HTC Sense Is The Real Deal

Could HTC Sense be the killer feature that keeps me coming back to HTC? I think so.
Android Experience
Incredible has been my primary device for the past month. But over the past year I've used a moto Droid with the stock Android UI, as well as currently owning an at&t Samsung Captivate. I.e.. I'm well versed on the Android experience.
Hardware
The Incredible hardware is nice enough with high build quality (volume and sleep buttons have a quality feel to them, the phone doesn't feel fragile etc.; but... the back cover material is flimsy, although I like the leather feel of it). The screen is not quite as nice as Galaxy S but it's very good and a standout feature.
HTC Sense
The HTC Sense UI is nice enough to keep me looking forward to my next HTC phone vs. say adopting something else because of maybe one killer feature (the screen on Samsungs).
So long as HTC hardware meets my expectations regarding material and build quality, it's the Sense UI that will likely keep me as a customer. It's the real deal. Looking forward to an Evo type phone from HTC on Verizon.

it's coming this winter. there was a thread with a link about a month ago. it basically sound JUST LIKE the evo, but for verizon.

I have been working on a project on final cut pro trial, just purchased the real deal, but cannot find a way of importing the project

    You don't import the project.
I'm going to assume that both the trial version and purchased version were 10.1.
Open FCPX and then Open Library>Other, Navigate to wherever you stored the library (ies) you worked on when you used the trial. Choose that library and your work should be in one or more events in it.

  • 3D Graphics Cards for Video Editing (what's the real deal?)

    Hi
I've known for some time that 3D graphic cards offers no REAL significant improvements to VIDEO EDITING and RENDERING.
I also know that for real video editing, one needs the likes of Quadro cards, not 3D Gaming Cards like GEforce/Radeon.. and that the SOFTWARE being used needs to have support for using GPU for rendering such as CUDA technology
I tried to update myself and read around a bit... w/ the advancements of software today, 3D gaming cards now offer more improvements for video editing should software use 3D effects, transitions, or similar.. but still not that much really
Q1: am i on top of things so far?
And recently i found out that Adobe Premier CS4 (and other vid ed software) now takes advantage of GPU power.. (really?)
Q2: HOW MUCH advantage though? like a lot like equally as useful as CPU power?? or a bit of gpu power to help cpu?
Q3: So, would it be practical to spend $$$$ on a highend GeForce Card like GTX295 to improve video editing/rendering performance? or would it be rather more useful to spend that on higher CPU or overall PC specs?
Would really like to hear your thoughts on these.
    Thanks

In terms of impact on performance, you can rate the various components from most important to least important:
    1. CPU
    2. RAM
    3. Disk setup
    9. Video card.
Even a mildly priced card like an ATI HD 48xx is not taxed to its full capacity on a very fast system, even on a 3.8 GHz overclocked Nehalem the CPU is the bottleneck, not the GPU.

  • Apogee Symphony Users... 1.6 ms of latency? Hype, or the real deal?

Was wondering if any Apogee Symphony users could give me their impressions on using it, and Apogee converters with Logic.
The claim is there is 1.6 milliseconds of latency monitoring through Logic.
I'm about to pick up an Intel Mac (finally), and am seriously considering adding a symphony card and Rosetta 800 (to use in tandem with my Lavry converters) in order to get this kind of performance from my system.
Does this really work as advertised? 1.6 ms throughput latency would change everything for me personally. No more using latency-free software outside of Logic... that's REALLY tempting to me.
    Thoughts?

    1) FWIW, the Apogee's latency specs are good, but there are audio interfaces that (per their published specs) exhibit less latency at 44.1/48 than the Apogee at 96. These include MOTU, RME, and Lynx, to name three.
Good timing on your post IS. I was wondering this myself since starting this thread.
Here's the deal... I currently use a Lynx AES-16 PCI card to connect to 4 I/O's of Lavry 4496 converters. I also use an RME Fireface 800 (as an aggregate device in Logic) to have access to it's 8 D/A's, so I can create headphone mixes.
The lowest I can set my buffer in Logic with this set up is 128. Latency is tolerable, but noticeable. For most musicians, it isn't an issue, but a few feel the "disconnect", and over time this has started to really bother me. It's far from "ideal".
So a few months back, I decided I would use RME's total mix cue software, and monitor through the RME when tracking. I use my Lavry A/D's (with a SPDIF converter box) into the SPDIF input of the RME Fireface. This allows me to get the benefits of my Lavry "sound" on input, while monitoring entirely from the RME, thus allowing me to use it's latency free software.
I am now completely hooked on NO latency for tracking. I can't go back, you know? But this set-up is far from ideal, as there is some tricky routing going on to pull this all off, and I would REALLY love to be able to monitor through Logic completely, eliminating the need for latency free software.
So... I started looking at options a few months back, and the whole Apogee thing came to my attention. At the time, I was simply going to get a Lynx AES-16 PCIe card, for the new Intel Mac but Lynx hadn't finished developing the PCIe card yet.
But since I started gathering info, the Lynx AES-16 PCIe card has become available, and I started wondering... if I bought that, and then, maybe got 4 more channels of Lavry D/A's, to have enough outputs for my cue system... if I could get record with my audio buffer in Logic at 64, or even 32, surely the latency would be negligible... to the point where it sounded non-existent, even if technically it was still there.
So is anyone running buffers that low in Logic, getting non-noticeable latency, AND not getting clicks and pops in the audio as a result of such a low buffer setting?

  • Reliable messaging and ALSB, the real deal

Has anybody had any success with the following scenario?
'X' communicate with ALSB that provides a proxy service that uses the WS transport
    where X is:
    Apache CXF,
    Apache Axis 2,
    .NET WCF 3.5 or similar
I can get to the point where the different frameworks communicate "reliable" messages (like createsequence message) and the WLS server is 10-4 about the RM related messages and the business message, but it seems like even though WLS is happy, the ALSB proxy service does not receive the business message. When I write buiness message I mean a typical helloworld message that ALSB reports or logs. If I use a proxy to log the communicated SOAP messages or SvcConfigViewer (for .NET clients) I can see the expected messages but ALSB does not report/log/whatever, so it seems like the proxy service never gets the message. I have tried to change the log level and similar, but no luck...
So, have you had any luck with ALSB + WS + X where X is not the local ALSB server? I would like to hear from you then. Any example projects or just a hint or two, so I can get this to work.

Well the whole temp issue is something that is and always will be
a hot topic in forums. (check the sentence and worduse LOL)
    This is my oppinion:
If you're worried about temps...don't overclock further then 15%
If you're worried about temps...keep your system in a cool place
If you're worried about temps...keep the airflow in the case going
If you're worried about temps...use standard issue software and drivers
If you're worried about temps...keep it simple
    In other words:
things in the case are designed for a certain performance.
If you try to mod the hardware to go faster, don't bitch about temps.
Just stick to the standardissue. Want to ga faster, spend more money!
People often come into my store and complain about performance,
temps etc... when I open the case, nothing in there is orginal. Often
just bought without considering another PSU, or more Memory, extra fans,
and then they start overclocking... well I dont have to explain what the
    outcome is.

  • How to get HTC sense?

I heard that the incredible can get HTC sense. So I signed up with an account on the computer and got to the end where it says to go to setup, than sign in when you get to htc sense, but I went through the whole setup thing again and saw nothing about htc sense. Is my model not compatible? I looked in settings and my model is ADR6300. If anyone has any answers for me they'd be very much appreciated. Thank you!

There are two things from HTC called HTC Sense. The first one is the user interface (UI) on all of HTC's devices. The Droid Incredible came HTC Sense 1.0 or something like that.
The second is the website above. Only certain and newer phones can get access to the features included with the website. This includes a option for a remote wipe should you lose your phone. One of the phones that I think are compatible with the website is the HTC Sensation from T-Mobile. The UI running on that phone is HTC Sense 3.0.

  • Gingerbread update -- What's the big deal?

Having found Froyo to be a very useful update, I was curious what to expect for Gingerbread, so I looked up the Top 10 (according to one ZDNET blogger) Features of Gingerbread:  http://www.zdnet.com/blog/burnette/top-10-features-in-android-23-gingerbread/2143
They're broken down between top 5 user features and top 5 developer features.  Below are the top 5 user feature [with my comments].  I'm just curious why folks are in such a lather over Gingerbread -- what am I missing out on?
New on-screen keyboard. The standard keyboard has been greatly improved in Android 2.3, with faster input and more intuitive typing. Even cut-and-paste got a makeover. [IMHO the HTC Sense KB on TB is very good -- perhaps this feature is needed on other Android phones]
Streamlined user interface. New color schemes and various UI changes and polish make Android more consistent and simpler to use. [Yawn].
Application and power management. Android 2.3 provides better insight into what is running in the background, how much memory and CPU time it is using, and even lets you kill misbehaving apps. Yes, after months of telling us we don’t need a task killer, they give us a task killer. Enjoy your chuckle, iPhone fans. [I'm pretty happy with the Apps manager in 2.2, but I don't run tons of Apps].
SIP Internet calling. Voice over IP is integrated directly into Android 2.3. Unfortunately you’ll have to get a SIP account from a third party, and the ability might be curtailed on some carriers. [I can see this as very useful for some TB owners -- but really, how many of you use VOIP?]
Download management. All your downloads from your browser, email, and other apps, can now be viewed and controlled from one place. [Thus far, I haven't had any issues with download mgmt.  I use the "OI File Manager" app, but perhaps the few apps I use which download stuff happen to be in the "well behaved" category -- e.g. let me know where they're downloading?"]

it's not that big of a deal to me (or i would've got it by now). it's not nearly as critcal as froyo was (flash, etc). what bothers me though, is that it can and has been done. and now verizon is capable of pushing it to other devices.....older ones and newer ones....so why not us? i'm not going to throw fits or gripe about it, but since you brought it up, my opinion is that they plastered ads all over the place when they launched this device....and then just sort of gave up on it (took forever for anyone to offer cases for extended batteries, a BAD update, i'm still not sure if they ever got the dock that they had advertised and then pulled from their site??? etc, etc). i'm happy with my tbolt and have been fine with froyo, but GB is being pushed to other devices so there's really no reason we shouldn't have it soon.

  • HTC Sense and wallpaper app has been removed from Main menu, How do you restore?

I seem to have fat fingered the main menu, dragging, of all things the HTC Sense and Wallpaper from the main menu.  In fact,  having said that, I can no longer scroll through the menu screens that once existed.   I can get them to appear as "shadows" on the main menu, but that's it.   I have navigated to settings / applications / manage applications but have not succeeded in finding a way to reactivate the Sense and Wallpaper apps, or at least to make them reappear from where ever I dragged them to.  Before I bury myself, thought  I'd better look for help. Needless to say,  I'm new to this device and have managed to out strip my skill level in less than 2 weeks!

Not sure if this will work (or even how that happened) but you could try disabling sense, then turning it back on.  I think you can do this by pressing menu>settings>applications>manage applications, select the all tab at the top of your screen, scroll down to and select HTC Sense, then select clear defaults.  Then press your home button, a menu should pop up asking what action you would like to take, choose Home (or whatever the other option is besides Sense) but do not select use as default.  At this point you may want to reboot your phone then, when it comes back on, if it does not ask you again, press home button and select Sense.  If you can confirm this works, the next time you choose Sense, you can select it as default.  Kind of a shot in the dark, hope this helps.
Also, you may want to clear data on Sense (same place as clear defaults).  This will force you to set your homescreens and any settings or profiles you have created through Sense, but that would be my next guess.
Oh, and if you are using a task killer, disable it.  Just throwing out ideas here.  Again, hope something here helps.

  • Showing the real timecode on keyword collection clips

When I create clips in a Keyword collection is there any way to have them show the correct timecode when in a list view? Under the media start column the timecode appears to be the starting timecode of the main clip the keyworded clips are from.
In fact once I have made a keyword collection with a lot of clips (in this case it is long interviews with keyword clips for different parts) I can't figure out any way to sort those clips in the keyword collection. They seem to be there randomly. Like sorting by timecode would put them in order but since the start column is all the same it won't sort them.
Seems a simple thing so I must be overlooking something.

Say I have a hour long clip that has start timecode of 02:10:10:10
I make lots of keyword selctions called Good Bite. When I got to that keyword collection and go to a list view and look at the Media Start column every one of those clips in that keyword collection show a start time of 02:10:10:10
Though they clearly aren't really that start time as many of them all come later out of that same clip. I can see the REAL timecode in the timecode viewer at the bottom. Since the media start doesn't show the right timecode there is not way to sort by that timecode or even use that as a refrence.
This seems like a HUGE oversight as seeing timecode is important. The timecode is there the column just doesn't show it, it shows the timecode of the first frame of the clip the keyword subclip came from. These seems very wrong.
Does that make sense? This seems like such a simple thing.

  • Can't connect to Facebook for HTC Sense

So I stopped receiving updates for my contacts from facebook on my Droid Incredible (no updated profile pics, no status updates from linked contacts, etc.). Logging into facebook worked just fine from the facebook app.  In my attempt to logout and log back in I think I ended up doing a remove account. Whoops.(I know just enough to be dangerous).  Now I can't readd the Facebook for HTC Sense account.  How do I get it back?
I tried to create the account with the email and password that I normally use. I get a text message saying that my facebook account was accessed by an HTC Sense device and then the Sign In never finishes...it just hangs.

    Hi there,
did anyone ever give you the answer.  The same thing happened to me yesterday.
    thanks!

  • Why was Facebook for HTC Sense re-enabled in 4.4.3 update, and why can it no longer be disabled in app manger?

Many of us who disabled Facebook for HTC Sense in 4.4.2 have been unpleasantly surprised to find the 4.4.3 update has re-enabled that app/service, and unlike with 4.4.2  the box to disable it (in app manager -> all) is now greyed out, and unselectable.
Why was this this app forced upon us? (Yes, we can temporarily force stop it, but that doesn't last long as it can re-enable itself - even before the phone is restarted or rebooted).
If Verizon doesn't want upset m8 customers it should put out an update to the 4.4.3 update that allows us to permanently disable Facebook for HTC Sense once again.

I completely agree.  I have ZERO interest in using Facebook and that was the first app I disabled when I bought my phone.  I am very disappointed to hear that Facebook is being forced back on us with the new 4.4.3 update.  I am not comfortable with rooting yet, or I would do that so I could uninstall this and every other piece of Verizon bloatware that I do not want.  It is my phone, right??  I distinctly remember using my money to pay for it!   I also don't have a lot of confidence that the instructions on rooting are completely up to date to account for any issues or speed bumps, especially for first-timers like myself.
Interesting also how Verizon's release notes don't mention this "helpful feature."

  • Facebook for HTC Sense

Some of my friends aren't showing up on the Facebook for HTC Sense list so I can't link them to my google contacts.  It looks like most of them show up but some (including my wife) don't show up.  Any ideas?

Here's my issue:  Facebook Friends=n ; Facebook for HTC Sense Friends=n-1
I'm missing one contact and can't figure out how to get it to show up.

  • Facebook for Android/Facebook for HTC Sense

i can't use Facebook for Android, as the FB for HTC Sense keeps overriding it.  is there a way to disable the FB for HTC Sense to use the FB for Android app?

Try Stopping the Facebook for HTC Sense Application in the background.
    Option 1:
    1. Select Menu > Settings > Applications.
    2. If the application is not  listed, press Menuand select Filter > All.
    3. Select the app.
    4. Tap Force Stop.
Stock applications on the device can not be removed.
    To remove applications:
Go to: Menu - Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - (Choose the Application) App - Uninstall.

  • Facebook for HTC sense sync error

For the past month the Facebook for HTC sense sync has been telling me "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." But it has not fixed itself and will not sync with any of my contacts. I've tried removing it and adding it back on and it still will not work. Is there anyway to fix this?

It's an HTC problem I've noticed it also. No fix other than HTC fixing on their end. You could try to log out, then back in? I just ignore it.
