HTC Resound - Wildly Inaccurate GPS

HTC Resound - Wildly Inaccurate GPS - I use my phone to record my cycling via MyTracks.  I have also used other Apps too but I get these wild swings in my route with all of them.  While going down a road, my route is mapped going straight, then shoots like 150 years due left then maybe 150 yards behind me then maybe 150 yards to the right then back on track all of which generates speeds like 150 mph and wildly inaccurate distances.  I get great GPS signals for over 9 SAT, (Per GPS TEST) yet my new HTC RESOUND can't record routes correctly.  It goes along fine then - BAM - all over the map.
My old HTC ERIS was so much better recoding the same routes!  Maybe it would be off by 15-25 feet - MAX!
I have all 3 Location Services turned on by default (VZW, standalone GPS, Google Service) I have to try and use standalone GPS next time to see if that helps.   ...but,  MAN - WTH?  There are no explanations, help files or tutorials.

When Riding your bike in your area are you going down normal streets or riding the bike Paths one reason i ask this when the Google Teams are out Mapping streets that's what is downloaded an goes in to the Servers for the G.P.S Routs an bike paths wouldn't be included so that could be the reason it's off or acting Wildly. Now it could be also they may have not mapped your Area as well but if your seeing good results in your Car than there shouldn't be any problems. But i would go to your Local Bike shop an ask them that doesn't hurt to ask.
One thing i wanted to point out on my Droids my X an my Razr Maxx when traveling on our local Hi way K61 it being Built into a 4 Lane Hi Way an even though most of the project is done the G.P.S on my phones are still following the Old K61 so until it's fully done i guess it will still show this.

  • Battery Indicator Wildly Inaccurate

Why is the battery indicator for the iPhone wildly inaccurate? I have an iPhone 5. In iOS 7, iOS 8, and iOS 8.1, the battery indicator regularly gives odd information. For example, my phone was just showing 19% charge. I plugged it in, and the value jumped to 57%. I can't comprehend how the battery state changes that drastically instantaneously.
On a related note, are there any third part apps that give a better idea of the true battery state?

  • Inaccurate GPS location

I find that the location of my address shown on the iPhone map is very inaccurate, being about 200 m off. I am concerned that this may be a general inaccuracy also affecting all other addresses. In a city, on a golf course, etc., 200 m can be a big deal.
Any others out there having the same problem
Is there any way to calibrate the accuracy?
    Any advise?
    Thanks.

This could be a stupid question, but are you are using the phone indoors? It will be inaccurate unless the GPS can get a "clear" fix from a satellite - and that is outdoors.
Takes more than "a" satellite; need at least four.
My iPhone and iPad both show my location accurately when I'm indoors, in some locations. The uncertainty circle should show how much error there is.
Another issue (especially indoors) is that it is "augmented" GPS, and uses cell tower and registered wi-fi location data to locate you. If it is connected to your wi-fi and thinks it's in another location, that will bias your location error.
Best way to test GPS performance is outdoors and without any wi-fi connection. Then it should locate you very accurately.

  • Getting inaccurate GPS location on iPhone6, iOS 8.1.1

Is anyone encountering problems with GPS with iPhone 6, ios 8.1.1? I compared it with my ipad air (ios7) and ip5 (ios7) both air and ip5 are accurate, ip6 is off in terms of location. I can't remember but I think before (8.0.2) updating to 8.1.1 everything was okay in terms of location.
Everytime i change wifi connection it restores to accurate point, but after a while it becomes inaccurate again, i tried turning off wifi and use cellular data it just gets the last point.
    image here

Same here. I noticed 2 things.
    1) First I noticed that the GPS was constantly on (GPS arrow icon showing). This was not the case before my update to IOS 8.1.1. And I hadn't installed new apps after (or right before) the upgrade.
    2) Second I noticed that the location isn't established as quickly as before. And when on the move, it doesn't follow as smoothly as before. So it basically takes time to re-establish locatino all the time.
For the first point, I went through my list of apps that use Location services. And one-by-ony I've switched off all of the apps that were set to 'always'.
For me it was the app TripAdvisor that was causing the GPS to be active all the time. After setting this app from 'Always' to 'when in use' my problem was fixed.
But now I'm still stuck with the issue of slow / inaccurate location!

  • Software Metering Report Wildly Inaccurate

I've recently begun using the Software Metering feature in SCCM 2012, and when I pulled a certain report for my supervisor some of the information was incredibly inaccurate. Specifically, the "Total Usage of all Metered Software" report tells me
that in the month of September we had 20,000+ users open Internet Explorer. However, if you click the software entry for Internet Explorer it reroutes you to the "Usage Trend Analysis" report that displays a much smaller number for that specific
month - more like 600 users. Other software items have presumably correct entries that are identical in both the Total Usage and Usage Trend reports, but a handful of programs like IE, Chrome, and some Office products are showing up in the Total Usage with
tens of thousands of users counted while another much more reasonable number is reported in the Usage Trend data.
I've checked the Software Metering rules, and they're pretty bare bones - executable file name, neutral language or sometimes just English selected, and an asterisk for version numbers.  Nothing special, as far as I can tell.   Any thoughts
on how this might be happening?

Well this is interesting - I think the Total Usage for All Metered Software report must be completely screwed up on our system.  I can't tell what the query is searching for, but none of the data appears to be accurate except Terminal Services use.
For any software entry, if I click it and compare the "Users" column data from Total Usage for All Metered Software to Total Usage Trend Analysis, it's always off.  The query looks pretty straightforward, insofar as I understand things:

  • BT Broadband Usage Monitor Wildly Inaccurate

I have BT Option 1 and a 10GB BB limit which should be OK for our limited surfing/e-mail usage.
17 days into this months cycle, the Usage Monitor shows 58.9GB and has risen by 14.47GB in the last 5 days. During the same period, the usage monitor on my Home Hub shows a usage of just 641MB.
I'm pretty certain that I don't have a virus, external parasite or unintentional internal leak (I'm confident that the hub records all data in & out of my property anyway so would include this if I did)
I have a 10 digit alpha-numeric password known only to me and can identify all of the MAC addresses that are/have connected to my router during the period.
Has anyone experienced this problem AND managed to persuade BT that it isn't leakage/fraud at the user end?

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
I personally believe that there is something wrong with the online system with regard certain conditions or some form of failure or accounting system error.
Your figures clearly are wildly higher than your expected figures. Even if there is no increase in the amount used this month - you are looking at £50 for the extra usage.
I have mentioned it before, but not sure if anything has been done. A kind moderator should perhaps take on a couple of users reporting these high figures, and try to get to the bottom of it.
It does look like cross contamination of data usage somewhere.

  • Inaccurate GPS data when exporting from iPhoto

I'm trying to export geotagged photos from iPhoto, and I'm experience some odd behavior.
    1) When I tag the photos outside of iPhoto, the photos' geo information comes up correctly in Places, but when I try to export the photo (either drag to desktop or File > Export > File Export and set +Kind: Current+ ) I get the correct latitude but the longitude is on the other side of the world according to Preview. (My best guess, I'd say about 180° off.) If I export the same photo but set +Kind: JPEG+ the location info in Preview looks fine.
    2) I see similar behavior when I try to export a photo I geotag within iPhoto. If I drag-export or File > Export with +Kind: Current+ (as above), the exported file has no geo info, but if I export with +Kind: JPEG+ it's fine.
I'm trying to geotag photos for a friend and then send the pics back to him, but I don't want to re-compress them. Has anyone else encountered this and come up with a workaround?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

Seems like iPhoto may not be well suited for working on other people's photos since it requires an import/add followed by an export. iPhoto isn't really build for this sort of thing.
Instead you might try something like Graphic Converter. You can browse your folders (no importing necessary) and Geocode photos by using Google Earth to locate the positions. GC will then apply that current Earth location to any selected photos with a menu item. This writes the data directly to the photos so no need to export either and it doesn't effect the photos in any way by re-compressing or otherwise processing the photos themselves.
    Best of luck,
    Patrick

  • The count on "Top Kudoed Authors" seems wildly inaccurate; how does that work?

Not a biggie, but I see on the main page, and on each sub-page, a block called "top kudoed authors".  The counts and top authors vary between pages, but it is always (seemingly) wrong.  Some "top authors" have only 1 Kudos.  Top "kudo" heavyweights appear like Cicopo, but with only a tiny fraction of their actual scores.  What does this mean/ how does this work?

Why do so many people say "fer-tographer"? Do they take "fertographs"?

Hi ScottyP, thanks for posting!   We're sorry for the confusion; we think you might be seeing the "Week" view for kudos.  If you click on the "View All" option right below the leaderboard, you can sort viewable options by several different parameters, including "All Time".  This All Time view should give you a more accurate tally of a user's overall kudos.  We hope this helps!

  • Compass deviation ... wildly inaccurate readings on iPhone 4

Has anyone else noticed this issue?
My house was build with the major walls running true North and South. So I was not surprised to see that my iPhone showed almost exactly true North when I faced that way (354 degrees). However, when I turned the phone around exactly 180 degrees, it reads 235 degrees. So the phone is reporting that it only swung around 119 degrees, not 180. Note that when I am doing this I am not near any object (I'm standing away from the house but sighting down the line of the house and the iPhone body).
In technical terms, it is deviation, which is the difference between what the Compass reads and magnetic North (as opposed to variation, which is the difference between true north and magnetic north). It sounds like the sensor calibration algorithms are not working correctly.

Yep mine is also funny about changing what direction is North, depending on what direction I point the phone body. keeping it in about the same place and just rotating the phone in space, it changes what it thinks is north buy nearly 30° at times.

  • GPS/Satellite issue with running apps

All of a sudden, on several different running apps I use (which use GPS/satellite to track how many miles I run), have become wildly inaccurate.  Maps of my runs show zig zagging all over the route when I really am just going in a relatively straight line.  I've had no problems for 1+ years of using the app in the same areas, so I don't think it's because of the signal, also, other people I am with using the same app don't have the same problem.  It has also occurred on multiple (at least 3) different apps, so it's not just specific to one app.  I don't have problems with it finding my location when I start the app, it's just along the route that it goes bonkers.  I also don't seem to have any location/gps problems with any map-related apps.  This has been driving me nuts and the app developers are no help.  Please help me, I'll try anything!!!

Toggle location service off and on by going settings>privacy>Location services. If that doesn't fix the problem reset network settings or reset all settings.

  • Mail unread message counts inaccurate

I just bought a new computer with Lion installed.  The unread message count in the dock and with the mailboxes in mail is wildely inaccurate.  My older computer is running Snow Lion and its count is completely accurate.  For instance Snow Leopard may say 12 unread messages and Lion will say 1.

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • The Safari browser shows inaccurate results on any calculations page.

    Hi,
I run the website at www.1728.com and it has many calculators. Please visit just one, let's say www.1728.com/trigcalc.htm and give it a try. Do you notice the answers are wildly inaccurate? When Safari was available just for Macs, I'd get the occasional angry E-Mail about my site being inaccurate and I'd tell them - nope - the fault lies in the browser.
Apple has been aware of this for YEARS and I have told them so. Now, it seems that they have moved on to a Windows browser that is equally inaccurate. I test all my calculators with Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla and Opera and they work fine. Now Safari has come along and presented a new problem.
Is there any way Apple is working on this?
If nothing else, this is a warning to any of you who might think of using Safari with any site that has calculators. Basically, don't.

    I put in a webkit bug-report at https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19776
there were some other issues with number.toExponential in apple releases which have now been fixed in nightly webkit builds. Until such fixes reach safari, then yes wolf-meister, you are right; some calculations do give unexpected ( wrong ) results in Safari.
You mentioned many such problems - are they all x 100 errors?

  • White iphone 4 GPS issue

I just bought a white iphone 4, and I have noticed really inaccurate GPS locations - When I whip out my old iphone 3GS it tells me exactly where I am, and my friends with black iphone 4's do the same - anyone else experiencing this?  Anyone know how to solve this issue?

How would the color be an issue? It's white. White is white. Did they accidentally color it yellow or orange or something? That makes no sense. I've seen a few of them on some YouTube videos, and they looked fine to me. Personally, I'm guessing it is just a ploy to make all kinds of money when they finally release em for the holidays. Then all those people will be stuck waiting until iPhone 6! But whatever.
Wow, that's quite the conspiracy theory you have going there. Any U-tube video showing a white iPhone 4 is a fake.

  • Is Location supposed to work on iPADs that don't come with Cellular capabilities?

Using the new iPAD mini 3, without Cellular - I have been unable to get MAPS to show my location.
I get a popup window which says "CANNOT DETERMINE LOCATION"
I very carefully went through every possible settings to allow LOCATION to System Services, Wifi, Messages, MAPS, Restrictions, etc.
I turned it all on, then powered down the iPAD mini 3, then powered it back up. I turned Wifi on.
Nope- not only does MAPS not be able to get my location, but FIND my iPHONE doesn't find it in the iCloud (all settings are correct).
And - Messages : I tried to SEND my LOCATION to another person, it said "locating" ... then the sending bar got about 7/8 full then hung... forever.
I thought LOCATION was supposed to work either from the WIFI or from the Compass ?? (when GPS is absent) Right? Wrong?
Is anyone else having this issue?
Otherwise FIND MY IPHONE will never work for the iPADs without cellular? (I hope I'm wrong.)
I look forward to any of your replies.
    Thank-you.
iOS 8.1, running on iPAD mini 3, 64gb

iPads without cellular get their location information from nearby WiFi networks. So, WiFi has to be turned on. However, that data can be wildly inaccurate. It requires that the WiFi router be properly registered in Apple's database. If you live in, say Florida and are using a WiFi router then move, with that router to Alaska, it will be a while before that router is re-register as being in Alaska.
If there are no nearby WiFi networks, there will be no location information available. Compasses do not give location information. They give orientation and direction.

  • Why does location services not work on my ipad2 with ios7?

Why does my wifi only iPad 2 location serves not work...worked for years, even when I traveled extensively and returned home. I loaded ios7plus and went out West for the holidays.  Worked out West and on return, did not...live in country and worked when I took it to Mickey d's six miles away.  Only change is ios7 and it's default to Apple maps.  Apple support claimed to have passed this to engineering, but despite my follow ups with them using my case number, they have left me in limbo with a silent phone.  This is very wrong and not the apple I have known...very frustrated.

Cause Wi-Fi only iPads do not have GPS receivers in them, nor can they use the cell towers for triangulating position. Best they can do is guesstimate based on the hotspots they are connecting to. They base their guess on a database of known hotspots, which can be incomplete, erroneous or wildly inaccurate. The  rise of the problem can be due to any change you or your ISP has done to the Wi-Fi setup you use.
If you need to depend on critical apps that require reliable Location Services, get Wi-Fi+Cell devices next time. They can be used without a SIM chip with no problems (and not paying for cell charges), but GPS will work fine.
