Fi calling. He said Verizon needs to do "some technological work in our network to make it available," and it should come around the middle of next year.
However, he said Wi-Fi calling was "never a top priority" for Verizon. "We built our voice platform so extensively [that] there was never a need for us to tell our customers, 'Oh, our network is not good enough so you need to go on Wi-Fi to complete your call.'"
He noted that when a call goes onto a Wi-Fi network, it's difficult for Verizon to guarantee the quality of service on that call, which is what Verizon has built its brand reputation on. That's a major reason Verizon waited so long to launch Voice over LTE service--it wanted to make sure it had adequate coverage that could replicate the voice experience of calls on its 3G CDMA network. Verizon has just started rolling out VoLTE service.
Other carriers are moving ahead with Wi-Fi calling plans. Ralph de la Vega, CEO of AT&T's Mobile & Business Solutions Group,  said last week that AT&T will launch Wi-Fi calling in 2015 but that the carrier will use it only as a complement to Voice over LTE or 3G-based calling. "We don't have this burning desire" to use it to enhance coverage, he said.
The comments were notable in light of T-Mobile US' (NYSE:TMUS) announcement this week that heavily emphasized Wi-Fi calling and using personal routers to create Wi-Fi coverage areas in subscribers' homes. T-Mobile is the first and only U.S. carrier to support Wi-Fi calling on the new iPhone. Sprint (NYSE: S) also launched a Wi-Fi calling service for its Android smartphones this past February.
In terms of other hot topics, Shammo said Verizon would not be leasing phones, as Sprint is doing with its "iPhone for life" offering with the new iPhones. Under that program, individual customers will pay $20 a month for a 16 GB iPhone 6, instead of $30 under normal financing. At the end of 24 months, they can trade in their iPhone for a new iPhone. The iPhone 6 Plus will cost $25 per month under this program instead of $35 under normal financing. If a customer wants an iPhone with more internal storage they will pay more per month. The leasing program applies to families as well.
Shammo said Verizon offers its Edge handset-financing and early-upgrade program but that the "majority" of Verizon customers are still choosing subsidized handsets paired with two-year contracts. In contrast, AT&T said sales through its similar Next program represented around 50 percent of all smartphone sales in the second quarter.
Shammo also touched on whether Verizon might sell its wireless-tower assets, saying the company remains open to it. In the past, doing a deal "always came down to price and terms and conditions," which he said have become more favorable. He said that Verizon's network is experiencing high demand and that the company would like to retain the flexibility to add towers or add network gear to existing towers. "It's an option for us," he said. "We continue to look at it, and we'll see what happens."
Last week at a separate investor conference, Verizon Communciations CEO Lowell McAdam also said the company would be open to selling some of its towers if the price was right. "Those deals are coming to us a little more now, and if an opportunity presented itself to increase shareholder value" Verizon would be interested in pursuing it, McAdam said, according to Reuters. McAdam said Verizon received interest in its towers two years ago, but the bids weren't high enough.

  • HTC One M8 Issues

    HTC
    One M8 (2014 Model)
    HTC One_M8
Android 4.4.2 - HTC Sense 6.0 (Stock ROM)
Carrier - EE, handset is locked to the network.
    Skype version 4.7.0.43514
I have found a number of issues when using Skype on the HTC One M8. If you are playing Music on the device and someone calls you, for about 2 seconds into the ring Skype will make the Music you are playing quiet whilst the Ring Tone takes the higher volume. After this 2 second period the Music will continue to play at the same volume as the Ring Tone is playing at until you either hang up or answer. If you hang up/don't answer the call and continue to play music, after around 2-5 minutes the top speaker on the HTC One will stop working. The only way to fix this is by signing out of Skype and closing the application, then signing back in. The top speaker will not work for ALL applications, so even if you stop playing Music from the applcation you were using and switch to another, the issue will still persist.
Another issue I am having, is trying to send files. Whenever I try to send a file from my device, when the reciptent accepts it my phone will still show "Waiting to accept", but it gets worse. I have only been able to send a file when clicking "Take Picture", otherwise if I try to select a local document or picture to send to a contact I get an error message saying "File must be saved on device" when it clearly is saved on the device, otherwise I would not be able to select it.
I have tried this on multiple HTC One M8 handsets, and have been able to reproduce on all.
Another minor issue, though I believe this to be releated to the background task killing in the M8 software, is that sometimes if I am logged into Skype on my phone (I have the notification enabled on constand) sometimes it will disconnect, and so all messages/calls will not be recieved until I manually open the application. Note that the status in the top left of my notification bar does not change, it shows me as logged in. But when I scroll the bar down and click on Skype to go to the application the application will flash and log me back in and then all my messages will come through at once.
I hope you are able to fix these issues ASAP.

My Skype acts very weird. When in use it would allow about 10 to 15 seconds working " normal " and then it restarts bidding anything that you've been doing until then, can't text, can't call. I've tried removing it, re installed it, rebooting, nothing works. I use my Skype for work, all my customers use Skype, HTC and Skype need to fix this

After updating to 4.4.2 the notification light does not change colors.  It only blinks one color.  How do I fix it?

Hello Saralynn43. Getting new updates is always fun, but then there are certain changes that can take some getting used to! This may be one of these cases where there may have been a change done to the notification system. What are the notifications that have been affected with the color change? Let us know as we'd like to look into this for you. Thank you.

  • HTC One M8 will not charge

I have tried different chargers and the phone will not charge.  When I put it on the charger, I get a red flashing light and after 5 mins the light is gone and I cannot turn on the phone.  Now the phone has no charge and I am not able to do a factory reset.

Never had this issue on my ONE M8  but you might try getting your phone to restart by booting into recovery mode..
see if that helps.. It may be also you have a Battery that has Deep Discharged and will need charging before the Orange light comes on and stays steady you should also hear the Phone Vibrate.. Put the phone on the charger set close to it if you can see if starts charging after 15 to 30 min. have past by it should and it may take up to Hour if is really deep Discharged anything past that and you have the Same Results 0 level I'd say something is failing in the Battery or phone that helps make it charge..

  • Flip (8220) LED notification light duration and control problems

As I've read on the boards with regards to other models, the red LED notification light stops working after exactly 15 minutes. T-mobile customer service was unable to find a way to extend this so that it keeps flashing until I check the message. And so, after consulting the boards, I downloaded the BBAlerts app from handango. But the desktop Manager doesn't pick it up as a suitable app for my device.
    Any suggestions?

This is a problem with all BB's!  The message lights always revert back to green after a certain amount of time.  It was one of my main complaints when I got the curve!  I know it's stupid...it makes no sense but you have to complain to BB.

  • Notification Light

Does anyone know how to turn the email notification light OFF? I saw it one time and cannot get back to it, nor find my manual. My personal email is linked to the phone, and it CONSTANTLY leaves the notification light blinking all day long as I get emails. If I do not keep checking and clearing this light, it will drain my battery juice before I am even off work at 5. I would LOVE to link my work email to my phone as well, BUT i do not want it to send me email notifications all night long too, when I am sleeping and the other side of the world is emailing me. Help? Droid RazR.

I will just check a few times a day. I get a hundred email a day for work, and like 20-30 a day personal. So i will always check but when this notification bar is up, and blinking light, it bogs down the battery seriously. I use a kill apps widget to kill all open/active apps so it it not that. There is a difference on my phone battery lasting longer on days i dont have as many emails and a constant blinking light. Thanks.

  • My HTC one m8 will not power on?

there is a little orange light that turns on when i plugged it in to the charger that blinks periodically then goes back to straight and turns off after about 5 minutes. I've tried everything to turn it back on (holding the volume up and volume down with power button several times) and nothing. And the battery was charging all night so it should be full now. HELP Thanks!

  • E6 manual/physical notification light fix

Not for the touchy, but I've found a way to fix the problem of the notification light on the E6.
It's as simple as taking a fine grit sandpaper pad and buff off the chrome paint coating on the d-pad (just the raised part, not the middle/select button)
I dont know if this voids the warranty, but hey at least you finally can to see the twinkly notification light we all missed form the E71/72.
    Enjoy!

That's pretty funny.. you buy a bussiness phone hoping for the best.
Then you need to fix nokia's design flaws with sandpaper, search on nokia betalabs for a store application that works, becaouse the bundle one is not working, wait for some firmware fixes for wifi and eventually you will end up with a good phone

  • What phone to purchase and HTC One

I have 2 questions. My wife is due for an upgrade and has been shopping phones. What is your suggested phone to purchase? Also, when will the HTC One be available through Verizon, has anyone heard? Thanks for your assistance!

    Rick,
I don't have any idea about the HTC One, but I wanted to maybe chat about your second question in regards to which phone for your wife.
I assume since you are posting in  the Android section and also asking about the HTC One, you are leaning towards a droid versus apple product for your wife as well.  But if not, then obviosly the first question for her is would she want a droid phone or an iPhone 4, 4s or 5...
Assuming droid, then IMO the next question is does she want one of the larger screen phones (Samsung Galaxy s3 or s4, or Moto Droid Raxr hd for example) or would prefer a smaller device.
If she wants a slightly smaller device, I personally HIGHLY recommend the Droid Razr M.  Got this very phone for my wife about a month ago and she loves it.  Basically the same phone as the larger droid Razr HD and HD Maxx, with the notable exceptions being it has 8GB memory vs 16gb (HD) or 32 (HD Maxx) and it does has a slightly smaller battery than hd (and dramatically smaller than hd maxx, but so does every phone ha ha).  As a side note, you can add a cheap micro sd card to all 3 razr's so somewhat makes the phone storage a lesser issue
Beyond that it is a great phone.  small, light weight BUT 4.3 inch beautiful screen.  She loves it.  It is not a super small phone, just a smaller phone (if that makes sense).  it is also free with 2 yr agreement
If she is interested in one of the others listed above, really there are (IMO) at this time 4 to think about:
Droid Razr HD ($50 at verizon now)
Droid Razr HD Maxx ($149 at verizon, same phone as above except hugh battery life, 32 gb vs 16gb)
Samsung Galaxy sIII ($99 at verizon I think, amazon has it for $25)
Samsung Galaxy s4 (4199 at verizon)
I personally looked and looked and looked at the 4 phones above.  like a lot.  as in my wife was ready to strangle me.  And I settled on the Droid razr HD.  I did not need the longer battery life of the Maxx and a $15 micro sd card bumped my storage up 16 gb, more than I will ever need most likely.  I liked the interface of the samsumg more, and it did more 'cool tricks', but the motorola's I read have great reception and I honestly liked the feel of the phone more.  A bit more metal, solid feel to it vs the pastic feel of the samsung.  I did read a lot of places the camera on the samsung sIII is slightly better than droids (honestly the razr HD camera is 'ok' but nothing to go crazy over) and the s4 camera is great.  but it is $150-$175 more than the alternatives.
    Hope this all helped.

  • TS1363 My HTC One no longer connects to Itunes whereas it did previously - any suggestions?

I have previously been able to sync HTC One with iTunes, but it now doesn't appear in the devices list.  Any ideas why this is so?

iTunes only syncs with iOS devices.
There is no support for syncing to any Android device.

  • Help needed with HTC One regarding mic problem with noise cancellation

I picked up an HTC One last week, and so far I am loving the phone.  Great build quality, screen, sound - all as advertised.
However, there is one very annoying problem I am having.  When I am talking to someone, I can gear them great, but they keep telling me I sound muffled or robotic.  I performed some tests, and the problem appears to be something with the dual microphones and the HTC One's noise cancellation features.
Here are the tests I ran:
Typical phone call, with holding the phone as I normally do on the sides and to my ear.  Call result, pretty muffled voice.  I'd give the call quality a 5/10.
Help the phone as I typically do, but covered the mic hole on the back of the phone.  This definatelyimproved call quality.  Was louder and clearer, but not perfect.  I'd rate it at 8/10.
Help the phone towards the bottom, using my hand to kind of cup the bottom directing the sound to the bottom mic.  This was a further improvement in sound quality.  Rating would be 9/10.
Help phone as normal, but covered the bottom mic hole.  Very low volume and muffled sound.  Rating a 4/10.
Talked directly into the bottom of the phone into the bottom mic.  This gave perfect call quality and volume.  Rating a 10/10!
Talked directly into the mic on the back of the phone. Horrible quality, couldn't hear hardly anything. Rating 0/10.
Speaker phone on, held the phone up and moved it around as I would normally use a speaker phone.  Call quality was really nice.  Id give it 9/10.
Speaker phone on, covered back mic hole and used speaker phone as in #7.  Very bad quality, rating 1/10 for call quality.
Speaker phone on, covered bottom mic and help speaker phone in hand.  Really good quality, even an improvement over test #7.  Would give the call quality a 9.5/10.
Speaker phone on, placed face down on table.  Volume a bit low, a little muffled.  Call quality 6/10.
Speaker phone on, place face up on table.  A bit worse than test #10, low volume and a bit muffled.  Call quality is 5/10.
Based on these tests, I know this problem has nothing to do with the network CDMA connection.  It is obvious that the noise cancellation features are a bit too aggressive, or I have some hardware problem with one or both mics.
I question wether its really a hardware mic problem, because on non-speaker phone calls, talking directly into the bottom mic gives great quality.  And on Speaker phone, covering the bottom mic makes the speaker phone sound really good.  That's why I think there's something going on with the "Sense Sound" noise cancellation.
Is anyone else seeing the same issues?  I want to be able to hold the phone normal on a non speaker phone call and get good quality.
Looking for any tips and advice anyone can give.  Is it worth exchanging for a new one, as I am still in my 14 day window.
Thanks in advance for the help!
