HTC S620 problems

I've had one of these phones since the basic 'free' offer in 2008(?). I only use the phone for texts/phone (not internet) and only have the basic 50 texts/minutes package (which I never fully use!!) Recently it has started playing up - not charging properly/having to keep doing 'setup'/phone suddenly dying etc etc. As I know little or nothing about these I'd be grateful if someone could answer some of the following:
1. I've got a new charger but that doesn't seem to make much difference
2. Would a new battery work (assuming I can get a new battery for a phone which is presumably now nearly obsolete)
3. I'm not prepared to spend £200 to get a new HTC phone from BT, so can I get a replacement (presumably 'unlocked'(?) pay-as-you-go phone and put my BT sim card in. I wouldn't want a 'smartphone'(?) as I don't use the internet with the phone
Apologies for the basic questions, and any help/advice would be very gratefully received
David

Further to what Keith has said above; to be honest, if you do not use the phone for internet, e-mail or the VOIP facility, you can buy any un-locked to network phone from a supermarket etc and you will still have your basic call/text bundle from BT for £5 a month [while it lasts ]
Whilst the 620 is an old phone now, is still has the functionality of sync'ing  your contacts, photo's and other files with your PC besides the internet/e-mail/VOIP which you dont use.
So if you want a phone to just make calls and texts, you can stay with the 620 and have the above functionality, with a battery costing about £15.00; or you can migrate your SIM card to an un-locked to network cheap talk and text phone.

  • Sync Microsoft Outlook problems with HTC s620

    Hi,
Can anyone help me please? I am a BT employee and use my HTC S620 to sync my emails and calendar from Microsoft Exchange. This has always been useful and convenient. However, in recent days I have been unable to sync these, receiving an error support code of 0x85010001 on active sync.
I don't use my PC to sync these; I just use the active sync button on my handset. Like I say, it has always worked until 2 days ago; syncing regularly throughout the day.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Karl

Further to what Raid says, whether you have or havent got the latest BT software loaded, have you added any other freebies onto the 620 since it last ran ok?
You could always set up a new association between MS Active Sync and the 620.  You might want to uninstall and then re-install active sync on your PC before setting up a new association between PC and device.  Also assuming you havent switched from pop3 to imap, or vice-versa for your e-mail.
I dont have a 620 anymore, but whilst I did, the reinstall active sync and new association worked for me twice, with no apparent reason for it going pear shaped in the first place.

  • HTC S620 used as a modem - unsuccessfully.

The instruction book says I can use the phone as a modem, to give internet access to the asociated PC (a Toshiba Tablet running XP Pro to SP3, in my case).
The book says the phone to PC link can be either Bluetooth or USB cable.
For the Bluetooth, I've paired the phone to the PC, then invoked Internet Sharing on the phone. At this point the phone tells me to set the PC to the Bluetooth PAN. I do that, and both the PC and phone give their status as 'connected'.
However, the PC browser cannot connect to the Internet (AKA get any response from Forums or standard company sites like the BBC). While both pieces are in this connected status I can open up the Browser on the phone and connect to the Internet.
Connecting the phone and PC together via a USB cord, and invoking Internet Sharing, is simpler, apparently successful, but also ineffective as far as accessing the internet from the PC.
I'm wondering if I'm missing some vital step in setting up Internet Sharing.
Has anyone else ever managed to use the HTC S620 as a modem?
I have tried the BT Helpdesk, who suggested the problem was with the phone (reflecting my opinion).
I've asked HTC (0845 890 0079) and they have gone away to investigate, returning after a couple of prompts to suggest I do a cold reset on the phone. This smacks of desperation, with no guarantee of success, and I'm not sure what additional workload this will give me in terms of rebuilding it back to it's current state, applications installed, etc.
I've looked if I can upgrade or update the Windows Mobile 6 operating system.
I see the current is 6.5, but I need to install 6.1 first. After failing to install 6.1 from Microsoft US (with an error message saying invalid lanuage setting) I enquired of HTC, who tell me the S620 phone will not support 6.1.
Cynically, I'm not sure whether to believe them, although it wouldn't be the first time I've met an error message that was inaccurate.
Does anyone else care to comment about running 6.1 or 6.5 on the HTC S620?
As you can see, I've given the problem some attention before asking for help, but that's what I'm asking for now :-)
    Thanks.

    Thankyou both.
I wanted to use the phone as a modem 2 or 3 times a month, and while the facility is 'nice to have' I'm not sure about investing in a newer smartphone.
I think I'd rather spend money on a pure Internet access dongle for the PC, either a plug-in or more likely one that sets up a small WiFi network, like those availble from the Three network.
I just have a suspicion that a dedicated device will give better service. I'll accept poor service if it's free (built into a device I already have) but if I'm going to have to pay then I'd rather get the best (most suitable / cost effective) device I can.
I do have the 10MB per month allowance, most of which is wasted each month, so I do have some headroom for experimenting with the phone. Currently my mobile bill is 00.00 per month as I never go over the limit of the speech or data allowances.
Of course, if I bought such a dongle I'd also be buying another data allowance, so the 10MB / month on the phone would still be wasted.
After making my original post I found a forum that seemed to have lots of posts, over a considerable time, relating to upgrading the S620 to 6.1 or 6.5. Some of them seemed to claim speed benefits through better design (compared to v6.0).
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=45063678
At this point it helps to understand that the S620 is also called the Excalibur.
As MarkV mentioned, I did wonder what I was going to lose by crossing to the wrong side of the tracks. I don't use BT Talk at all, in fact BT have withdrawn the service from me. At least, that's my understanding. It's no loss at all, to me, so I'm not bothered. I'm not really sure what else I'd loose. Probably all those applications shown as BT something, which I've never used anyway!!
I've almost convinced myself to experiment :-)
    Thanks again.

  • How do I unlock my HTC S620 ?

    Morning,
I am off on a few trips to Europe over the next couple of months and want to put a local SIM in my S620 so I can receive free incoming calls etc. Can anybody advise me please on how to get my BT HTC S620 phone unlocked so it will accept a new SIM ?
    Thanks v much.

You can only get the unlock code if your contract has expired. If it has ring customer options 0800 7832 326.

  • HTC Rezound problems

Bought HTC Rezound in May--had intrnet connection for 3 hrs yesterday. Should've kept my BlackBerry. Any ideas?

Lemme guess.....4G icon dissapears and no internet.
Yeah many threads here on the "Verizon Support Forum" and no answers except for the standard: "were sorry for your trouble , try running in safde mode and delete all the apps thats not ours" Or some other copy and paste responce.
I'm a little frustrated to. We need to call in to support since this forum is a dead end. Many Many threads on this as being the major problem with the Rezound in the last 2 months and Verizon says nothing.

  • HTC Imagio Problems (Marketplace, CDMA Mode)

So I have recently changed from a Droid Charge to an HTC Imagio. The change was not ideal, but my Droid Charge was dying slowly and I needed an affordable smartphone.
I like the phone alright. However, every time I try to download new apps, the Marketplace won't open. "There may be a problem with the Marketplace service right now. Check your internet connection and try again later." I have received this message for the past week. I know my internet/data is fine.
I also try to use that handango or whatever for mobile apps... and that always gives me errors.
Final question/complaint... I put my SIM card from my Charge into the Imagio and it tells me that it is not a valid SIM card and to enter a Verizon SIM card. Then it goes into CDMA mode.
How can I get apps? How can I get out of CDMA mode since I am using a Verizon SIM card?
Thanks for all of your help!!!!

The SIM card isn't needed for service on Verizon Wireless. Can you try turning off the phone and removing the SIM card. Then reassemble and boot up to the phone to attempt the activation again.

  • HTC Flyer problems

My Dad has an HTC Flyer. He can video call me on my laptop but can only voice call my mum on her netbook. Also when we try and call him it immediately hangs up and says he is busy when he is not. Is there a known problem that would cause this, or is there something in his settings he should be adjusting?
    Thanks

  • Request to HTC S620 owners - does Windows Update w...

At some convenient time, can you do a Start, Settings, More, More, Windows Update, Check Now.
    Does it work?
Mine is failing with "Connection to update server was not available".
I have dropped the Anyware part of my Broadband and have the phone on a different carrier. Slightly suspicious that the WU path is hard-coded to use a BT address which I am no longer able to access.
Googling the error message suggests I check the Hosts file but there seems to be no such thing on the phone.
But perhaps it never worked in the first place; hence my question.
I also note that after resetting the phone and not adding the BT customisations, I no longer have a virus checker.
    TIA

    V. useful info - thanks Allan. I was thinking in PC mode, so after an o/s reload, Windows Update was my first port of call.
It is misleadingly named! And will certainly be looking at BT servers, which is why I can't connect. Case closed.
Web browsing is pretty much BBC, TFL and National Rail, so not too worried about losing the security.
The only think I vaguely miss if the BT Home screen, which was pretty well designed. But I'm looking at alternatives (HTC Home etc.). Also have set up WM 6 SDK on my Visual Studio so I can write my own apps for the phone (if I ever get that bored).

  • HTC Rezound problem with email account

I just purchased the phone Thursday and it was working very well.  Yesterday, I started getting an error message everytime it checks for yahoo email.  The error message is "Unable to send mail.  The account setting is incorrect".  I am receiving and can send messages, but every 15 minutes it beeps 6 times to inform me of the message - very irritating.  I took it to the Verizon store and no one there knew what to do.  I tried to delete the account but it won't let me.

If you don't mind setting up any other email addresses back into the mail app, you could always try clearing cache and data for the app.  From your homescreen, press menu>settings>applications>manage applications, press the all tab at the top of the screen, scroll down to and press Mail, select clear cache, clear data.  You will loose all data associated with the Mail app (email addresses, passwords, notification settings, etc., your emails will still be available on the associated website), but it will clear out the Yahoo account.
The Rezound has been notoriously bad with Yahoo email, but that will be fixed in a future update.

  • Swap HTC Touch 2 for HTC Hero

Hi, we currently have the HTC Touch 2 on contract with BT (swapped from the HTC S620 in Jan) and we are finding it awful, it is slow, unresponsive and poor battery! Is there any way of having this swapped for a HTC Hero (with the obvious price plan increase).
If this is not an option could we request another HTC Touch 2 to see if the problem is with the individual unit?
    Thanks,

    Hi Maddock,
I'll see what I can get sorted out for you but I should be able to get one of those options you mention in place.
Could you drop me an email with your BT account details and a link back to this thread.  Just sent to [email protected]

  • Broken HTC Incredible and Verizon service update

Here is what has went on. Sorry for the length.
    My first post:
Great phone for the 22 hours it worked.
I got my Incredible May 10th, it died May 11th.
Then it stopped charging, the battery goes dead. Red charge light on, green battery icon on top of screen has little lightening bolt thru it. Green indicator moves back and forth like its charging. Tried removing and reinstalling battery.  Sometimes it charges until red light turns green, then its dead within an hour, with the phone completely shut off, not sleeping but OFF. All while still plugged in.
Tried supplied wall charger, Verizon car charger. All the same.
Tried a new battery they sent me. It acts the same.
Took it to the local Verizon store, they said its broken too.
They ordered me a new one on the 17th.
3 hard resets, 3 sessions with tech suport over as many days. Told I will have a new phone June 9th. 30 days after it broke. Just in time for my 30 evaluation period to end. I can have one extra week they said, my how gracious. I dont have the equippment but the time expires just like if I did. They also made me pay another $212 dollars to order the replacement phone. I it get back 2 weeks after they recieve the broken one in return.
Back to my totally reliable Blackberry tour.
I was told by the last tech guy that thats life. Its not Verizons problem its HTC's problem and I am out of luck as far as extending eval time. Or any considerations at all.
Lets see, its Verizons equippment, but not their problem. I got if from them but its not their problem that its junk.
I'm unlucky and thats my fault, they see no liability in my bad luck.
He also said you should never buy a newly released product because they always have problems.
All 3 also said they have not seen or heard of any problems at all with the Incredible.
I must be the only unlucky person in the whole world.
The **bleep** thing worked for a day, one day.
They also said that if there was a refurb available I would get that as a replacement and not a new one so I am lucky there is not a refurb.
Are you kidding me, a phone breaks in one day and they would replace with a refurb????
I work in customer service, I would be fired if I went anywhere near where Verizon is going. "Were sorry for your bad luck" ,"Dont buy newly released equippment", "Its not our problem" , " You only derserve a refurb phone"  that doesnt cut it.
My phone didnt die, Verizons phone died. Period.
I could understand it if it died 4 weeks after I got it. I could see their point after that long. But the next day, get real Verizon???
Frustrated, disappointed, angered, in utter deblief.
The best network, sure. The best customer service, far from it.
    Their reply:
I would like to apologize for the malfunctioning equipment and the poor customer service that you were provide. I will definitely forward this to the correct correspondence to be reviewed. Our Certified Like New phones are tested and guaranteed like new as if you received them straight from the manufacturer. Brand new phones, maybe 10% of the entire inventory are tested for functionality, so it is possible for a bad one to slip out every once in a while. Since you have already purchased a new one and have to wait for it in the mail, I can see what we can do to have your 30 day guarantee extended longer than a week. May I have you mobile number and full name? Please allow me some time to review the account and get with the necessary contacts to see what I can make happen from my end.
Then after 5 days I had to sent a why didnt I hear anything message.
    Then I get this response:
I do apologize and thank you for your patience. I did have my superiors work with your account, however they have advised because you have already accepted the agreement with customer care, we won't be able to go over their agreement.
    My respone to them:
I didn't accept their agreement! Oh my god!!
They didn't give me what I asked for or help solve my issues.
All I was told is what they couldn't do. As well as wouldn't do.
As well as everything I put in my post.
If you're talking about the month to evaluate the new phone.
They didn't give me a choice. What was I supposed to say "naa I don't want an extra week"?
I asked forcefully for my full period, without being irate.
I was told there was no way anyone was going to do that for me.
How in god's name can you say my evaluation period is up when your equipment failed in 22 hours and you could not supply new equipment to evaluate?
How can Verizon take that stance in good faith????
I know now Verizon does not care about one account.
At least mine, on any level.
I will change my stance if you could tell me one thing.
How is any of this my fault?
    Why am I being penalized?
    Am I wrong here people???

i am only posting this to present another side (of the htc di....NOT verizon....lol). they should give people 30 days from when they get the replacement....not the broken one they got initially. anyway, most of the people that come to forums do so to resolve issues, problems, etc. look at all of the threads. they are people with problems, complaints, or questions. they sold 100,000 incredibles in the first few days it was available. and yes, a handful of them have issues. i'd be willing to bet that 7 months ago the forum was filled with brand new bunk moto droids, and that a couple years ago there were at&t forums that were filled with bad iphones recieved. i'm not excusing it. i'm just saying it's brand new and there will be bugs with brand new devices....and some that are just flat out broke. but it seems that 99,000+ of them are just fine. i've been with verizon for ten years and have had no problems. even got some early upgrades. it's a shame that their service appears to have gone downhill, but it's no better with the other carriers. i've just seen a handful of people here that desire to change carriers....and that's fine. but i also suspect they will come across the same bad service once in a while no matter who you go with. this forum is similar to anything else....when you have a bad experience at a restaurant you want to call the manager....nobody calls the manager or visits the forum to tell you how great their service was that day.

  • HTC Hero Antivirus software

Is there going to be a BT release of antivirus software like there was for the HTC S620?
Has anyone tried free antivirus software on their Hero and if so how would you rate it?

You're unlikely to need it on Android:

  • BT Anywhere Mobile

My BT Anywhere Mobile, a htc S620, has taken to refusing to download emails.  It connects OK with my Hub but generally, when I try to send/receive on my email account I get:
The following errors occurred while sending and receiving mail:
An error occurred while downloading messages.   Be certain that you
have network coverage and that your account information is correct
    and then try again
I have deleted the account and re-entered it and still have the same problem.  The account settings are OK and, very occasionally, it works.
    Has anyone any ideas, please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Once you've done the factory reset, make sure that GPRS is enabled, as the BT server needs to send the set up via GPRS to complete the installation of the BT software.  You might decide to run it without the BT software, it will wok, but with a Windows [only] installation.
[I also have to say, the 620 was a cracking little phone in its day, the models available now with and beyond BT are much faster and superior; BT provide HTC Desire & Wildfire, I'd visit CPWarehouse etc, and have a look and see what is available.  At the end of the 18 months with the 620, many of us felt that the lack of 3g connectivity was a major downfall with the 620, depending of course, with what you want to use it for].
Any problems, post back, or PM me

  • How do you make the most of any "free" services/ca...

I wonder if we can get a consensus of views that could contribute to a sticky on how to get the best value for money from BTBBA (and the other BT services that this is based upon).
I'm constantly confused so please excuse my ignorance:
    Calls:
We have three family members on different mobile numbers, all using the same account. We're on 600 minutes - and this usually does for all of us. I'm on the HTC s620; my wife is on an old vanilla Nokia (don't ask) and my daughter is getting our new HTC Hero ("free") upgrade.
We all try to make calls to other mobiles from our mobiles (to make the best use of the included minutes from the 600 minute monthly allowance).
We also have a BT Broadband Talk account on our land-line, so when at home we tend to make calls to other landlines from our landline in the "free" periods. I assume that BTBBT is cheaper than standard BT Option 1 for land-line calls out of the free period, but I really don't know for sure!
Even in the Broadband Talk free periods we make calls to other mobiles on our own mobiles as we assume that - even if we go over our 600-minute allowance, these inter-mobile calls will still be cheaper from a mobile than via BTBBT. Is that correct?
I often link my s620 to the wi-fi network at home for casual (slow) web browsing, and then find that - on the odd occasion that someone calls us on our Broadband Talk number, my mobile will ring as well! I can live with that!
As a previous BT Fusion user I was used to the idea that I could multiply my free minutes by calling on my mobile through the hub, but that's old hat now. I'm given to understand that the new benefit is that I can make calls via BT Openzone, but I don't know if these cost me or not? And what about BT Fon - if I can find a FON connection and make a call, does that cost, or not?
If we don't use our 600 minutes in any one month I assume that the surplus rolls over. All of them, or is there a roll-over cap? If I roll over 100 minutes after month 1, and then have 150 minutes unused at the end of month 2, how many minutes will be rolled over to month 3?
    Texts:
We have a big family text allowance, although having added some text blocks I'm a bit confused about the total allowance as the bill is so complicated to read. It seems we have 400 free texts included in the 600 minute bundle. To that I've added one or two blocks of texts; there's a bill entry for BT Mobile: 200 texts, and also a bill entry for BT Mobile: 300 Texts as well as an entry for the 400 Free Texts. However I'm only being billed for a BT Mobile: 200 Texts Bundle. Not complaining! Of course this could be because I upgraded part way through a month from 200 to 300 extra - but I'm thoroughly confused!
    Data:
We've been super cautious about data. I switched to my current s620 (unused by my wife who didn't like the form factor) when my s710 started to fall apart. When I tried to activate this phone its software needed to be completely updated (not surprising as it had sat unused in its box for 16 months). A very patient lady from BT remotely connected to my PC to assist in getting the correct software on to the s620. However, she omitted to tell me that the default state would mean that all my emails would be flooding on to the s620 and I'd incur a whopping data bill as we only have the bundled free 10MB of Data. BT Customer Service have since done two credits - spanning two bills - for over £60 + VAT for erroneous data charges resulting from my software upgrade. For that I am very thankful!!
Now that the HTC Hero is about to arrive I've decided to subscribe to the £5 Data charge for an  extra 500MB per month. I s that correct  - total allowance will now be 510MB?
From what I've heard it is not easy to monitor your own account's data use. Is there an App for the Hero? Can I check anywhere from the HTC s620?
What is the best strategy for getting free Data on the Hero? I'm assuming that the following is free - (a) connecting via WiFi on your own BT Home Hub (or someone else's BT Hub with their PIN/permission); (b) connecting via BT FON (c) using one's free monthly allowance on BT Openzone - how much data or time is this, and is it cost-effective to add to this data allowance, compared with overshooting on the BTBBA 500MB allowance?
    Other tips:
As well as providing some responses and/or confirmation for the above, does anyone have some more tips for how to get the best value for money out of BT, with a mix of:
    BT land line
    BT Home Hub 2.0
    BT Broadband Talk account
BT BBA To Go Mobile account
    Voice
    Text
    Broadband (we're on Option 3)
Mobile Data via BT BBA To Go (Also, would a mobile dongle be a worthwhile/cost-eeffective back-up if you were about to go over the 500MB limit? Although I agree with everyone else who would like a larger allowance available than 500MB - especially on a 600 minute bundle being shard by two or three users)
    BT Vision
I pay a lot to BT every month and I still don't regard myself as anywhere near expert enough in how to use/combine the services for the best value for our money.
    HELP Please!!!

    Wow!
I'm not going to be of much use regarding answers but I sure am going to watching this post like a hawk for any replies. My package is a slightly diluted version of this and I do find the BBtalk and data limits hard to make the most of as well.
If nothing else this totally highlights how complicated BT have managed to make their packages.
A cynic would assume that they are trying to catch us out at every step and for us to either be overspending or not really getting the moneys worth.

I'm interested, of course, in any tips to solve this serieus bug / issue / problem.
(my best guess is that Nokia tries to help their customers with the Access point app, but fails to do so).
Please, if any of you experience the same problem please respond to this post so we can get an idea about how big of a problem this is.

    Hi,
I had the same problem. But I let it go after weeks of corresponding with Mobistar.
Yesterday I went to a Mobistar shop, the guy tried lots of thing I already tried (different apn's, ...).
Then he told me the it's a problem with business clients. They have to use the apn web.pro.be, where internet sharing doesn't work (he doesn't know why).
But, that if I call to Mobistar and ask to activate apn mworld.be on my telephone number, it should work.
Today I called Mobistar Business (you can find the helpdesk number on your invoices), asked to activate mworld.be to have internet sharing access on a windows phone.
Half an hour later, using mworld.be as apn i have internet access, and I can share my internet connection.
    regards,
    Stijn
